Delete Around half of the category are foreign recipients who received it as a diplomatic souvenir like

Rename as nom, except DRC per above comment. I'm all in favour of considering Taiwan as completely separate from China in about every aspect, however foreign relations is one of the very few fields where it relates to the outside world under the name of Republic of China. That is certainly the name used in the title of all these ambassadors, rather than e.g. the hypothetical ambassador of Taiwan. As a side note, as a result of the PRC's own one-China policy, these ambassadors are at any time the only ambassador representing China in their host country. Categories for ambassadors of the ROC should therefore be kept as a subcategory of Ambassadors of China to Foo, together with e.g. ambassadors from Ming, Qing or pre-1949 China.
Place Clichy (

Rename all to Taiwan. This is a follow-up to a discussion we had long since, when we decided that anything to do with the post-1949 Republic of China should be called "Taiwan", being the name commonly used for this polity. The use of Republic of China should now be confined to pre-1949 mainland China. Note there is only an overlap between 1945 and 1949, as Taiwan belonged to Japan previously.

"They're not regarded as countries." It depends on what you mean by "country". If you mean sovereign state, then that's true. But if you take the wider meaning as explained in
Country, then these dependent territories are countries. This is kind of a separate issue from whether these countries have separate nationalities.
Good Ol’factory(talk) 03:41, 7 May 2021 (UTC)reply
"It depends on what you mean by "country"." If you want to include in by country categories anything that falls under the wider definition of the word country including the
Basque Country,
Lake Country and the German
Länder, I think that would severely disrupt the category tree, and it is therefore pretty self-evident how this word should be understood. You sometimes find content in by country or by nationality relative to places such as
Bonaire that are not and have never been a country or dependent territory in their own right in any sense of the word; when I find them I usually move them to the dependent territories or appropriate child category.
Place Clichy (

Places like
Lake Country is not what I had in mind. I was thinking more of
Greenland, for instance. It's a dependent territory, but there are plenty of sources that describe it as a country. I imagine that the same holds for Puerto Rico. I would have no problem with the category system sorting them in by country categories.

Nominator's rationale: This award "is conferred to the Queen of Malaysia and newly appointed Malay rulers in his state. Fifteen, out of the total, are conferred on foreign princes, foreign Heads of State and other distinguished individuals."
