Welcome to the first Bugle edition of 2019!

The regular article news section includes an unusually diverse range of new A-class articles, with the topics covered ranging from the first Moon landing to medieval warfare. The book reviews section features an assessment of a biography of Nazi Germany's armaments minister by Nick-D, as well as the usual round up of recent external reviews.

TomStar81's World War I timeline makes a welcome return this month, reminding us that some of the key events of World War I occurred after the main hostilities ended. Factotem has also provided an op-ed which discusses some common problems with the contents of infoboxes.

In other news, Parsecboy, Sturmvogel 66 and White Shadows had a 22-article Good Topic promoted last month, Ironclad warships of Austria-Hungary. Well done!

End of year awards

The 2018 Military Historian of the Year awards concluded last month. First place and the Golden Wiki went to Gog the Mild, followed by Sturmvogel 66 and Kges1901 in second place for the Silver Wiki, and AustralianRupert, Ian Rose and Nick-D shared third for the Bronze Wiki. Runners-up were Hawkeye7, Indy beetle, Cplakidas, Factotem, GELongstreet, TomStar81, Zawed, Dumelow, MilHistBot, Adamdaley and Djmaschek, who all received the WikiProject Barnstar. Well done to all who were nominated, and thanks for all your military history work in 2018!

The 2018 Military History Newcomer of the Year awards were run concurrently, and Gog the Mild was awarded a second Golden Wiki for coming first. This is the first year in which one editor has come first in both the Military Historian of the Year and Military History Newcomer of the Year awards. Well done, Gog! Catrìona (now User:buidhe), Chetsford, 47thPennVols, Eddie891 and L293D all received the WikiProject Barnstar. Great to see newer editors making their mark in the project. We look forward to your contributions in 2019!
