Function details: The bot finds talk pages of articles which warn users that the associated article uses a particular English variation. A list will be kept of which articles use which variation. As long as the engvar notice remains on the talk page of the article for a significant amount of time (probably longer than a week, to prevent the bot from acting on articles where consensus may not be clear and/or edit warring over the english variation is occuring), then the bot will create an edit notice for the associated article, warning all editors that the article uses an english variation. In the case that the article already has an edit notice page, the bot will add the warning if it is not already there, or it will skip the article and flag it for manual follow-up inspection later. Specifically, the bot will be checking the following categories:
As noted at Wikipedia:Bot requests/Archive 41/Archives/ 24#Bot to create edit notices for British English articles, I'm unconvinced that this is a good idea. Regardless, TeleComNasSprVen has suggested that the same effect could be achieved via a much simpler method not requiring the use of a bot. — David Levy 22:30, 2 May 2011 (UTC) reply
