  • I'm still not sure about the font size. It looks kid of small on my screen but so far it is readable. You will need more colors since there are plans for a level 3 truma center and maybe even a few level 4 ones. The first two colors are kind of pleasing to the eye and seem to work well together, soft, different and they don't glare at you. Vegaswikian 20:48, 16 August 2005 (UTC) reply

Looks like BreakFastClubb went and added a (new?) LV Strip template to all the Strip articles. I started to remove one or two before I said to myself, let's doublecheck on this -- *is* there a Strip template that I didn't know about? SpikeJones 23:07, 17 September 2005 (UTC) reply

Tasklist box

I'm currently working on one for anyone that wants to place such a thing on their own page (Such as many projects have). Currently I have the following items in mind for it:

Infobox cleanup

  • Can someone cleanup Template:Infobox Casino? I had a hard time converting this from in line to a template with all of the changes I wanted so I left it there since it is functional. Since the inline code is being used all over the place, the sooner it is a template the easier it will be to roll out changes. I could not get it to work with the logic to only display a heading when there was data to display. The size also needs some work. Vegaswikian 17:24, 16 August 2005 (UTC) reply
  • The project page suggests a Template:LV Resort be used. Based on a smaller discussion the Template:Infobox Casino was created a while ago, first in line and now trying to convert to an infobox template format. Maybe its time to discuss how this information needs to be used? There are lodging places, entertainment places, and attractions. Some have only one of these, others have all of them and more. Should they be one infobox? Multiple infoboxes? Should some common elements be in the infobox and the extra information kept in the article or in an infobox across the bottom of the article like a navigatino template?   • Looking at the media templates (radio/tv): there are multiple pointers included on the TV template to the same stations for "VHF" and "Digital". Why reference them that way when simply saying KVBC (NBC) or KLAS (CBS) would be cleaner? Heck, with Digital/Satellite/Cable/etc, it's probably best not to list anything as VHF/UHF anymore, nor should specific channel numbers for tuning be given in the template. Your thoughts?     • Listing them as UHF and VHF seems to be the standard in these nav templates. I added Digital on the Las Vegas one since that will be the future standard. There is some discussion about what the channel assignments will be going forward, so keeping any extra data is not a big problem since it is not likely to change all that often. Other nav templates list by both call sign and channel assignment. The channel numbers are useful in some ways for those of us with attennas. Vegaswikian 20:25, 22 August 2005 (UTC) reply
    • Just because it "seems to be standard" doesn't mean it makes sense. Me, I find it confusing to see 2 (or more) references to the exact same station on different bands (VHF/Digital/etc). Check out Template:AtlantaTV to see a different way to handle it.
  • What should the "Date Opened" be in the infobox? It opened as IP in 1979, but it was opened under a previous name earlier. We ought to be consistent across the board... using Bally's as an example: is it (a) the date that it opened as Bally's, (b) as the MGM Grand, (c) or as the rumored-to-be-coming-renaming-to-whatever-if-or-when-Harrahs-makes-it-happen? Aladdin/Aladdin II/Planet Hollywood will be a similar situation, I'm sure. SpikeJones 23:24, 23 August 2005 (UTC) reply

Template common look and feel

This does not need to be decided on right now, but it would be nice to collect ideas here about what we should be using to unify the look and feel of the Las Vegas templates. I know this was done for the nav templates. Is that acceptable for everyone? Should we document what that standard is for the look and feel? Casino infobox

The heading for several entries like Restaurants includes the word notable yet it seems that several editors are listing all restaurants. This comment also applies to the other notable entries. Should we start removing the entries that are not notable? Do we have a way to determine notability for these types of entries? Vegaswikian 19:06, 23 August 2005 (UTC) reply

  • When I originally created the Infobox, I used the term "notable" on purpose to avoid listing every restaurant. Let's assume coffee shops and buffets are automatically not to be listed... except in rare cases where the facility is *known* for it. People flock to the Rio, for example, specifically for the Carnival World and Seafood buffets. Westward Ho doesn't have a notable restaurant, but they're known for their $0.99 2 lb hot dog (or whatever it is) at the snack bar. When people think of Caesars, do they say "Let's go eat at the buffet" or do they say "Let's eat at Mesa Grill?". When people think of Bally's, I pray that they don't think of the Bally's Buffet as a place to eat (Harrah's can't shut that place down fast enough, in my opinion), but Bally's is known for their Sterling Brunch. In many ways it is a judgement call, but there's no need to list every La Salsa that exists. But listing Spago is significant as it was the first "major, celebrity-driven" restaurant in Vegas and started the big-chef restaurant trend. So let's identify things that make it notable:
    • Celebrity chef? YES
    • People flock to facility specifically for restaurant? YES
    • 5-star rating? YES
    • Chain restaurant (ex: Gardunos, PF Changs)? NO
    • Requires reservations and usually has long wait times or difficult to get into? MAYBE, depends on restaurant and location.
    • Unique Touristy Feature? MAYBE. Aureole - yes. Viale - maybe not.

Good, as a start. Celebrity chefs are likely more of a no by default. When the name chef is not there, quality may also not be there. Also, so many of these chefs have so many different restaurants that it is not possible for them to be really involved. It is better to not list a notable restaurant then to list those that are not noteable. Vegaswikian 20:47, 30 August 2005 (UTC) reply
