Comment – Should be the U.S. Navy, which has never been known as the "federal navy" – even, from what I've seen, during the Civil War.

Sca: No, that actually was used during the civil war. See
this search and
this article for just two examples.

I couldn't access your second cite. In Eng.-lang. historiography, the U.S. Navy during the Civil War usually is referred to as the
Union Navy (as the U.S. Army is termed the
Union Army). See, for example,
this article. –

Support either.

Support either, prefer Edit 1, or similar. The file pages say images were extracted from
this, but they were extracted from
this. There is minor scratch close to the tip of his left hand index finger, not sure if it needs fixing though.

Comment The first one is cropped too much. The second would benefit from a little work around the left hand.

Would tentatively support Edit 1 as per my comment on the talk page. The pant leg could maybe take another pass or two (I'm not sure -- something looks very slightly off -- not a deal-breaker), and there's still a scratch on the pointer finger of the left hand that I presume Charles is referring to. I don't know if there's much else that can be done with the left hand, given the original. — Rhododendritestalk \\ 13:23, 28 January 2019 (UTC)reply
Charlesjsharp and
Rhododendrites I've further restored Edit one, removing the scratch on the pointer finger (I think?) Let my know how it looks...

Support Edit 1 (the updated version following the "I've further restored" comment above) — Rhododendritestalk \\ 22:36, 28 January 2019 (UTC)reply
Original too cropped for me. Support edit 1Charlesjsharp (
