"Into the Wikiverse": AANHPIs in Science Fiction and Pop Culture
It's May the 4th! We’re celebrating National Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month with an edit-a-thon to address the underrepresentation of AANHPI women in Science Fiction and Pop Culture on Wikipedia.
Did you know that less than 19% of Wikipedia biographies in English represent women, less than 10% of Wikipedia editors are women, and there are considerable gaps relating to Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander women's history? Drop-in to this virtual event and learn the basics of how to edit Wikipedia and help update Science Fiction and Pop Culture related AANHPI articles. All experience levels are welcome!
Dr. Theodore Gonzalves, Curator of Asian Pacific American History at Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, will share more about Asian American Science Fiction and Pop Culture highlights from the recently opened Entertainment Nation exhibition.
