The 189 One Member LLC ( Vietnamese: Công ty TNHH Một thành viên 189), trading as the 189 Shipbuilding Company ( Vietnamese: Công ty đóng tàu 189), also operating under its military designation Z189 Shipyard or Z189 Factory ( Vietnamese: Nhà máy Z189), is a state-owned shipyard in Vietnam, operated by the Ministry of Defense. The shipyard was established in 1989 in Hải An District, Haiphong. [2]
Prior to January 1989, Z189 was known as the Xưởng 10B (10B Engineering Company), and was part of the 3rd Military Region. [2] [3]

Vietnam's state-owned Z189 shipyard has begun assembly work on the first submarine rescue vessel for the People's Army of Vietnam Navy (PAVN). A keel-laying ceremony for the ship, known as MSSARS 9316 (multipurpose submarine search-and-rescue ship 9316), was held on 24 May at Z189's facilities in the northern coastal city of Haiphong, said the shipyard in a statement.
The important project will be undertaken by Z189, a shipyard company under the Việt Nam Ministry of National Defence, who has gained international reputation after it built ships with similar functions for the Royal Australian Navy in a joint venture with the Dutch defence group Damen.
The Z189 factory, under the General Department of National Defence Industry yesterday launched the Truong Sa (Spratly) ship HQ-571 in Hai Phong City in the presence of General Pham Van Tra, former Defence Minister and Lieutenant-General Tran Quang Khue, Deputy-Chief-of-General-Staff of the Vietnamese People's Army.
The Vietnam Marine Police Department and Z189 Factory, under the General Department of National Defense Industry, yesterday launched a modern multifunctional large-tonnage police ship "DN 2000", with number sign "CSB 8001", in Hai Phong City.
