  • "Keep" passes GNG in statewide, regional coverage. (plus a first Af-Amer mayor) Djflem ( talk) 10:22, 27 April 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Delete The coverage is all local. Linden is not a major or inportant city, so being the first x mayor there is not a sign of notability. This is all routine and passing coverage, not at the level that would be needed to demonstrate a mayor is notable. John Pack Lambert ( talk) 14:17, 27 April 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Delete. "First member of an underrepresented equity group to do an otherwise non-notable thing" is not a notability freebie — had he been able to claim that he was the first African-American mayor in the entire United States, then we'd have something, but if all he can claim is that he was the first African-American mayor of his own small town, then that really doesn't get him anywhere in and of itself if he can't pass WP:NPOL the normal way. Rather, he has to clear our notability bar for smalltown mayors exactly the same way as any other smalltown mayor: by being able to show a depth and range and volume of sourcing that marks him out as much more special than most other smalltown mayors. But that's not what's on offer here: we have two primary sources (his "meet your mayor" profile on the municipal government's own self-published website and a government directory) that aren't support for notability at all, and just five hits of local coverage in contexts like the election campaign, scrapping a local garbage tax and serving on a local political committee, that are not notability clinchers if they're the best you can do. • Delete per above. Courrecx ( talk) 04:59, 28 April 2020 (UTC) Courrecx is a checkuser-confirmed sockpuppet and has been blocked indefinitely. -- Kinu  t/ c 18:53, 28 April 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Strong Keep - looking into recent stories, he has had quite the significance in various different ways, including widely covered COVID-19 related accusations, as well as a physical assault accusation that was covered broadly. definitely there is a lot that has not been included yet, but added some after some quick searching. citation problems can likely be re-sourced. also think that it is notable that he is the first African American mayor of the town, in any town that is notable.-- Gim0031 ( talk) 11:10, 29 April 2020 (UTC) reply
Not in an international encyclopedia, it's not: we don't care about every local first in every individual town and city. Every single town and city on earth always either has already had, or will eventually have, its own local firsts: first woman mayor, first LGBTQ mayor, first racial minority mayor, first disabled mayor, first mayor of every individual ethnic group, etc. — but we can't feasibly maintain articles about all of them, so we restrict ourselves to people who can legitimately claim that their historic status has national relevance. Bearcat ( talk) 21:32, 30 April 2020 (UTC) reply
I don't think it's notable that he made statements about COVID 19 or that he was involved in some assault case. That's regular news coverage. Practically every mayor in America has released a statement about COVID 19. If you want a list of mayors who have committed crimes, it's a long, long, long list; mayors generally aren't notable for committing crimes (like the assault mentioned) unless they receive wide coverage. • Delete, unless a redirect to the town's political section would also suffice. Arguments above about local coverage only hold water, and I failed to find other sorts of coverage. 67.243.20.177 ( talk) 11:53, 29 April 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Delete. All that exists is local coverage that does not suggest WP:NPOL is met. The claim that "first X to do Y" automatically gives notability is not justified if Y itself is not something notable. -- Kinu  t/ c 21:25, 30 April 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Weak delete - Linden is a city below what we'd normally include as a major city. Coverage in the media has been wide, but unsure if we'd call it "significant". Maybe WP:TOOSOON. Bearian ( talk) 02:07, 2 May 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Delete - unless/until someone can come up with more noteworthy sources. I didn't have much luck. The sources so far are all routine news coverage and don't make the subject notable. Covid 19 coverage isn't notable to me because it's just news nonsense, not encyclopedic. The most useful sources I found include:
https://observer.com/2015/03/linden-mayor-i-dont-trust-exxon-to-do-what-is-right/
https://www.foxnews.com/world/linden-n-j-policeman-emerges-a-hero-from-capture-of-bombing-suspect
https://www.silive.com/news/2015/03/linden_mayor_vows_probe_of_how.html
https://unionnewsdaily.com/headline-news/44321
and I don't think those are useful enough to create an article from. Therefore delete. Ikjbagl ( talk) 04:52, 4 May 2020 (UTC) reply
