• I strongly suspect this is not the most common name of the yard (not the first time this has happened). This is quite a significant facility and UP has a major intermodal operation here, as it's adjacent to the Port of Oakland.   Keep, but rename It's exactly as I suspected - names used appear to include Oakland Yard(s), West Oakland Yard(s), or Oakland Pier Yard(s). I've also seen Oakland Terminal. I ran into similar issues while bringing Cedar Hill Yard to FA status - names used include Cedar Hill Yards, Cedar Hill Yard, Cedar Hill Terminal, and Montowese Yard. For the facility in question, I was able to find ample significant coverage:

  • 3 pages on new facilities for car lighting at the yards
  • [1] (granted this is primary)
  • [2] "Above all, the Southern Pacific dominated West Oakland's industrial, as well as social, geography with its massive switching and maintenance yards, roundhouses, car assembly and repair shops, creosoting plant, and shipyards (the Southern Pacific built ferries for San Francisco Bay)."
  • Article on the creosoting plant at the yards
  • [3] "In the Oakland yards of the Southern Pacific is handled more freight cars than at any other point on the Pacific Coast"
  • [4] Signal shop located at West Oakland Yard
