Notice of obsolescence: Community sanctions in this area of conflict have been revoked or have expired. As a result, this community sanctions-related page is now obsolete, is retained only for historical reference, and should not be modified. For the specific community decision that rescinded or modified these community sanctions, see
this link.
Any editor who systematically adds or removes the term "British Isles" from multiple articles without clear sourcing and justification, or who edit-wars over such addition or removal, may be added to the list of topic-banned editors.
For the purpose of adding users to the list, as well as imposing and enforcing restrictions under this provision, an administrator should be uninvolved. An administrator will be considered "uninvolved" if he or she is not engaged in a current, direct, personal conflict on the topic with the user receiving sanctions (note: enforcing this provision will not be considered to be participation in a dispute). Sanctions imposed under this provision may be appealed to the imposing administrator, the appropriate administrators' noticeboard, or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators are not to reverse such sanctions without either (1) approval by the imposing administrator, or without (2) community consensus or Committee approval to do so. All sanctions imposed are to be logged below.
Types of sanctions that may be used:
Civility parole
Interaction bans
Revert restriction
Topic bans
Topic bans allowing discussion but not editing of the term 'British Isles' have been used in two cases (TritonRocker and HighKing). Complete bans from editing and discussing the topic of the term British Isles has also been implemented (LevenBoy). A further type of topic ban that bans an editor from all editing and discussion of naming disputes to do with Britain, Ireland and the term 'British Isles' was also discussed as one of the remedies available to this probation.
Log of sanctions
Log any topic bans and restrictions that are imposed; duplicates should be avoided. All restrictions will be enforced by blocks.
Note: All sanctions imposed so far have been of indefinite durations - per discussion of this probation on ANI.
List of topic-banned and sanctioned editors
Log user name and any action taken with regards to this probation. Where a ban is lifted, the entry may not be removed - it may be striken, with a separate entry of name of admin or diff where ## was lifted; basis for removing from list; diff of notification to user. As with all pages, use common sense. The following information should be proved:
User name. Restriction.
Name of administrator who imposed ##; basis for adding to list; [diff of notification to user|timestamp].
Blocked for (duration); (which sanction was violated); diff of violation or summary of why conduct was considered to be violation; sign.
