The result of the discussion was: merge. -- BrownHairedGirl (talk) • ( contribs) 05:24, 12 April 2018 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, the above four categories contain, together, only three articles and one sub Category:Carniolan writers. There is no need for such a narrow diffusion within a former polity that was de facto nothing more than a small province of the Habsburg Empire. Marcocapelle ( talk) 13:12, 4 March 2018 (UTC) reply

Years and decades in Ukraine

The result of the discussion was: merge up to 17th century, no consensus for 1700s onwards.Fayenatic London 12:19, 3 May 2018 (UTC) reply
Example
The full list of nominated categories can be found here.
Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, mostly just one article per category. This is follow-up on a previous nomination that was supported in principle but considered to be too broad so that country specific details could not be discussed. So here is another separate nomination by country.
All Ukrainian categories nominated here have anachronism issues. Related to this, in the previous discussion a reference was made to this other discussion about Ukraine which still hasn't been closed. I would suggest to proceed with this merge anyway, because it will be much easier to discuss the anachronisms after the merging: way fewer categories need to be nominated for a fresh discussion. Marcocapelle ( talk) 12:22, 4 March 2018 (UTC) reply
  • The two discussions are not really related, because the other discussion is about after which polity the category should be named, while here it is about upmerging regardless the name of the polity. Marcocapelle ( talk) 20:03, 4 March 2018 (UTC) reply
  • I agree with BrownHairedGirl on this - wait for now. GreyShark ( dibra) 13:51, 16 March 2018 (UTC) reply
  • That other discussion has been closed. Though I still do not see how it would impact this discussion. Marcocapelle ( talk) 07:58, 2 April 2018 (UTC) reply
That the consensus is to build up a new tree for Yekaterinoslav Governorate, but some users deleted the categories in contrary with the closure. There was no Ukraine, until there was Ukraine in 1991 (doubtful we can build year-trees for short-living UPR, WUPR and 1941 Ukraine under Nazi occupation - each living for about a year). GreyShark ( dibra) 13:22, 26 April 2018 (UTC) reply
This is a clear case of trying to game the system. The discussion is closed as keep - but users are making a rename. GreyShark ( dibra) 13:17, 26 April 2018 (UTC) reply
I've just spotted that the Ukrainian IP address which did the second move on Motor Sich, out of Russian Empire into the Ukraine category, [1] is the same as the address that opposed merging post-1700 in this CFD (above, dated 8 March). – Fayenatic London 21:35, 26 April 2018 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:OCEGRS. There is not a unique history of Armenian-Americans in medicine that would justify this category. All three articles are already in Category:American physicians or a subcategory. TM 12:21, 4 March 2018 (UTC) reply

The result of the discussion was: split relisted, see here ( non-admin closure). Marcocapelle ( talk) 07:14, 25 March 2018 (UTC) reply
Nominator's rationale: This category is supposedly a subset of Category:Legendary creatures, meaning it's supposed to only contain monsters from mythology and legend. However, a large number of articles in it are actually from popular culture, fantasy and folklore. I think splitting it would solve the problem, with Category:Fictional monsters becoming a subcategory of Category:Fictional life forms instead. ZXCVBNM ( TALK) 08:53, 4 March 2018 (UTC) reply

The result of the discussion was: delete. -- BrownHairedGirl (talk) • ( contribs) 05:29, 12 April 2018 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: delete, the category only contains redirects, three of which to Scheduling (computing), and the articles to which they redirect are properly categorized in the tree of Category:Scheduling (computing) already. Marcocapelle ( talk) 07:17, 4 March 2018 (UTC) reply
Keep, possibly rename: Not all are redirects, e.g., SCHED DEADLINE. The redirects now cover several different articles within different categories. These are well known names that should be retained. Possibly rename to Category:Scheduling classes. Dpleibovitz ( talk) 22:02, 7 March 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Delete. The articles are already categorized more appropriately (e.g. in Category:Linux kernel process schedulers). The creator of this category appears (this is more obvious in their other categories which are also at CFD) to have poor understanding of wp categorization. Cal State Hayward Pioneers football

The result of the discussion was: Rename ( WP:NAC). -- DexDor (talk) 20:22, 3 April 2018 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: The football team at what is now known as California State University, East Bay was discontinued in 1993 when the school was named "California State University, Hayward". The school's athletic teams were commonly referred to as "Cal State Hayward" at that time. Jweiss11 ( talk) 02:23, 4 March 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Support. The categories should be named according to the common usage when the football program existed. The season articles are already named in this manner. E.g., 1973 Cal State Hayward Pioneers football team. Cbl62 ( talk) 16:03, 4 March 2018 (UTC) reply
