Family taxoboxes

Because of the largeness of the beetle order, the suborder must be specified, on all occasions. Otherwise, how is the reader supposed to known that, say, Carabidae is part of Adephaga and not in Polyphaga, or in Myxophaga, for that matter? Most of the time, it is necessary to specify the infraorder and superfamilies (especially when dealing with Polyphagans). The subdivisions of the family do not need to be listed in the taxobox; common sense should be used. However, as a rule, for families containing more than 1,000 species, genera should not be listed in the taxobox. Below is an example taxobox:

Carabidae
Scientific classification
Kingdom:
Phylum:
Class:
Order:
Suborder:
Superfamily:
Family:
Carabidae

The code is:

Subfamily and genera taxoboxes

Subfamily and genera taxoboxes are very similar. As in family taxoboxes, it is necessary to specify the suborder and for members of Polyphaga, is necessary to specify the superfamily. In families that are large (containing more than 1,000 species), the genus taxoboxes must have the subfamily in the taxobox. It is not necessary to use the subdivision parameter; use common sense when applying this feature. Below are two examples for subfamily taxoboxes. You can paste the code to other pages and simply change the names.

Lampyrinae

Superfamily:

Subfamily:

Harpalinae

The same rules for subfamily taxoboxes apply to genera taxoboxes. In families with more than 1,000 species, it is necessary to specify the subfamily the genus is in, and occasionally will even be necessary to specify the tribe (see Ellychnia). Below are some examples:

Carterus

Species taxoboxes

The species taxobox follows similar rules to the genus taxoboxes. The suborder must be specified. If this is a species in the suborder Polyphaga, the infraorders should be specified. In families with more than 1,000 species, the subfamily must be specified. In some enormous families (such as Staphylinidae), it might even be helpful to specify the tribe. In genera larger than 50 species, it is vital to add the subgenus to the species taxobox. Ranks such as supertribes and subtribes should be applied with common sense. You can also use Speciesbox after adding the genus.
