Nominator's rationale: I'm hoping the regulars here know whether or not Wikipedia categorizes according to "by constituent entities of the Russian Federation". In my quick search, I could only find this phrasing on 5 categories created today by editor User:Boxes12. If there is another appropriate category, this category could be merged. Liz Read! • Keep per argument made by Marcocapelle that it is a valid subcategory of Category:Animated television series about animals. The OP says it isn't a "defining trait" but then admits that "most of these shows only have a fish as a primary or secondary character". Doesn't that justify the necessity of the category? It seems like it does to me. -- Historyday01 ( talk) 18:38, 19 May 2022 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: It's unclear what's supposed to be placed in this category. Medical conditions do not divide neatly into "known cure" and "no known cure". Additionally, there is a technical distinction between a condition being treatable vs curable that is not obvious to most readers (or Wikipedia editors). It's not a severity question, because some "incurable medical conditions" cause no real health problems (e.g., male-pattern baldness), and some "curable" ones kill millions of people (e.g., pneumonia).
Even if you know the distinction, it's hard to implement in practice. For example, someone added HIV/AIDS to this category, and yet we have an article about Timothy Ray Brown, the first-ever person permanently cured of HIV/AIDS (there have been at least eight people cured, mostly by accidentally acquiring an even worse disease called Graft-versus-host disease).
I therefore suggest that Wikipedia is better off not having this category at all. WhatamIdoing ( talk) 18:43, 18 May 2022 (UTC) reply

  • Delete Worse than the "Lists of" articles that have been deleted, because a category has no sources and is a binary in/out system that doesn't fit with reality here. I think it partly comes from considering only infectious disease rather than considering the multitude of medical conditions people are born with or acquire in life. This is looking at things the wrong way round and is more like "People who haven't played professional football". -- Colin° Talk 07:59, 19 May 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Delete Would include, at time of writing, all disorders caused solely by genetic defects or chromosomal abnormalities, apart from experimental gene therapy. The distinction between treatment and cure is also a bit unclear in some cases, such as for congenital defects that involve extra or missing body parts. – LaundryPizza03 ( d ) 13:08, 20 May 2022 (UTC) reply

  • Keep – The category is populated with discontinued products that are no longer manufactured. For Wikipedia's purposes of organizing content, product usability has nothing to do with whether or not a company discontinues producing a product. This category is not titled as "Non-usable Apple Inc. products", because usability is not a factor; the status of production is the defining factor. It is entirely defining when a product is discontinued; it is no longer made. Furthermore, there is an entire main category of Category:Discontinued products, and deletion of this category would hinder the organization of the encyclopedia for discontinued products. Nominator's rationale: Failure of WP:NONDEF. Whether a smartphone gets discontinued is not defining as it would be with an online service. A smartphone is generally not hindered in any way by being discontinued, besides not being obtainable anymore through the non-used market. It may eventually be unable to operate on modern cellular networks, but this is not the "obsolete smartphones" category. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ ( ) 06:44, 18 May 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Keep – These categories serves to organize articles for discontinued mobile phones, specifically, smartphones and iPhones that are no longer being manufactured. It is entirely defining when a product is no longer produced; hence the term "discontinued". Whether or not a smartphone is "hindered" has nothing to do with its production status of being discontinued. Indeed, as per the nomination, this is not the "obsolete smartphones" category; it's a category for smartphones no longer in production. Also, while smartphones can utilize network services, it is not a qualifier to then dismiss smartphones that are no longer produced; some people use smartphones as personal digital assistants without a network. In other words, consumer use or non-use of a network (termed "online service" in the nomination), is not aligned in general with whether or not a manufacturer discontinues production of a product. It's apples and oranges. Furthermore, there is an entire main category of Category:Discontinued products, and deletion of this category would hinder the organization of the encyclopedia for discontinued products. • Keep – These categories serve to organize articles for discontinued video game consoles and handheld game consoles; consoles that are no longer manufactured. It is specifically defining when a product is no longer produced; hence the term "discontinued". Contrary to the nomination statement of "not defining as it would be with an online service or online game", actually many discontinued products such as these do not utilize online services, utilizing cartridges and the like instead. For example, per the Nintendo 64 article, which is in this category, it was "the last major home console to use cartridges as its primary storage format". Likewise, the Game Boy also uses cartridges, and lacks capability to even connect to online services. The category organizes articles for consoles no longer in production; it is irrelevant whether or not online services are used or not. Also, there is an entire main category of Category:Discontinued products, and deletion of this category would hinder the organization of the encyclopedia for discontinued products.
