Graphist opinion(s):  Done I tried to be as un-intrusive as possible. However, in the case of stamps (especially old stamps), there are always tiny differences in the process of printing. These differences are sometimes all what distinguishes one stamp (or plate etc.) from another. That's why I always recommend finding and uploading another good scan, maybe from ebay, that doesn't have this type of cancellation. Still though, I think this particular one turned out okay! Graphist opinion(s): I hate to say it but that image is beyond saving in my honest opinion. There is just too much reflection interference to salvage some sort of background, it would take a great deal of work and ultimately degrade the image. Those look to be crop marks, probably written on the photographic print back when people had to manually crop and create plates for printing. Best bet is to clone tool them away. Also looks like alot of manual brushup work too on his chin, neck and in his jacket and hat. Request: I'm not sure what can be done, but these five otherwise very useful and informative images of Reza Shah's mausoleum in Tehran (destroyed in 1979 following the Islamic Revolution) are all defaced with the words "Ray Monument" [sic].
