Removals

techietech.tech (removal)

This was done by an ex-employee in order to get this domain blocked by Wikipedia admins and cause damage to the small business. The disgruntled employee was terminated for their actions. The local authorities have also been notified of this. So, they will be proceeding as per the local law. Meanwhile, we request you to remove this domain from the blacklist. The official team stopped posting on Wikipedia after a warning by MrOllie to NeerajBhateja. After that, the account made only relevant changes with reliable sources. You can refer to the contributions of the user as well for confirmation. We apologize for all the trouble that was caused due to the spam from external actions to the organization. Hope you’ll consider this request. Thank you for your time.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.208.70.101 ( talkcontribs)

@ 103.208.70.101: no Declined (though maybe better:  On hold). This situation was resolved yesterday by blocking the domain, suggesting that the spamming was ongoing as late as yesterday. I can understand that this is a Joe job, but the function of the spam blacklist is to protect the encyclopedia, and there is no reason to expect that the spamming has stopped (and if it did not, it will give more disruption). Unless you can show that this domain is actually needed on Wikipedia to support material, and that that is needed now I suggest that we let the situation cool down. -- Dirk Beetstra T C 05:41, 1 July 2021 (UTC) reply
@ Beetstra: Thank you for understanding and putting this on hold. We appreciate it. Yes, you are right that these are measures to protect the encyclopedia. We totally respect that. We also agree that it is better to let things cool down. Let us wait for a few weeks. Once the matter has been resolved with the local authorities, we will reach out. Once again we sincerely apologize for all the trouble. Thank you for the help and keep up the great work running Wikipedia.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.208.70.101 ( talkcontribs)
I don't believe that this was a joe job. First of all, your explanation doesn't make any sense; first you say it was perpetrated by a "disgruntled ex-employee," then go on to say that "they were terminated for their actions." So which is it? They were terminated, then they did the joe job, or they decided to do a "joe job" while they were an active employee, then were terminated for that? All while adding the link from some of the same ranges as the other additions? This was just blacklisted yesterday, and yet you immediately noticed that it was blacklisted? I strongly object to the removal of this link from the blacklist, given the extensiveness of the spam campaign as outlined above and given that I am 100% confident that for any of the "product updates" this site covers there will always be superior alternative references. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:32, 1 July 2021 (UTC) reply
I understand your concern and I know what this looks like. This particular employee was let go because of over-spamming sites like Reddit, Quora etc. Spamming our link on Wikipedia isn't his first attempt to damage our small business. He has got our domain and accounts banned on many subreddits, Quora, Facebook groups, etc. and by many Blackhat SEO techniques. Therefore, he was terminated for his actions. We were notified of this blacklisting as JaabaTheButt (the account used by that employee) account's email access is with us. We've already notified the local authorities and they are looking into this and we request you to please let this cool down. The citing from our official account stopped after MrOllie explained that our domain did not fit in the reliable sources category. Hence, we contributed to Wikipedia by citing reliable sources only. You can check the contributions history of NeerajBhateja as well. Once again, we apologize for all the trouble. Hope you'll understand. 103.208.70.101 ( talk) 07:00, 2 July 2021 (UTC) reply
Links to your site are of zero use to Wikipedia, and as such, there's no reason to remove it from the blacklist. OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:24, 3 July 2021 (UTC) reply
As mentioned earlier, the local authorities are dealing with this. As for our credibility as a reliable news source. Our small team has covered issues in the consumer technology market which the big news sources skip. We also covered a story where a leading smartphone manufacturer was producing and selling flagship products but were using inferior parts for the South Asian market while charging more for the same product. This later helped improve consumer awareness in the South Asian as well as global market. Our articles get mentions from leading local news authorities as well. It's on its way to becoming a reliable source. Since our domain was spammed recently on Wikipedia so we request you to put our request on hold for a few weeks until the matter is solved by the local authorities. Or you can put it in the Revertlist so it does not cause any trouble. Once again, we apologize for all the trouble Dirk Beetstra User:Ohnoitsjamie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.195.201.24 ( talk) 18:48, 5 July 2021 (UTC) reply
You and I both know that there are no "local authorities" anywhere in the world who care about something like link spamming, so that argument is going nowhere. Also take note of the prominent yellow box at the top of this section: Requests from site owners or anyone with a conflict of interest will be declined. Otherwise, follow these steps to post a properly-formatted request:. I'm sure you'll find another way to promote your site. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:18, 5 July 2021 (UTC) reply
This is not about spamming. It is about endangering the small business and jobs of other employees. Local policies about small businesses are very supportive here. The local authorities are already in the process of dealing with this. Yes, I read the yellow box. I understand the conflict of interest. But this was an external affair. As I said earlier, we're not here to promote the website. We just want to cover issues that the big websites tend to overlook and this is really necessary for consumers. So, therefore, we request you to put this on hold for a few months. You may even move us to the Revertlist for monitoring. Once again, apologies for any trouble. 182.69.136.78 ( talk) 12:50, 7 July 2021 (UTC) reply
Having a site on the spam blacklist is not 'endangering the small business and jobs of other employees'. Anyone who uses the spam blacklist for ranking of businesses, defining which companies are spam or similar will get completely skewed results. The spam blacklist is for controlling abuse, not for getting a dedicated list of spam websites. There are very respectable websites on this list which have nothing to do with spam in any form.
'We just want to cover issues that the big websites tend to overlook and this is really necessary for consumers.' - that is not your call, that is a call that experienced/independent Wikipedia editors will make and they will request the removal of the site. I am all for monitoring and for an experiment to see if the problem stopped, but you have, by your own admission, no control over the results. I agreed to put this on hold because I did not judge the website itself. However, that question will come if/when we revisit this issue. (just like you were, obviously, monitoring what happened with your website on Wikipedia, your Joe jobber can as well - and do we want to take the risk that by removing this website they will return again?). -- Dirk Beetstra T C 13:21, 7 July 2021 (UTC) reply
Thanks for making this clear. We will just wait until the local authorities settle the matter and will reach out after a considerable amount of time for monitoring. Once again thank you for the explanation and apologies for all the trouble. Stay safe. 182.69.136.78 ( talk) 03:37, 8 July 2021 (UTC) reply
Do you honestly expect us to believe that "local authorities" care about someone spamming Wikipedia? OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:35, 8 July 2021 (UTC) reply
As mentioned earlier, the business has been hurt by being banned due to spamming on different platforms and websites. The domain has lost its traffic and users. The small business is losing out opportunities which in a way endangers the job of many people. This was because of someone who did not want to follow the rules and the others are suffering because of it. Therefore, the authorities do care about such matters especially when it comes to employment. Do not worry we don't intend to post anything until we fulfill your requirements as a credible source. I hope this helped. 182.69.136.78 ( talk) 04:48, 11 July 2021 (UTC) reply
If a business model depends on Wikipedia traffic, it wasn't a very good business model to begin with. THere are plenty of other platforms and venues for promoting your site; Wikipedia isn't one of them. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:09, 11 July 2021 (UTC) reply
Well, Wikipedia is an opportunity to share credible stories and guides which the big news outlets skip especially in the South Asian region. Brands have been following unethical policies to cover up cheaper manufacturing practices and our aim is to test those products and ensure the consumers do not exploited because of such things (which is something that we have done with credible evidence in the past). We have shared all the facts with you. The final call is yours. As mentioned, we will only reach out once we qualify as a credible source according to Wikipedia guidelines. Thank you for all your help and information. Once again, apologies for all the trouble. Stay safe. 171.48.48.15 ( talk) 12:26, 17 July 2021 (UTC) reply

Proposal to remove Opinion Nigeria url from blacklist

The link opinionnigeria.com: Linksearch en (insource) - meta - de - fr - simple - wikt:en - wikt:frMER-C X-wikigs • Reports: Links on en - COIBot - COIBot-Local • Discussions: tracked - advanced - RSN • COIBot- Link, Local, & XWiki Reports - Wikipedia: en - fr - de • Google: searchmeta • Domain: domaintoolsAboutUs.com is blacklisted and the reason given was that it spammed the platform. I have cross-checked this link on several platforms including Google, Bing, Alexa and saw that it has good authority. I also have seen that the link has regular posts with quite a lot of authors including internationally renowned authors, contributing to the platform. This is why I believe that the spam issue has been resolved. I also noticed that they use certain web tools to look for and prevent further spam or spamming. I need the link to be able to provide more information on the article I am writing on Wikipedia. This article has been rejected twices and I have reached out to professional editors on Wikipedia who advised me on what to do. Please, do review this link and see if it can be removed from the blacklist.

I will be happy to answer more question on this if need be.

Thank you for the consideration.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Suleiman.bako1982 ( talkcontribs)

Not done Per the 2018 blacklisting entry for this, it was spammed abusively. It's possible that a specific whitelisting request would be considered, but that's unlikely as the site doesn't meet our reliable sources guidelines in any case. (Your whitelisting petition was autoarchived likely because it wasn't formatted properly and no one noticed it). OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:56, 9 July 2021 (UTC) reply

@ 0mtwb9gd5wx: they may not exist. We would like to be able to link to lyrics, but only if that is allowed. Lyrics are copyrighted by their composer and only the older ones are in the public domain. As we cannot link to works that are hosted in violation of copyright (copyvio), and many artists do not host their own lyrics, it results in the situation that we simply cannot link to many lyrics. That is unfortunate, but not something that we can change. Dirk Beetstra T C 08:03, 12 July 2021 (UTC) reply

Here's a few more, but it's not a lot - I'd support such an addition, but would we need consensus somewhere to do so? Pahunkat ( talk) 12:46, 16 July 2021 (UTC) reply
Well, consensus was reached for .guru in a conversation similar to this one, in MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist/archives/October 2015#*.guru but it was a difficult regex to create so the initial entry was removed and corrected soon afterward. If we blacklist .game then the regex should be similar to what we're now using for .guru.
Most of the links seem to be relevant to the subject article but some aren't. There are a few links to "news" pages that don't seem reliable. I'm not seeing any real abuse going on here except for the one that started this conversation.
