WikiProject Good Articles: Open Tasks
This project identifies, organizes and improves good articles on Wikipedia.

The Uncategorized Good articles elimination drives, as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force, aims to keep the lists at Category:Uncategorized good articles and Category:Good articles without an oldid empty. The drive ends on March 31, 2009 23:59 UTC or both categories mentioned above are empty, whichever comes first. User:OhanaUnited will hand out the awards when the individual decides that he/she completes the tasks.

Awards

To receive an award, please include your name and the number of GA talk pages you have cleaned up as part of this drive. This drive is running on an honesty system, hence, you do not need to provide the list of those talk pages that you helped as long as you have completed the amounts that you stated.

This is the scheme for the awards:

  • 10 for WikiMedal for Janitorial Services
  • 20 for The Tireless Contributor Barnstar

Note that only the highest award will be given out to each participant based on their reviews. A person who completed 30 cleanups will only receive Tireless Contributor Barnstar, not both it and the WikiMedal for Janitorial Services.

Records

Here is the place where you acknowledge the amount of GA talk pages you helped cleaning up. You do not need to complete 10 or 20 cleanups in one go. Use {{ done}} when you decide that you are finished and wished to receive the award. The following is the example of the formatting that you should use:

  1. Shoy ( talk · contribs) (23) shoy ( reactions) 19:34, 18 March 2009 (UTC) reply
  2. mahanga ( talk · contribs) (~30) Mahanga Talk 19:28, 19 March 2009 (UTC) reply
  3. Quadell ( talk · contribs), 45.  Done
  4. J04n ( talk · contribs) (20)  Done J04n ( talk) 23:52, 20 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Instructions

  • Categorize those articles listed at Category:Uncategorized good articles or Category:Good articles without an oldid.
  • Select any article within the list.
  • Check against WP:GA to see if the article remains to be GA. At the same time, look for which category the article listed under. The keyboard shortcut key for the "find feature" is : Alt+F (for Windows users) and ⌘ Cmd+F (for Mac OS users)
  • In the article's talk page, look for {{ GA}} or {{ ArticleHistory}}
    • The oldid field should be only numeric characters; some older GA entries may have included "nnnnnn" (a default value in the GA documentation) or a date-like entry and both of these cases should be changed to the correct oldid.
To find the oldid, look over the talk page to establish what date the article was promoted. Then check the article history for the last edit of that date. There are tools that can help you find the appropriate oldid.
    • If the article uses the GA tempate {{ GA}}:
An example of what the template should look like once you've filled everything in is {{GA|date|oldid=123456|topic=Arts}}.
    • If the article uses the ArticleHistory template {{ ArticleHistory}}:
If the ArticleHistory template lacks a "GAN" (Good Article Nomination) entry within its fields, these should be added. The format of these are:
action1= - Value should be "GAN"
action1date= - The date (YYYY-MM-DD) when the article was made a GA
action1link= - If possible, a link to the talk page or archive when the page was promoted
action1result= - "Listed", assuming that the article has been put on the GA list
action1oldid= - The oldid, same as with the GA template oldid.
topic= - The category under which the articles is listed on the GA list.
If there already exist other "actions", use the next highest number to represent this; e.g. if there are 2 existing actions but no GAN, use "action3=" and so forth.

Note: If you find any discrepancies during this process and feel an article may have been promoted without meeting the criteria, nominate the article at Good article reassessment.
