A well overdue page

This page was redirected to the image MOS but it of far better use as an overview of image project pages. There was objection to the change on my talk page so I started a discussion at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(miscellaneous)/Archive_39#Creating_a_Wikipedia:Images_page. Some of the links should really have some actual prose wrapped around them. -- Alan Liefting ( talk - contribs) 01:07, 23 September 2012 (UTC) reply

NOT overdue at all. I disagree with the existence of this page for several reasons. It is improper intercession between discussion and the directly relevant MOS page. The discussion of this page's creation was not broadly advertised: it should have a legitimate WP:RFC, with time for discussion. But at a minimum, the above link to the improper discussion, as if this were miscellany, should be corrected, so now it is. -- Lexein ( talk) 13:14, 7 October 2012 (UTC) reply
While I believe there should be a page of this type you can always revert my edits and/or do a retrospective RfC. -- Alan Liefting ( talk - contribs) 10:12, 14 October 2012 (UTC) reply

New project proposal

Please review the new project proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Wikipedia editor business card project. The hope is that this project will help Wikipedians gain press credentials and make it easier to get higher quality image files for free use.-- Paul McDonald ( talk) 13:43, 29 May 2013 (UTC) reply

Purging an image cache

I've been working out getting some image names harmonized, and I've run into an image that had to be moved from a file name, with another file being moved to that old name. On Commons, the images work exactly as they should, with the new image showing, but en.wiki still has the old (moved) image at that file name. Anybody know how to purge the image cache so it works right? I tried the thumbnail purge ( http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/thumb.php), but it wouldn't work on the default image size. The image is File:Editorrib18.png, and any help would be appreciated. Van Isaac WS cont 04:05, 6 June 2014 (UTC) reply

OK?

Are we allowed to post an image of a photo of a map? As here: File:Old map of Harbour Park Mall in Nanaimo.jpg ? Epeefleche ( talk) 02:40, 21 June 2014 (UTC) reply

Embedding images

Hi, but I don't know how to embed an image on Wikipedia rather than reaching from MediaWiki. Can you help me how to use an embedded image on Wikipedia include them on users' and article pages. -- Allen talk 22:07, 28 August 2014 (UTC) reply

You're already part-way there. It's on the main page of this talk page, specifically at Wikipedia:Images#Tutorials and help. -- Redrose64 ( talk) 23:21, 28 August 2014 (UTC) reply

How to get a legal-to-use image of a company's logo?

I've been looking into how brands are handled on WP. Some info is at WP:trademarks but also there are just a lot of unwritten customs that you can see if you look at articles of various brands of different sorts. As it pertains to images, some manage to have logos on the page (ex. Lipton). But wouldn't a logo be protected by trademark? Certainly I would imagine that one couldn't just scan the image and upload it to Wikimedia Commons as a free-use image. But perhaps a photo could be taken of the logo in action.... for instance a pic of a Chevron sign, a photo of the Green Giant statue, or a photo of a tin of Lipton tea? I'm trying to figure out how to legally add images for brands that currently have unillustrated articles. Thanks for any guidance that others can offer. -- Karinpower ( talk) 06:02, 7 November 2014 (UTC) reply

You should read WP:FAIRUSE and WP:LOGOS as they cover the majority of what you are asking about. Mfield ( Oi!) 06:05, 7 November 2014 (UTC) reply
Thank you! Somehow an hour of searching didn't bring me there yet, and so you've definitely helped illuminate my path. WP:LOGOS in particular totally answers my question. -- Karinpower ( talk) 06:10, 7 November 2014 (UTC) reply

Maybe this work?

Maybe this? Note i put <nowiki> HTML tag to prevent reference-style link.

The <img /> tag is not whitelisted, you cannot use it. To include an image in a Wikipedia page, it must first be uploaded to either Commons: or to Wikipedia. Then use the image syntax described at Wikipedia:Picture tutorial. -- Redrose64 ( talk) 21:30, 6 June 2016 (UTC) reply

Template double image

For side by side images we really want to have the height of the images to match, but the parameters only adjust the width. Is there a way to do it without adjusting them manually until the heights match? -- Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) ( talk) 17:00, 18 October 2016 (UTC) reply

Well, {{ double image}} is a wrapper for {{ multiple image}} - your example could also be written
{{multiple image
|image1=Wilbur Wright child.jpg |width1=150px |alt1=Orville
|image2=Young Orville Wright.jpg |width2=150px |alt2=Wilbur
|footer=Wilbur (left) and Orville (right) as children in 1876 |footer_align=center
}}
and its documentation describes how to do exactly what you ask for. But I'm puzzled by your example, which uses two images which are already of the same aspect ratio. -- Redrose64 ( talk) 19:08, 18 October 2016 (UTC) reply

Text within images

If I were to replace text in images with the English of foreign words, would that violate any of the possible copyrights protecting said images? Or would the images be good, because they were acceptable for use in Wikipedia in the first place? I know it might be a stupid question. I have a few images in history articles in mind that are in French and can easily be translated (lit. "la mer" to "sea" in some cases). Psychotic Spartan 123 20:06, 16 January 2017 (UTC) reply

It just kills me that our history articles often rely on maps written in foreign languages. Psychotic Spartan 123 20:09, 16 January 2017 (UTC) reply
The original image would remain, but I would make an English duplicate of it. Psychotic Spartan 123 22:36, 16 January 2017 (UTC) reply

Policy for self-made images

The section "Making your images" seems to be gone, yet it is referenced by the summary article WP:Image dos and don'ts. Can someone put it back please? Making your own image and uploading it to Wikipedia is directly going against WP:No original research. I need some clarification. Sociable Song ( talk) 16:40, 18 January 2020 (UTC) reply

We want people to take their own pictures. ...not upload copyrighted images. What are you trying to ask? Pls see Wikipedia:Image use policy#User-created images.....and WP:OI.-- Moxy 🍁 16:57, 18 January 2020 (UTC) reply
