JCW-row searching

I'm looking at {{ JCW-row}}; and assume this is the best place for discussion.

The search links are created by this markup:

<small class="nowrap">[//en.wikipedia.org/?title=Special:Search&search={{{search}}}&fulltext=Search Wikipedia ([//en.wikipedia.org/?title=Special:Search&search={{{search}}}+journal&fulltext=Search J·[//en.wikipedia.org/?title=Special:Search&search={{{search}}}+magazine&fulltext=Search M·[//en.wikipedia.org/?title=Special:Search&search=The+{{{search}}}&fulltext=Search T)</small><br>
<small class="nowrap">[http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=%22{{{search}}}%22+-wikipedia Google ([http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=%22{{{search}}}%22+journal+-wikipedia J·[http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=%22{{{search}}}%22+magazine+-wikipedia M·[http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=%22The+{{{search}}}%22+-wikipedia T)

The Google searches put the search string in quotes (%22), but the Wikipedia searches do not. I propose that we should always do so; to avoid issues like this, where the search string is The Municipal Journal and the results are less than helpful. @ Pigsonthewing: done. Headbomb { t · c · p · b} 19:02, 25 June 2022 (UTC) reply

Misspellings

Here are a few more misspellings that I've fixed in significant numbers recently and may recur:

Some less academic sources were widely cited with typos. Would a sister WikiProject be interested? Similarly, they're fixed as of a recent date but may be of future interest:

...and a few relevant publishers

Hope that helps, Certes ( talk) 14:07, 1 September 2022 (UTC) reply

@ Certes: as far as the compilation goes, you only need to make sure the redirect is tagged with {{ R from typo}} or {{ R from incorrect name}} or similar. Headbomb { t · c · p · b} 15:41, 1 September 2022 (UTC) reply
Same for {{ R from miscaps}} and {{ R to diacritics}} which get their own pages. Headbomb { t · c · p · b} 15:49, 1 September 2022 (UTC) reply

Cite Q

Question: When a citation is embedded in the Cite Q template, does it still get counted in the "Journals cited by Wikipedia" totals displayed on these pages? Thanks in advance, Esculenta ( talk) 13:31, 11 October 2022 (UTC) reply

It doesn't, no. Headbomb { t · c · p · b} 13:48, 11 October 2022 (UTC) reply

Google links

seem to be missing particle "search?" in the URL, e.g.:

I'll investigate. Headbomb { t · c · p · b} 06:14, 1 August 2023 (UTC) reply
@ Fgnievinski: should be fixed now. Good catch. Headbomb { t · c · p · b} 06:21, 1 August 2023 (UTC) reply

Here's a piece about the history of JCW I wrote for the Signpost. Headbomb { t · c · p · b} 06:14, 1 August 2023 (UTC) reply

That's a very interesting read. GobsPint ( talk) 02:48, 23 April 2024 (UTC) reply

The State Journal disambiguation

Hello @ Headbomb: I hope you are well 🙂 If you have a minute, could you fix the target on Wikipedia:WikiProject Academic Journals/Journals cited by Wikipedia/S58 from "The State Journal," which is now a disambiguation link, to The State Journal (West Virginia), which is what the article cited is referring to? I don't know how to fix this myself. Cheers! Johnson 524 16:09, 3 January 2024 (UTC) reply

This is a bot-compiled list of whatever's in |journal=. What's important is that The State Journal dab mentions The State Journal (West Virginia), and that the article points to the correct journal. Both do. Headbomb { t · c · p · b} 19:50, 3 January 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Headbomb: Just making sure it's not a mistake, cheers! (Oh, and btw, that signpost article you linked above was a really interesting read, thanks for sharing it 🙂) Johnson 524 21:57, 3 January 2024 (UTC) reply
