instructions
Hi. In following directions for starting new current events pages, as I understand them, the idea is to first "move" the current events for the past month to a new page and then remove the resulting redirect from the "old" page to start the "new" page. The idea being that any talk about that month's current events would be retained with its page. In the most recent case, June 2006 in Southeast Asia, I was coming across a double set of redirects. I've removed the redirects in hopes that was the right thing do to. -

Current Events Move
If you all so desire, you can move
Current events in Southeast Asia under the new
current events portal (note that the
Current events page is gone). Adopting the portal's layout is optional (although it would be nice if you did to some degree). Alternatively, you can just leave the page where it is (I don't think all of the current events pages will be moving into portal-space).

I don't understand how the portals work. Looks like more maintenance, more hassle. Other than conformity and uniformity, what are the advantages of the portal layout? I want to hear more from other contributors on this, because I can't do this by myself.

Er...actually I almost completed the makeover before seeing this talk page. Was intending to come here to announce the change. :D Anyway how do you guys think of the new layout? There is still a "Highlights" section awaiting editing thou.--

Portal Changes
I've made several changes to the portal page to make it more in line with
Portal:Current events, in terms of maintenance. I also asked
Lightdarkness to update
LDBot to automatically create the date subpages (like with
Portal:Current events). However, I'm trying to figure out where that whitespace at the top of the portal pages are. I just can't find it. -- tariqabjotu 15:22, 23 August 2006 (UTC)reply
Kudos for the extensive help rendered! Still wondering how to get that portal box to appear correctly thou...(the one at the top of
Portal:Southeast_Asia/News_Sidebar. Copied the codes wholesale from the Oceanian portal. ;) Anyway the whitespace refers to that band above the highlights section or something?--

Highlights
I propose that Highlights be changed to "In the news" and leave the month out of it. The archive pages could say Highlights in ... But right now the events under the heading Highlights in September actually happened in August, and this problem is going to happen every month. It won't be until we're well into a month that we actually start to see some highlights. -

I would now propose that the name of this section be changed to "Headlines" to match the main current events page. -

Outdated
As I noticed, the page is too outdated. Hey, we're in the forth of November and the page is one week behind!. Anyone, save this uber late-ness
