Categories for recipients of Polish civil awards with no main article

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. There is no objection that lists could be created if articles on the awards are created. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 ( d ) 08:01, 20 July 2023 (UTC) reply
Nominator's rationale: WP:DNWAUC, WP:OCAWARD and WP:NONDEFINING
There's no requirement that all categories have a main article but, in these cases, it would really help to understand the importance of the awards and--for the last 2 of them--what they're for. The biography articles generally mention these awards in a list with other honours so they're not treated as defining regardless. I do suspect that all of these awards are notable enough for an article which will need a list of recipients. To make sure no work is lost, I copied all the current contents right here. - RevelationDirect ( talk) 22:36, 10 July 2023 (UTC) reply
@ Nederlandse Leeuw: Fair question since I've effectivley created (rough) drafts. In order to satisfy WP:NLIST and move these to the mainspace, it's going to take someone with more topic area knowledge than me (and Polish language skills might also be helpful). - RevelationDirect ( talk) 10:51, 12 July 2023 (UTC) reply
Fair enough. Well if someone does want to make such lists, they can use your draft to start with. So I guess Delete per nom. Nederlandse Leeuw ( talk) 11:18, 12 July 2023 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: WP:OCAWARD and WP:NONDEFINING
We don't have a main article for the Order of the Grand Warrior but it's a Kenyan award for giving/risking your life to save another. The only article in this category is Salah Farah, who died fighting off a terrorist attack, and is definitely defined by that event but not the award. There wasn't a list (if you can call 1 article a "list") so I added his name to the Orders, decorations, and medals of Kenya article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect ( talk) 22:36, 10 July 2023 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: Eponymous category for an organization and two people who were affiliated with it. This is not enough content to justify an eponymous category, so it's also a WP:SMALLCAT, and filing people in it violates WP:OCASSOC. The club itself should be added to Category:Sailing clubs in New York (state), but the people obviously should not. Bearcat ( talk) 12:47, 10 July 2023 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: merge, these people weren't politicians but courtiers, bureaucrats and governors. Besides Iranian politics did not exist any earlier than in Safavid Iran starting in the 16th century. Before that, speakers of Iranian languages were serving miscellaneous Muslim dynasties without Iran existing as a country. Marcocapelle ( talk) 05:31, 10 July 2023 (UTC) reply
  • The main objection is about politicians, Persian does not solve that. Also, Iranian isn't anachronistic per se, but the state of Iran was lacking at the time. Persian does not solve that either. Marcocapelle ( talk) 10:42, 12 July 2023 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:NONDEFINING
When people book venues for events, they look at a lot of possible amenities: on-site catering, pipe organ, wheelchair accessibility, valet parking, bridal/vip suites, sound systems, dance floors, stages, security, liquor license, adjacent hotel availability, etc. Wikipedia is not a directory to group event venues by each amenity and having an organ is not defining to these articles about historic theatres. - RevelationDirect ( talk) 00:57, 10 July 2023 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:OCMISC
This is a textbook case of a miscellaneous category. Don't know what else I can add. - RevelationDirect ( talk) 00:57, 10 July 2023 (UTC) reply
  • Merge per nom. Marcocapelle ( talk) 04:34, 10 July 2023 (UTC) reply
  • Merge per nom. The fact that this does not include the Atatürk Museum (Thessaloniki) is unforgivable. Place Clichy ( talk) 13:54, 12 July 2023 (UTC) reply
Well, not quite. Category:Monuments and memorials and Category:Museums are siblings within Category:Buildings and structures by type; one is not a child of the other. We may say history museums do have a function to preserve memory, but I wouldn't call it a "memorial" or "monument" by definition. E.g. an art museum doesn't really serve as a "memorial" of a person or (tragic) event. And while a monument or memorial dedicated to a person is generally meant to celebrate, heroise or even deify that person, museums tend to be more critical and balanced, presenting a wide range of stories from several angles and perspectives. Although you can certaintly build museums that essentially serve as propaganda to glorify a single person, which may or may not be the case for several Category:Atatürk museums, I don't think an Atatürk museum in Greece (of all places) will be completely pro-Atatürk. Note that Until the Istanbul pogrom of 1955, the street in front of the house was named "Kemal Ataturk".. Nederlandse Leeuw ( talk) 16:04, 12 July 2023 (UTC) reply
