Judoka who fails WP:GNG, WP:ATHLETE, and WP:NSPORTS. His rank is immaterial to notability and none of the coverage is significant and independent. It's either from the school newspaper or his club or refers to his daughter and son-in-law (and notability is not inherited). I found no evidence that he was ever the head coach of a U.S. national team. Being "a coach" is much different than being "the head coach" and even that claim needs independent sourcing. • Keep Undecided - CrazyAces489 that indicated this individual was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun. That's a fairly substantial award at any level and would position this article to meet WP:ANYBIO #1: The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor, or has been nominated for one several times. Is being awarded the fifth class of an award with six classes significant enough? Over 4000 people a year receive this award. [1] Jakejr ( talk) 00:59, 26 June 2015 (UTC) reply
Not really. The equivilent would be an MBE from the British government - not in itself noteworthy. Peter Rehse ( talk) 07:24, 26 June 2015 (UTC) reply
I agree his award doesn't make him inherently notable, but if he coached the US men and women's national team and won that award then this is an article I would flag as a marginal keep. Does he blow GNG out of the water? No, but I also don't think he fails it by a huge margin either. Mkdw talk 23:41, 26 June 2015 (UTC) reply
I also agree - but taking a bit more time to decide where exactly I stand. Peter Rehse ( talk) 08:28, 27 June 2015 (UTC) reply
Keep Recipient of Order of the Rising Sun (not common amongst foreigners to receive it, [2] shared in receiving the a Congressional Gold Medal, co founder of Judo Black Belt Federation, coach of first womens Worlds Championships in judo, coach of first Judo Medalist Jim Bregman. • Keep Combined there is enough for notability here although taken individually I would say borderline. The Congressional Medal of Honor was a unit citation but he was one of the few still around to make it to the award ceremony. Peter Rehse ( talk) 09:47, 28 June 2015 (UTC) reply
  • Weak Keep This required a bit of research to verify the claims and is a borderline call. It's a case where there's no one thing screams "keep", but a lot of things add up. I'd say, at the very least, there's enough to show it's not an obvious delete. The Order of the Rising Sun is given to many people, but it's relatively uncommon for foreigners. Coaching the women's judo team at the first women's world championships is a plus. The Congressional Gold Medal was shared with well over 20,000 others in the units making it of considerably less value in supporting notability (and simply being "one of the few still around to make it to the award ceremony" carries no weight). It's also confusing why a "civilian" award was given to combat troops. Being one of at least three coaches of Bregman during his first 3 years of judo also doesn't add a lot to Takemori's notability. A more nebulous plus is the regard with which he was held in the judo community. When I started researching this I was leaning towards a weak delete, but I found enough to support keeping this article (not enthusiastically, but a "keep" nonetheless).
