Instructions for admins
Any admin unfamiliar with this page should probably
read this first, thanks. If in doubt, please leave a request and a spam-knowledgeable admin will follow-up.
Have links been placed after warnings/blocks? Have other methods of control been exhausted? Would referring this to our anti-spam bot,
XLinkBot be a more appropriate step? Is there a
WikiProject Spam report? If so, a permanent link would be helpful.
Please ensure all links have been removed from articles and discussion pages before blacklisting. (They do not have to be removed from user or user talk pages).
Make the entry at the bottom of the list (before the last line). Please do not do this unless you are familiar with
regex — the disruption that can be caused is substantial.
Close the request entry on here using either {{
done}} or {{
not done}} as appropriate. The request should be left open for a week maybe as there will often be further related sites or an appeal in that time.
Log the entry. Warning:if you do not log any entry you make on the blacklist, it may well be removed if someone appeals and no valid reasons can be found. To log the entry, you will need this number - 1215918325 after you have closed the request. See
here for more info on logging.

{{Link summary|example.com}}-- do not use "subst:" with this template
Do not include the "http[s]://www." portion of an
URL inside this template, nor anything behind the domain name. Including this template will give tools to investigate the domain, and will result in COIBot refreshing the link-report. ('

{{

regex filters beyond basic domain URLs
{{
BLRequestLink}} - to suggest specific links to be blacklisted
Please provide diffs ( e.g. [[Special:Diff/99999999]] ) to show that there has been spamming! Completed requests should be marked with {{

indicator, and then
archived.

Spamming of a junk scraper site by an IPv6 user in the
Special:Contributions/2a02:3038:2e0::/49 range, but there's a few useful edits interspersed. They've been spamming for a couple of weeks now, I think it's time for it to be stopped. Ravensfire (

Use this section to request that a URL be unlisted. Please add new entries to the bottom of this section.
Requests from site owners or anyone with a
conflict of interest will be declined. Otherwise, follow these steps to post a properly-formatted request:
Familiarize yourself with the reasons why a site was blacklisted. Look at
MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist/log to see who blacklisted the link and when, and the reason given for blacklisting.
At the beginning of your request, include the domain in a {{
link summary}} template (remove the http:// and www from the domain). This provides tools to find more information on the domain. For example, *{{
Link summary|example.com}} results in:
When previewing your post with an included {{
link summary}}, you will find links to a COIBot-report ('
COIBot'), linksearches on en ('Linksearch
en'), and tracked discussions ('
tracked' and '
advanced'). If the log did not provide sufficient information on why a link was blacklisted, these links often yield more information.
Explain how the link can be useful on Wikipedia.
Explain your reasoning why the blacklisting is not necessary anymore.
Note that the bar for blacklisting is whether a site was spammed to Wikipedia, or otherwise abused, not whether the content of the site is 'spammy' or unreliable. Please indicate why you expect that that abuse has stopped.
Providing this information often helps in a faster handling of the request.
Once you have added your request, please check back here from time to time to get the outcome or to answer any additional questions. We will not email you or otherwise notify you about your request, and if no answer is received to a question, the request will be considered abandoned.
Administrators: Completed requests should be marked with {{
done}}, {{
not done}}, or another appropriate
indicator, then
archived.
ValuePenguin.com
1 The web address of the site you would like removed from the list (omit the http and www parts) Valuepenguin.com
2 The reason(s) why links to the site should be allowed and would benefit Wikipedia Valuepenguin.com is a reputable domain, attested by McAfee SiteAdvisor as a finance/banking domain with minimal risk.
This is how Wikipedia will benefit from allowing Valuepenguin.com :
• Reputable Content: Links to reputable external sources (such as valuepenguin.com can serve as references to support the information presented in Wikipedia articles. This helps ensure the accuracy and reliability of the content by allowing readers to verify the information and check the sources themselves.
• Enhanced User Experience: Including relevant external links can enhance the overall user experience by providing readers with access to site content, such as videos, images, etc. that may not be available within the Wikipedia article itself.
3 The article or articles on which the links would be used Since it’s a trusted domain, the link can be used on multiple wiki pages, including -
/info/en/?search=LendingTree.
4 If you are connected to the site, then please declare this at this point. Failure to do so will, if discovered, be treated negatively. Yes, I am a LendingTree employee reporting this issue as observed. — Preceding

What's wrong with google's shortened urls, such as maps.app.goo.gl/7YoyWUH9621pfBoX7 ? It's generated automatically by Google Maps and there is no obvious way of getting the full url.
Alaexis¿question? 08:14, 26 March 2024 (UTC)reply
You still can get the fully expanded url in the address bar, i.e.
[1] though?
– robertsky (
talk) 09:07, 26 March 2024 (UTC)reply
The full url doesn't work for me, it doesn't open the PoI page.
Alaexis¿question? 12:22, 26 March 2024 (UTC)reply
Try
[2] for the full url, that seems to get the POI to pull up for me. Ravensfire (
talk) 15:39, 26 March 2024 (UTC)reply
It works, thanks! How can I do it myself next time?
Alaexis¿question? 12:41, 27 March 2024 (UTC)reply
I just put the shortened urn in my browser and it automatically opened using the full url. Maybe that doesn't happen in some situations, but it's been consistent for me across three browsers on my desktop. Ravensfire (
talk) 14:39, 27 March 2024 (UTC)reply
Oh, somehow I didn't think of it. Thanks again!
Alaexis¿question? 14:53, 27 March 2024 (UTC)reply
Not done For the purpose of
this discussion, you were already able to include a link to the restaurant's map listing by omitting the http. There's no use compelling case for shortened map links (or any URL shorteners) in Wikipedia mainspace. OhNoitsJamieTalk 13:20, 26 March 2024 (UTC)reply
Is there a compelling case *for* having them banned? I'm pretty sure that "maps.app.goo.gl" urls can only be generated by Google Maps.
Alaexis¿question? 13:25, 26 March 2024 (UTC)reply
There is no valid use for them in mainspace, and I'm not interested in discussing the issue further. OhNoitsJamieTalk 11:59, 27 March 2024 (UTC)reply
The full url "maps.google.com" is used a lot in the mainspace, the shortened one would be used for the same purposes. I'm not sure I understand your approach, if there is no reason to ban such urls and if it's possible to remove it from the blacklist, why can't it be done?
Alaexis¿question? 12:44, 27 March 2024 (UTC)reply
I've clarified that I'm only requesting to remove "maps.app.goo.gl".

While running IABot on a page I was hit with a message that it could not submit the edit(s) due to the domain everyculture.com being blacklisted which I have confirmed. It appears this domain is used in 217 articles on Wikipedia.1 How do I find out why the domain is blocked and how do I remedy this?1

talk) 16:52, 17 March 2024 (UTC)reply
This was added to the local blacklist five years ago as part of
this request back in 2019. I see a higher count of extant links to this site:
512 in both article and draft space. There's a also an old Wikipedia mirror on that domain - I'll clean up the refs to that. For the rest you can 1) debate the wholesale addition to the blacklist, 2) evaluate the links and whitelist them individually, or 3) remove the links per the logic of the original blacklisting.
