The World AIDS Day Wikipedia Editathon 2017 will be held Thursday, November 30, 12-2pm at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center to commemorate World AIDS Day. Attendees at the event are invited to edit Wikipedia articles about HIV/AIDS activism, social issues, medical topics, or related biographies.
Wikimedia New York City and Wikimedia LGBT+ are presenting the event in alliance with TheBody.com and TheBodyPRO.com.
All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will provide research resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics.
This event invites its attendees to edit Wikipedia articles related to HIV/AIDS. Since Wikipedia is a summary of what reliable publications have already reported, participants can prepare for the event by identifying information that they wish to share in reliable publications. Wikipedia's standard of reliability matches academic opinions, so if a university librarian would approve of a source, Wikipedia will also!
Note that before the event, your focus for preparation should be the research you do outside of Wikipedia for identifying good sources of information to cite!
