The result of the discussion was delete. plicit 12:10, 3 January 2022 (UTC) reply

There is a lot of information in this article about the public response to Thunberg but there is no mention of "memes" about her on this encyclopedia. This may be a misleading redirect. I'm sure there are other words that better capture the response in art, politics and social media. Liz Read! Talk! 17:12, 19 December 2021 (UTC) reply

Hero (Dragon Quest)

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. As the discussion revealed that the character is actually named Hero, and this fact was added to the target. Jay (talk) 04:20, 4 January 2022 (UTC) reply

Delete. The redirect is in Category:Super Smash Bros. fighters but not in Template:Super Smash Bros. which suggests a lack of notability. There are no incoming links. The target page describes the player-protagonist as a hero character, but this does not indicate any need or use for a redirect. – Fayenatic London 15:06, 27 December 2021 (UTC) reply

  • Keep, it gets a decent amount of views each month (around 20 to 30) (as seen here [1]), also redirects are cheap and, due to Super Smash Bros., it is a valid search term. (Oinkers42) ( talk) 01:29, 28 December 2021 (UTC) reply
  • Delete There is a "hero" in most works of fiction, so having it as a disambiguated redirect is unnecessary and useless. ZXCVBNM ( TALK) 17:33, 28 December 2021 (UTC) reply
    • Comment "Hero" is the default character name for the protagonist character, and is used as such in the adapted fiction based on this videogame property -- 65.92.246.142 ( talk) 19:44, 28 December 2021 (UTC) reply
Yes, but it's clear that it stands for the noun, hero. Being a generic hero that can be found in nearly any work of fantasy, it would be WP:PANDORA to give a Hero (Insert franchise here) to any fiction that contains a hero. This is distinct from a character like Hiro Protagonist, where characters literally remark on his name. ZXCVBNM ( TALK) 21:39, 28 December 2021 (UTC) reply
You misunderstand me. The character's name is literally "Hero" in the adapted fiction from the videogame franchise. The character class is the character's name, when it comes to some of the comics etc based on the videogame. Indeed, Japanese manga and light novels using a generic D&D setting many times have the protagonist character literally named "Hero", and other characters refer to the protagonist as "Hero" (proper noun subject), they lack any other name, this being their only personal name. Definitely a lack of imagination there. -- 65.92.246.142 ( talk) 02:36, 29 December 2021 (UTC) reply
Okay, if that is really the case then Keep as it is indeed the name of the main character and has a reason to be there. ZXCVBNM ( TALK) 07:05, 29 December 2021 (UTC) reply
Keep. Sorry, but I find it ludicrous that this redirect entry is even brought up for deletion. We could certainly discuss the appropriate retarget: whether it should be redirected to the main Dragon Quest page to refer to the player character as a literal "Hero" trope the series keep leaning on since its inception, or if it should be retargeted for the "Characters of Super Smash Bros" page to refer to a specific incarnation of that player character. But per the arguments by Oinkers and IP editor, it is a recognizable feature of two very notable franchises. Haleth ( talk) 03:31, 30 December 2021 (UTC) reply
Glad someone found it laughable, but none of the above was clear from the article. I have now inserted a mention of this in the lead section of Dragon Quest. – Fayenatic London 22:20, 30 December 2021 (UTC) reply

Unclear association with current target (previously targeted the now-redirect Wikipedia:No offensive usernames), excluding shortcut lists this has been used exactly once to refer to this page in 2003. I think it's safe to say no one is using this anymore. Elli ( talk | contribs) 18:42, 12 December 2021 (UTC) reply

  • Weak keep. It's getting page views, over 100 last year, even if it isn't used in internal links. Unless you are proposing to repurpose it for some other page there is no benefit to deletion and it might inconvenience some people. Thryduulf ( talk) 22:35, 12 December 2021 (UTC) reply

Inappropriate cross-namespace redirect. the target page doesn't even have a list of wikiprojects. ( t · c) buidhe 02:35, 20 December 2021 (UTC) reply

  • Keep per WP:CRN Keep reason 4 Otherwise the newbie users for whom these redirects are useful would be left up the creek. In most cases, users who type such names in the search box expect to be taken to its other-namespace target. New users can't be expected to know to add "WP:" to their search. This seems to be an appropriate CNR for people trying to get involved with wikiprojects since the target has been corrected by Royal Autumn Crest. snood1205( Say Hi! • Keep as retargetted. While I am very much a believer in retaining cross-namespace redirects (I believe Snoon1205 intended to link there, ( WP:CNR), rather than the closure requests noticeboard) that aid very new users finding the project-space pages they are clearly looking for, the question is whether a list of wikiprojects is something someone who has not yet learned about namespaces would be looking for? Thinking back to the before times when I was involved in training such new users, Wikiprojects are things that sometimes came up in discussion so it is quite likely to be searched for, and while I did always mention namespaces it is not realistic to expect everyone to remember everything perfectly. This redirect was created in 2003, as it previously held an article created in 2002 that is now at Alcatraz Island. The prison article was only created in 2012, and it appears that nobody has discussed this redirect since then or ever. I believe the term "Alcatraz" predominantly refers to the prison to the general public, not the island or another entity. I suggest moving the redirect target from Alcatraz Island to Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. ɱ (talk) 02:27, 20 December 2021 (UTC) reply

  • Keep as is. The prison is the most famous part, sure, but when people tour "Alcatraz", they get the whole history of the island. Think the broader topic is the safer redirect here. SnowFire ( talk) 13:32, 27 December 2021 (UTC) reply
  • Keep it as is per SnowFire. The hatnote at the top should suffice for people looking for the prison. Regards, SONIC 678 15:25, 27 December 2021 (UTC) reply
  • Keep as is. Retargeting long-standing redirects like this usually create a slew of problems that need fixing and there is no obvious major benefit to a change. Spinning Spark 16:22, 27 December 2021 (UTC) reply
  • Disambiguate if the prison is the most famous, and the one that is likely, then it should not target the island. -- 65.92.246.142 ( talk) 05:37, 28 December 2021 (UTC) reply
  • Keep. Disambiguating would mean making it an extra click to get to any article, while keeping and retargeting mean only making it an extra click for people looking for the other thing. I concur with previous commenters that in a case like this it makes sense to target the broader topic. There are some cases where a narrow topic becomes so well-known that it claims the ambiguous term; for instance, Watergate redirects to Watergate scandal rather than Watergate complex. But here, as SnowFire notes, the island and the prison are discussed together frequently. -- Tamzin cetacean needed (she/they) 02:57, 1 January 2022 (UTC) reply
