El Escudo fue establecido por Decreto de la Soberana Junta Gubernativa del Imperio, fechado el 7 de Enero de 1822 y establece que "las Armas del Imperio para todas las clases de sellos sean solamente el nopal nacido de una peña que sale de la laguna, y sobre él parada en el pie izquierdo un águila con corona imperial".

Adding that it is common to see this type of Coats like the Kingdom of Italy, the Empire of Brazil and others.
