WWE is an American professional wrestling promotion based in Stamford, Connecticut, and the world's largest promotion. As in other professional wrestling promotions, WWE promotes several championships, with titleholders typically determined via the results of professional wrestling matches within scripted storylines. On rare occasions, a championship may be awarded to or stripped from a wrestler outside of a match, though these occurrences also fall within scripted storylines. [a]
WWE currently divides its roster between three brands. Most wrestlers compete exclusively on a single brand (with select exemptions). WWE's two primary brands are Raw and SmackDown, collectively referred to as the main roster. NXT serves as the developmental brand (although it was considered a third main brand from 2019 to 2021). [1]
There are currently 15 championships in WWE divided among the three brands, with two upcoming championships. Raw has a primary, secondary, and tag team championship for male wrestlers, and a singles championship for female wrestlers. SmackDown has two primary championships (jointly held and defended as an undisputed championship), a secondary championship, and a tag team championship for male wrestlers, and a singles championship for female wrestlers. NXT features a primary, secondary, specialty, and tag team championship for male wrestlers, and a primary championship for female wrestlers. There is only one tag team championship for women, shared by all three brands. The upcoming championships are a specialty championship for male wrestlers from all three brands, and a secondary championship for female wrestlers on NXT.
As of April 24, 2024, among the three current brands, 18 wrestlers officially hold championships (including one double champion), with inaugural champions to be crowned for the specialty male title and NXT's secondary female championship. This list includes the number of times the wrestler has held the title, the date and location of the win, and a description of title victory.
The American professional wrestling promotion WWE currently divides its roster into what the company refers to as brands. The two main brands that the company promotes are Raw and SmackDown, collectively referred to as the main roster. Wrestlers assigned to the two main brands exclusively compete on the respective weekly television programs, Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown, albeit with some exceptions. The Raw brand also has a supplementary online streaming program called Main Event. Monthly pay-per-view and livestreaming events feature wrestlers from both brands.
NXT is WWE's developmental brand, which is where newer WWE wrestlers perform to potentially be promoted to the main roster. Wrestlers assigned to NXT exclusively compete on the weekly television program, NXT, albeit with some exceptions, as well as the brand's supplementary online streaming program called Level Up. NXT also has its own major livestreaming events held periodically throughout the year.
There is also a weekly online program called Speed that streams exclusively on X and features male wrestlers from all three brands.
For the men's division, Raw features a primary, secondary, and tag team championship, while SmackDown features two jointly held and defended primary titles (promoted as an undisputed championship) along with a secondary and tag team title. There is also an upcoming specialty championship available to wrestlers from both brands as well as NXT.
For the women's division, each brand has a primary championship. There is also a tag team championship shared between both brands as well as NXT.
At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for male wrestlers are the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on SmackDown—regarded as world heavyweight championships. The World Heavyweight Championship is held by first-time champion Damian Priest. He defeated Drew McIntyre in his Money in the Bank cash-in match at WrestleMania XL Night 2 on April 7, 2024, right after McIntyre had defeated Seth "Freakin" Rollins for the title. [2] The Undisputed WWE Universal Championship is held by Cody Rhodes and consists of the WWE Championship and the WWE Universal Championship, with Rhodes being in his first reign with each title as they are jointly defended but retain their individual lineages. He won the Undisputed title by defeating Roman Reigns in a Bloodline Rules match at WrestleMania XL Night 2 on April 7, 2024. [3] [4]
Secondary titles for male wrestlers include the Intercontinental Championship on Raw and the United States Championship on SmackDown. The Intercontinental Championship is held by Sami Zayn, who is in his fourth reign. He defeated Gunther at WrestleMania XL Night 1 on April 6, 2024. [5] The United States Championship is held by Logan Paul, who is in his first reign. He defeated previous champion Rey Mysterio at Crown Jewel on November 4, 2023. [6]
Tag team titles for male wrestlers include the World Tag Team Championship on Raw and the WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown—regarded as world tag team championships. The World Tag Team Championship is held by Awesome Truth ( The Miz and R-Truth), who are in their first reign as a team, while individually, it is the second for Truth and fifth for Miz. [7] The WWE Tag Team Championship is held by first-time champions A-Town Down Under ( Austin Theory and Grayson Waller). [8] Previous holders of both titles, The Judgment Day ( Finn Bálor and Damian Priest), had held and defended the titles together as the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. During WrestleMania XL Night 1 on April 6, 2024, The Judgment Day defended the Undisputed title in a Six-Pack Tag Team Ladder match against Awesome Truth, A-Town Down Under, #DIY ( Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa), The New Day ( Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods), and New Catch Republic ( Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate). Both sets of titles had to be retrieved for the match to end, with A-Town Down Under retrieving the SmackDown championship followed by Awesome Truth retrieving the Raw championship. [9] On April 15, the Raw title was renamed as World Tag Team Championship, [10] and then on April 19, the SmackDown title was renamed as WWE Tag Team Championship. [11]
A specialty title—the WWE Speed Championship—was announced on March 27, 2024, and will be available to male wrestlers from all three brands. This title has a special stipulation where matches have a three-minute time limit and stream exclusively on WWE's online show Speed. The inaugural champion will be determined from an eight-man tournament. [12]
At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for female wrestlers are the Women's World Championship on Raw and the WWE Women's Championship on SmackDown—regarded as women's world championships. The Women's World Championship is held by five-time champion Becky Lynch, who won the vacant title by last eliminating Liv Morgan in a 14-woman battle royal on Raw on April 22, 2024. Previous champion Rhea Ripley had to relinquish the title due to injury. [13] The WWE Women's Championship is held by two-time champion Bayley, who defeated Iyo Sky at WrestleMania XL Night 2 on April 7, 2024. [14]
The women's tag team championship is the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, which is shared between Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. It is held by The Kabuki Warriors ( Asuka and Kairi Sane) from SmackDown, who are in their record-tying second reign as a team, while individually, it is the second reign for Sane and record fourth reign for Asuka. They defeated Katana Chance and Kayden Carter on the January 26, 2024, episode of SmackDown. [15]
For the men's division, NXT features a primary, secondary, specialty, and tag team championship. There is also an upcoming second specialty championship which will be shared with Raw and SmackDown (listed above).
The women's division has a primary championship and a tag team championship, the latter of which is shared with Raw and SmackDown (listed above). There is also an upcoming secondary title.
