Join the USDA National Agricultural Library for a two-part event on water law and activism in the United States.
Rapidly changing weather patterns impact food safety in both direct and indirect ways. Drought and extreme temperatures can limit safe water for fresh produce irrigation and create favorable growth conditions for pathogens, leading to foodborne illness. Flash floods can generate chemical contaminant runoff into natural water systems, resulting in long-term effects on food supply and safety.
During this two-part event, Dr. Jodi Williams and Dr. Sheila Fleischhacker of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) share how climate change affects food safety and how USDA is addressing these issues.
Following our speakers, we will offer Wikipedia editing training and edit articles related to the effects of climate change on food safety.
