Category:Defunct comics, Category:Defunct American comics and Category:Defunct British comics. This category was created a long time ago, before comics were categorized by year of introduction and conclusion. A few months back all comics series that were terminated have an end year category. So is there really a need anymore for an article that is simply called "Defunct comics"? - User:Kjell Knudde, 15:34, November 30, 2015, (CET)
  • The question is whether a categorization of defunct comics by end year would exclude a categorization of defunct comics by country. I don't think so (yet). Marcocapelle ( talk) 22:20, 30 November 2015 (UTC) reply
    • Interesting point. Categorizing them by country of origin may still warrant a necessary list. At the same time I have problems with the definition of this category. How do you define something is "defunct"? Does it refer to comics where no new episodes are produced (like Peanuts, Tintin) or does it refer to comics that are no longer available on the regular market (trying to obtain a copy of Dolly Dimples or Abe Martin of Brown County nowadays will not be simple) ? What about comics that are terminated, but have a homage comic book published by other artists now and then? ( Peanuts and The Lighter Side of..., for instance). What about comics series that laid dormant for several decades and are suddenly rebooted by a different artist in a different style? And does Category:One-shot comic titles belong into Category:Defunct comics as a subcategory? Perhaps a more clear and specific definition could be handy? - User:Kjell Knudde 14:27, December 11, 2015 (UTC).
    • I also discovered that there is a page called "Category:Defunct magazines", which subcategorizes magazines by country as "Category:Defunct magazines of France", "Defunct magazines of China", "Defunct magazines of Mexico",...[ [1]] and so on. Shouldn't the "Defunct American comics" and "Defunct British comics" category be renamed in line with that category, something like "Defunct comics of the United States" and "Defunct comics of the United Kingdom" ? - User:Kjell Knudde 13:41, December 14, 2015 (UTC).
    • I personally find the Category:Defunct British comics very useful - the British comic in the past was an interesting animal and most of the interesting ones are now defunct, and I don't always know which year they ceased publication, so the plain list as it is works well for me. But I wish that a lot of these Category pages were in fact tables with sortable columns ... in this case: Name of Comic, year of first publication, (original) publisher, last published (date and publisher, if different) and possibly a thumbnail image of a front cover. I wonder if that could be done?? Maitchy ( talk) 03:56, 5 January 2016 (UTC) reply
    • It's certainly interesting to have an overview of comics no longer in production. But I still wonder if it's necessary when almost all comics now have a debut and ending category and in the case of the comics magazines even an establishment and disestablishment category? Also, there is no category for "Defunct radio shows", "Defunct television series" and/or "Defunct film series". Perhaps an article listing "comics no longer in syndication" or "comics definitely terminated", or something among those lines, would be more useful, because then you can also add sources to back up the claim that these comics are definitely terminated. As for your question about adding sortable columns: most pages have an infobox providing that information. I have added several myself and you can add those too if you have the time. - User:Kjell Knudde 7:43, December 5, 2015 (CET).

Move to "... adapted into..."

The result of the discussion was: rename both. – Fayenatic L ondon 23:15, 9 January 2016 (UTC) reply
Category:Television programs which were adapted for radio and Category:Radio series that were transferred to television: Both are useful categories, which list radio adaptations of TV shows and TV adaptations of radio shows, but the titles are very long and quite confusing. Plus similar categories are all named "... adapted into ...", see for instance here on the page Category:Works adapted into radio programs and Category:Works adapted into television programs. I would suggest a name change for both of them into " Category:Television programs adapted into radio programs" and " Category:Radio programs adapted into television programs", so that they are more in line with the other categories. I use "programs" rather than "series", so that all kinds of radio or TV emissions can be covered. - User:Kjell Knudde 14:20, 30 November 2015 (UTC). reply

Category:Attila the Hun in popular culture, Category:Jesus in popular culture, Category:Vladimir Lenin in culture, Category:Barbra Streisand in popular culture, Category:Leon Trotsky in popular culture, Category:George W. Bush in fiction, Category:Depictions of Abraham Lincoln in popular culture, Category:Abraham Lincoln in fiction, Category:Richard Nixon in popular culture, Category:Barack Obama in fiction, Category:Theodore Roosevelt in popular culture, Category:Depictions of Genghis Khan, Category:Bao Zheng in fiction, Category:Jack the Ripper in fiction, Category:Leonardo da Vinci in fiction, Category:Adolf Hitler in fiction, Category:Augustus in popular culture, Category:Su Shi in fiction, Category:Depictions of Nero, Category:Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in popular culture, Category:Ludwig van Beethoven in popular culture: All these categories are definitely useful. However: I would like to suggest renaming all of them to the phrase that is used the most in other similar categories, namely "Category:Cultural depictions of...". See here, for comparison: Category:Cultural depictions of Presidents of the United States and Category:Depictions of people in popular culture, where most of the other categories about celebrities are also named "Category:Cultural depictions of...". Also, Category:Abraham Lincoln in fiction and Category:Depictions of Abraham Lincoln in popular culture could perhaps better be merged as one category: Category:Cultural depictions of Abraham Lincoln. - User:Kjell Knudde, 14:20 , 30 November 2015 (UTC).
Category:Parodies of Christian Bale, Category:Josef Breuer in fiction and Category:Depictions of Caligula on film: And while we're at it: these categories have very few entries. - User:Kjell Knudde, 15:01, 30 November 2015 (UTC) reply
