Category:Defunct comics, Category:Defunct American comics and Category:Defunct British comics. This category was created a long time ago, before comics were categorized by year of introduction and conclusion. A few months back all comics series that were terminated have an end year category. So is there really a need anymore for an article that is simply called "Defunct comics"? -

The question is whether a categorization of defunct comics by end year would exclude a categorization of defunct comics by country. I don't think so (yet).

Interesting point. Categorizing them by country of origin may still warrant a necessary list. At the same time I have problems with the definition of this category. How do you define something is "defunct"? Does it refer to comics where no new episodes are produced (like Peanuts, Tintin) or does it refer to comics that are no longer available on the regular market (trying to obtain a copy of Dolly Dimples or Abe Martin of Brown County nowadays will not be simple) ? What about comics that are terminated, but have a homage comic book published by other artists now and then? (Peanuts and The Lighter Side of..., for instance). What about comics series that laid dormant for several decades and are suddenly rebooted by a different artist in a different style? And does
Category:One-shot comic titles belong into Category:Defunct comics as a subcategory? Perhaps a more clear and specific definition could be handy? -

I also discovered that there is a page called "Category:Defunct magazines", which subcategorizes magazines by country as "Category:Defunct magazines of France", "Defunct magazines of China", "Defunct magazines of Mexico",...[
[1]] and so on. Shouldn't the "Defunct American comics" and "Defunct British comics" category be renamed in line with that category, something like "Defunct comics of the United States" and "Defunct comics of the United Kingdom" ? -

I personally find the Category:Defunct British comics very useful - the British comic in the past was an interesting animal and most of the interesting ones are now defunct, and I don't always know which year they ceased publication, so the plain list as it is works well for me. But I wish that a lot of these Category pages were in fact tables with sortable columns ... in this case: Name of Comic, year of first publication, (original) publisher, last published (date and publisher, if different) and possibly a thumbnail image of a front cover. I wonder if that could be done??

It's certainly interesting to have an overview of comics no longer in production. But I still wonder if it's necessary when almost all comics now have a debut and ending category and in the case of the comics magazines even an establishment and disestablishment category? Also, there is no category for "Defunct radio shows", "Defunct television series" and/or "Defunct film series". Perhaps an article listing "comics no longer in syndication" or "comics definitely terminated", or something among those lines, would be more useful, because then you can also add sources to back up the claim that these comics are definitely terminated. As for your question about adding sortable columns: most pages have an infobox providing that information. I have added several myself and you can add those too if you have the time. -

Comment: the proposal is to rename
Category:Jesus in popular culture to
Category:Cultural depictions of Jesus, but in at least that case there is an existing
Category:Depictions of Jesus for depictions in the visual arts. I guess the latter could become a sub-cat, but at present it seems to me that they serve distinct functions. Also, most or all person-specific sub-cats of
Category:Fictional versions of real people seem to have been nominated here, but the proposal would remove their contents from that hierarchy; we might end up with people putting even more articles directly into that category, to the detriment of clear navigation. –

But doesn't that add to further confusion? I personally don't see much difference between Abraham Lincoln in fiction and Abraham Lincoln in popular culture, other than the title. Is "fiction" meant for serious depictions, like biopics, and "in popular culture" for depictions of a humoristic nature, like cartoons, comics and comedy films? In the end all of them are cultural depictions, whether it is low brow or high brow. That's why I would support one uniform categorization, under the title "Cultural depictions of..." In the case of Jesus Christ I can understand making "Cultural depictions of Jesus Christ", but having a subcategory for paintings and statues, as the number of art works depicting Christ are plentiful enough to warrant a separate category. -
