Suspected sockpuppets


See Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive945#Disruptive_editing.2C_vandalism.2C_gaming_the_system for background. Behaviour of editor Kelechi32 is strikingly similar to that of Zakariayps (indef blocked 11 Feb 2017). I believe Kelechi32 is a sockpuppet of the aforementioned blocked editor.

Both users have very idiosyncratic edits of their talk page, this occurs on the same day:

Kelechi32 [ 1] (these edits were done within 1 hour of each other.)

The edits are so idiosyncratic in fact that both editors edited their talk pages on 8 Feb with the exact same content exactly four minutes apart:

Zakariayps [ 1], [ 2], [ 3], [ 4], [ 5].

Kelechi32 [ 1], [ 2], [ 3], [ 4], [ 5].

These are just few examples, you can continue checking the diffs for many more.

Kelechi32 ‎also seem to be a case of WP:PRECOCIOUS looking at their history.

Near identical edits to identical articles, including Badhan, Taleh, Buuhoodle, Faisal Ali Warabe, Erigavo, and even some pretty obscure articles like Qoryale ( pages linking to it) with 28 total page views and Armale ( pages linking to it) 80 total page views.They are exhibiting the exact same editing behaviour on Erigavo too.   • 8 February editing on both accounts start at identical times:

  • Then timeline goes:

Edits by Zakariayps from timestamp 06:51-06:54 [3], [4], [5], [6]. Zakariayps then stops editing, and Kelechi32 starts editing from timestamp 06:55-06:59 [7], [8], [9], [10], [11]..... before they stop at 06:59 [12]. At which point Zakariayps starts again at 06:59 [13]. And edits the exact same string of dots as Kelechi32 [14] (he continues to repeat the same dot just like Kelechi32).

  • The rhythm and pace of editing seems to be 4 edits per minute from 06:55 onwards by Kalechi32 [15] [16], this continue through 06:56, 06:57, 06:58, with 06:59 being the only exception having only three edits [17], [18], [19]. But wait (!), Zakariayps (sockmaster) has only one edit for the minute of 06:59 [20] so the pattern is is still there, just split between two accounts.

The editor was blocked indefinitely for attempting to game the system, they are gaming the system still by registering a new account to circumvent the block and go back to the exact same pages and behaviour. Please note that they have registered the new account two days [21] before they were even reported Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive945#Disruptive editing.2C vandalism.2C gaming the system, which is a clear indication of prior knowledge their account will eventually be blocked and attempting to pre-empt the block by registering a new account. - Sockpuppet JohnnyRoggan2424's 5th edit ever [23] was to circumvent 3RR in support of blocked sockpuppet Kelechi32 [24]. Please note the article in question has only 140 pageviews in total [25] with 6 edits and 3 editors and very few pages linking to it [26].

- Their 7th edit ever was [27] another page sockpuppet Kelechi32 was involved in edit wars on [28]. Again this article has only 151 total page views, with 11 edits and 4 editors and very few pages linking to it [29]. In both Bulhar and Armale articles, editor exhibits knowledge of these obscure articles existing, very early on in their Wikipedia histories which leads me to WP:OBSART.

- JohnnyRoggan2424's most active page is Sool, Somalia another page where Kelechi32 previously edited.

They exhibited very idiosyncratic behaviour as sockmaster and sockpuppet, like quickly removing warning from their talkpages [30], very similar to sockpuppet Kelechi32 [31] and sockmaster Zakariyayps [32].

Both myself and @ NeilN: asked in the previous investigation page [33] for checks on another user for potential sleeper accounts.

The accounts listed exhibit same behaviour WP:PRECOCIOUS, WP:REPEATING, and more importantly the editing of identical articles WP:IDENTICAL. There may be more sleeper accounts.

There is also the question of chronology:

Fz525 edits Erigavo at 08:15 [34], JohnnyRoggan2424 edits Sool, Somalia at 08:34, Kendrick5423 then edits Sanaag at 08:47 [35]. Erigavo is a town in Sanaag, and both Sool, Somalia and Sanaag are adjacent regions within Somaliland (disputed with Somalia). Kzl55 ( talk) 13:46, 10 March 2017 (UTC) reply

Suspected sockpuppets

This known sockmaster operates sockpuppets across many pages on or related to Somaliland/Somalia dispute. Some of these pages include Adal_Sultanate, Sultanate_of_Ifat and Erigavo. I have attempted to compile a timeline of sockpuppets getting blocked and new ones appearing to continue the same behaviour of sockmaster.

Timeline:
  • 9 February 2017, sockmaster Zakariyaip indefinite block (gaming the system) [37]
  • 22 February 2017, first SPI against socks [38]
  • 1 March 2017, sock blocked by NeilN
  • 4 March 2017, a previous request to keep SPI to check for sleeper accounts is reiterated by NeilN.
  • 10 March 2017, second SPI started.
  • 10 March 2017, (same day) socks confirmed and blocked.

There seems to be a pattern with this sockmaster of a couple of preparatory edits on unrelated pages to build up some history before commencing to edit their pages of interest ( Adal_Sultanate, Sultanate_of_Ifat and Erigavo and others). With that in mind below is the timeline of the sockpuppets reported in this SPI.

Timeline of current socks:

  • 4 February 2017

- IP 79.74.15.136 performing two consecutive edits (19:22,19:27, their only edits ever) with similar behaviour to sockmaster [39], [40].

  • 21 February 2017

- IP 2601:601:1101:38B0:C96B:C1EB:FC6D:57E4 posts their only ever edit supporting the position of sockmaster [41].

  • 22 February 2017 (date of first SPI)

- IP 95.8.207.79 posts two consecutive edits (20:10, 20:11, their only edits ever) [42], [43] with similar behaviour to sockmaster.

- IP 67.131.113.26 suddenly wakes up (first edit 8 May 2014) and starts posting similar sentiment to sockmaster on pages frequented by sockmaster.

  • 25 February 2017

- IP 78.174.147.202 posts two consecutive edits (12:17, 12:19, they have 3 edits in total) then goes straight to edit a page frequented by sockmaster, in fact the last edit before their was a known blocked sock [44].

  • 6 March 2017

- IP 2600:387:6:805:0:0:0:93 posts two edits (02:03, 02:07, they have 3 edits in total) before going on the page frequented by sockmaster and edit exactly in the same style [45].

  • 8 March 2017

- IP 2600:387:6:80F:0:0:0:BA posts two preparatory edits (06:27, 06:28, these ones clearly disruptive [46], [47], please note first edit 22 July 2016) before editing pages frequented by sockmaster in a similar fashion [48]. They then come back on 10 March (the date of 2nd SPI) to perform similar edits to sockmaster [49], [50], [51].

- IP 4.53.137.66 comes in with an identical story. Their first edit was on 22 March 2016. Somehow they come back to life 8 March 2017 to support sockpuppet narrative on pages of interest. They perform identical edits to other named IP socks [52].

  • 10 March 2017 (same day as 2nd SPI and confirmation of sockpuppets)

- IP 50.152.206.55 (first two edits on 5 March on pages frequented by sockmaster, their edits were at 08:55, 09:01, I've added them to this date because the bulk of their editing happens on the 10th). This editor joins and exclusively edits pages of interest to sockmaster in identical ways [53]

  • 11 March 2017

- Editor Mohamud210 joins Wikipedia and performs exact same edits as sock master on pages frequented by sockmaster, time interval between the 5 edits they ever made is only 9 minutes.

- IP 2600:387:6:805:0:0:0:84 who had only one edit prior (dated 22 April 2016) suddenly comes back and exclusively edits pages frequented by sockmaster supporting their view (10 edits in total starting 22:24 and ending 22:40).

- IP 2601:646:8084:6C0B:5C7B:BDB7:9D44:B92A has only one single edit on the same page frequented by sockmaster and with exact same style [54].

  • 12 March 2017
- IP 107.77.212.116 joins and performs exact same edits as Mohamud201 [55], and other IP editor 2600:387:6:805::84 [56] Kzl55 ( talk) 22:15, 14 March 2017 (UTC) reply

Same perennial sockmaster. Exact same pattern and obsession with the use of the word 'partly' [69] (this example is a diff of their edit with one of the sockmaster's many confirmed puppets).

Additional information:

Same exact pattern of first quick edit on a random page to establish some semblance of history [70] followed quickly (within minutes) by editing furiously on pages of interest (edit history). So they go from editing a page of a district in Zimbabwe (not a write-up, just adding a source) to arguing on the Sanaag talkpage in a matter of minutes.

There is also their claim of this membership being their first ever [71] which presents a curious case of WP:PRECOCIOUS given (edit history), especially when most of their edits happen on pages that are not very popular [72] which hints at WP:OBSART, along with a history that is WP:IDENTICAL to confirmed socks Special:Contributions/Kendrick5423, Special:Contributions/Serial1091.

Exact same pattern of edits on the same pages of interest of sockmaster, diff examples include identical edits to known and blocked socks: [75], also supporting other alleged socks [76], [77], [78], [79], [80].

Clear disregard for Wikipedia rules [81].

Suspected sockpuppets


Editor engaged in edit warring on the same pages of interest as perennial sockmaster (Somaliland related articles), with a specific interest in replacing 'Somaliland' with 'Somalia', just like the sockmaster [85], [86], [87], and many more.

Compared to sock: [88], [89], [90], [91].

Additional information:

They are also engaging in similar forms of disruptive editing to Somaliland related pages. This includes: removing Somaliland's national anthem from a template of national anthems of Africa (please note template makes no mention of de jure status and includes other non-UN-recognised nations such as Sahrawi Arab Republic, Saint Helena and Réunion ) [92], they also removed Somaliland from List of foreign ministers in 2017 for no apparent reason [93] (list also includes other unrecognised states such as SAR).
