Summary

Description This is a pretty little non-native (weed) legume that grows well in disturbed and waste areas. It is native to Asia & Africa and was introduced into Florida intentionally. I. hirsuta is a good nitrogen fixer and has been used medicinally for several ailments including cerebral disorders, diarrhea and yaws (a tropical infection). Extracts exhibit antibacterial properties. This is one of the Indigofera plants that has been use to make indigo dye. It has also been used as green manure, grown and then plowed under to improve the poor soil. While photographing this, I found another Indigofera species I'll post tomorrow.
