Struggling to find any independent in-depth coverage in reliable sources - lack of WP:SIGCOV. Plenty of sources in the article, but they are trivial mentions or lack independence and/or reliability. Very promotional article. Edwardx ( talk) 11:37, 12 October 2017 (UTC) reply

  • Comment: Here is a nugget from the first version (11 October 2017, by Kaizenify):

Dayo was specially invited by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh to a private reception at Buckingham palace[1] as a result of his contribution to Africa Diaspora Development, the only ever recipient of the Young PEWA (Person Earnestly Working for Africa) Award at the office of the Mayor of London[2]. He was also invited by the Obama Administration to the White House President’s Forum for Young African Leaders in Washington DC and an Alumnus of the US State Department International Visitors Leadership Program that has produced over 400 Heads of Government globally.

Now let's turn to " Meet the young man Lagos Mainland is clamouring for as their Incoming Chairman", "by Linda Ikeji at 01/05/2017 10:12 AM" and thus five (or possibly nine) months earlier. This tells us:

He was specially invited by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh to a private reception at Buckingham palace as a result of his contribution to Africa Diaspora Development, the only ever recipient of the Young PEWA (Person Earnestly Working for Africa) Award at the office of the Mayor of London. He was also invited by the Obama Administration to the White House President?s Forum for Young African Leaders in Washington DC and an Alumnus of the US State Department International Visitors Leadership Program that has produced over 400 Heads of Government globally.

Remarkably similar, no? And Ikeji's article tells us "This is a sponsored post...". It seems to me that the Wikipedia article just recycled Israel's auto-hagiography. Poor Lopifalko has thereafter been polishing a t— I mean, something that doesn't merit the polishing. -- Hoary ( talk) 14:06, 13 October 2017 (UTC) reply

Lopifalko, that was very selfless of you; but I think that your (considerable) patience and skillz are wasted on this one! -- Hoary ( talk) 23:19, 13 October 2017 (UTC) reply
@ User:Hoary, Thank you for your observation but this doesn't change anything about the subject not satisfy WP:ANYBIO and WP:BASIC to be eligible on the English wikipedia.. Linda Ikaji Blog is purely a sponsor blog with no editorial oversight and hence wasn't included atall as a reference. Linda Ikeji blog only picked the subject profile form his personal website to post and that doesn't mean they are not true. Besides recent edits from Lopifalko and other experienced editors have further corrected those wrong impressions. So the debate should be that: the subject as of now(after all corrections) if it satisfy WP:BASIC or not and not judging it from its former form. Thanks . Kaizenify ( talk) 14:50, 13 October 2017 (UTC) reply
re - Mirror news and other various sources mention [1]here that the visit was held in April 10 2016.. That's long before Linda Ikaji pick it up to report. Thanks Kaizenify ( talk) 15:11, 13 October 2017 (UTC) reply
Ikeji's recycling of this publicity junk most likely had a financial motive. What was your motive, Kaizenify? If you actually believed that it was of encyclopedic value, you were seriously deluded. But yes, let's look at the "source" you most recently offer, here in this AfD page: 'Admin. "Queen Elizabeth II Hosts Obasanjo, Kofi Anan, Dayo Israel, Others At Commonwealth Africa Summit". Mirror news. Retrieved 13 October 2017.' The text of the story, by "McYodel", is a little confused (and pretty boring), so let's first look at its (many) photos. A lot of them show Obasanjo and the others. Only one of them, I think, shows QE2. None of them shows both Obasanjo (or the others) and QE2. Why not? Simple! QE2 did not host anyone. To quote the article: "Other special guests at the weeklong activity included Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II...." So Israel and QE2 were fellow-guests. Or rather, they were fellow-guests if the article you cite is worth taking seriously. What is currently the latest article by "McYodel" is " Wife of Ghana’s Vice President, Samira Bawumia Is Gorgeous!!!" ("Vice president Mahamudu Bawumia’s wife, Samira Bawumia was all shades of stunning during the 60th Independence anniversary of Ghana"). No Nigerian Mirror is mentioned in Mirror (disambiguation); but its website shows that it's a mere tabloid (with or without a print version). So you're now appealing to the junk headline of a humdrum story from a junk publisher. Not good enough. -- Hoary ( talk) 23:16, 13 October 2017 (UTC) reply
@ User:Hoary, thank you very much but at this junction I will have to avoid joining issues with you as it is obvious that your comments are offtrack as regard if the subject meet WP:BASIC or WP:ANYBIO or not. Citing Linda Ikeji financial motive in this context is off track as she was never included in the references from on-set and even when the promotion was done on her website, it was purely on the bases to seek the electorates votes during the electioneering period which is over now so asking for my motive now for creating the subject is really petty. And hence without any further interference I beseech any other volunteer editor to go through the subject Dayo Israel after all the adjustments and see if it is worthy of an encyclopedia first before driving at conclusions. Thanks added at 00:09, 14 October 2017 by Kaizenify
Okay, Kaizenify, I shall try to put aside pettiness. What is Israel's foremost claim to notability, and what is the best source that you can proffer for this claim? -- Hoary ( talk) 01:16, 14 October 2017 (UTC) reply
alright user:Hoary, thanks for the heads up. Ok, so quickly for the sake of other editors that will want to reach a consensus and to satisfy your request. I will mention my claim to the subject notability whilst still touching some references. Its unfortunate that some of the references I could have used are dead now but never the less this will still work. First to satisfy the subject passing WP:BASIC which suggest that having being covered by multiple sec sources and primary sources: [2] which was published in 2012, also [3] talked about the subject biography, lastly [4] (and many other sources) talked about how the subject led the Nigeria Delegation to the Commonwealth Day and Nigeria's Centennial Celebration in London which is worthy of notability. Secondly: the subject also satisfy WP:ANYBIO as he won multiple awards like GAB award, PEWA, nominated on three different occasions for The Future Awards, also recently mention as part of the '100 most influential African' by Africa Youth Awards and lastly satisfy the clause for WP:ANYBIO that 'the person will have made a widely recognized contribution his or her specific field' which for this subject is Advocacy(field) and has been on the forefront since 8years old having featured on CNN, Ben TV e.t.c. Thanks once again. This is how relative I can give myself to answer your query. Kaizenify ( talk) 02:59, 14 October 2017 (UTC) reply
Slightly reformatting your comment above:
"Elegbede, Tayo. "He was at the forefront of the Child Rights Act". Your Commonwealth. Retrieved 14 October 2017. [1] which was published in 2012, also Edozie, Udeze. "Why I am in Lagos Mainland race'". The Nations. Retrieved 14 October 2017. [2] talked about the subject biography, lastly "General Gowon, Dayo Israel, Onari Duke, Onyeka Onwenu, Governor Oshiomole attend Commonwealth Day Observance in London". The Nigerian Voice. Retrieved 14 October 2017. [3] (and many other sources) talked about how the subject led the Nigeria Delegation to the Commonwealth Day and Nigeria's Centennial Celebration in London which is worthy of notability."
The first of these three says little about what he has done. It does say that he "was at the forefront of passing the Child Rights Act into law in Nigeria in 2003" but it says nothing about what this being-in-the-forefront actually consisted of. (Also, was he alone at the forefront, or was he one of a hundred people at the forefront?) The second uncritically recycles what Israel said (or wrote in email, or whatever). Contrary to what you say, the second doesn't mention either "centennial" or "commonwealth". And all we learn about Israel in the third is "GLEEHD Foundation's Nigeria Director, Dayo Israel leads the Nigeria Delegation to the Commonwealth Day Observance Service and Nigeria's Centennial Celebration in London." All I infer is that Israel is somebody who gets invited to things. This is not impressive. -- Hoary ( talk) 06:54, 14 October 2017 (UTC) reply
@Hoary, its funny how you drive to your conclusions saying the second reference raised is however a product of Israel mail; to think that the supposedly news media is The Nations Newspaper, one of the leading tabloid in Nigeria. Anyway, its obvious that you are more of the 'destructive' side of this subject rather than 'constructive' and hence halt my writings here as regard the subject. I hope editors from Nigeria who understand the jurdisction of improving Nigeria content on the English wikipedia amidst challenges like dead links, improper journalism coverage e.t.c. will see to it that the subject satisfy WP:ANYBIO and WP:BASIC notability criteria. • I haven't opened Google to check if it passes WP:GNG but I have read the article, and what I noticed is that, so many things are being said without sufficient inline citations. For example, the statement on him being the special assistant at the National Assembly. Special assistant on what? Is the information on the national assembly website? then, on the awards won/nom, I see you said he was nominated/won The Future Awards thrice, could you provide sources for that? Lastly, it was stated that United Nations listed him as one of the "100 Most Influential People of African Descent" in 2017, I need a source for this too. The quality of your reply will determine the direction of my !vote. Darreg ( talk) 00:05, 15 October 2017 (UTC) reply
alright Darreg. Your concerns are valid. First on being a special assistant to the national assembly: Punch Newspaper mention here during an interview that he was Senior Special Assistant to Senator Jide Omoworare, also YNaija mentioned here in an interview aswell. And the next as regard being nominated or or winning awards: first this newsmedia reported here that he was selected as part of 100 most influential africans, this also said that he was named 'one of Africa's Top 30 Most Inspirational young people'.. He was reported here that Israel was also a finalist for The Future Awards Young Person of the Year alongside Genevieve Nnaji and D’banj in 2007 and here, here highlighted this. Here is the link for GAB award. Kaizenify ( talk) 17:38, 15 October 2017 (UTC) reply
  • Comment: I am suspicious of the claim of notability. The article claims he is the chair of this and the director of that, but nothing about what he has actually done in those roles. As Darreg points out, if at least even each of the claims of membership of organisations was supported by a reliable ref, then that would go far in allaying my suspicion. I have not read any wider on him than the article. I lack an understanding of the context of his country or his profession, but my potentially ill founded suspicion is that his notability comes from merely his trying to seem notable, by putting his name to as many talking shops as possible. - Lopifalko ( talk) 13:16, 15 October 2017 (UTC) reply
  • Delete attending a reception with the Queen of England is not a sign of notability. Nor is making a bid for a political office. John Pack Lambert ( talk) 03:55, 16 October 2017 (UTC) reply
  • Delete as the references provided do not support claims to GNG. It is claimed that Dayo Israel is a 1) social entrepreneur, 2) an advisor to governments, 3) international development specialist, 4) international speaker, 5) preacher and 6) youth activist in the lede. Additionally, it is claimed that he is a 7) business man, 8) activist, 9) social entrepreneur, and 10) lawyer in the infobox. If it can be shown that he is notable for his achievements in any one of these ten fields, I would support his inclusion in the encyclopedia. There are now 17 refs provided, but here are the problems:
Ref 1. The Ynaija interview only quotes Mr. Israel and does not add any independent research. As such it is effectively a self-published source and not verifiable.
Ref 2. Similarly, the Punch interview also goes no further than quoting Mr. Israel.
Ref 3. The Youth Hub Africa blog feature does mention his history of starting a children's rights organization (GAAVOHCR - possibly notable) at age 11 and being sponsored as a delegate to attend two UN conferences. Attendance alone however, is not notable enough to warrant an encyclopedia.
Ref 4. The Vivacity PR (Public Relations) blog page states Mr. Israel was the GLEEHD Foundation's Nigeria Director, and headed the Nigerian delegation on a visit to London, but a blog is not a WP:RS and going to meetings (even at Buckingham Palace) does not infer any inherent notabilty.
Ref 5. The Handle It Africa page is a self-published (or written) publicity site, not RS.
Ref 6. Is the text of a speech he gave to STM. SPS, not RS.
Ref 7. Only states that he was "active" in civil society activities - nothing notable.
Ref 8. The London Metropolitan University alumni profile is RS and supports his educational achievements (LLB, MA). It also mentions Dayo's own television show (possibly notable).
Ref 9. Is his own website, not RS.
Ref 10. Naij.com probably RS, but participating in a youth parliament and leading a visit by children to the UN does not make him notable.
Ref 11. Konnect Africa re-hashes the other websites.
Ref 12. Daily Media reads like a CV, not independent journalism.
Ref 13. Another Punch interview, essentially SPS.
Ref 14-18. It is not notable to have declared an intent to run for office and then fail to be nominated by the party for the ticket.
All in all, an interesting individual and potentially notable but does not provide notability sources for any of his stated professions. Being a motivational speaker, going to meetings with important people or organizations and declaring an ambition to run for office is not enough to have a Wikipedia page. • Delete This article is clearly work of PR managers or undisclosed paid editors. It has multiple issues violating Wikipedia core policies. First it is indisputably promotional and violates WP:NPOV. Secondly the subject though may pass WP:GNG is not notable for anything visible again. This can be seen through unreasonable, excessive Namedropping and WP:PEACOCK terms used in order to create notability. This is in every paragraph of the article. Moreover, the subject don't have any widely known image that is detailed in historical record of his life except, "he met Obama", " He met Elizabeth" and whatnot. This article should be speedily deleted – Ammarpad ( talk) 18:35, 18 October 2017 (UTC) reply
  • Although my opinion of the article is hardly higher than yours, Ammarpad, your call for speedy deletion puzzles me. Which criterion would you cite for this? (I might have cited copyright violation, but this is something you don't mention.) -- Hoary ( talk) 22:45, 18 October 2017 (UTC) reply
  • @ Hoary: Well, I understand my last sentence is little bit ambiguous (so I don't blame you for (mis)understanding it the way you did). I already stated my formal stance with bolded Opening Delete and that is what counts in consensus. My speedy delete phrase at the end doesn't mean Wikipedia concept of deleting materials swiftly after meeting certain criterion, but meant to emphasize my conviction that it should be speedily deleted for violating multiple Wikipedia core policies. I hope I make myself clear. I also struck the word. Thanks - Ammarpad ( talk) 08:14, 19 October 2017 (UTC) reply
  • Delete. Even with the sources that Kaizenify provides, I still see just titles with no indication of what Israel has actually achieved in those roles that is notable. This description of him from here sums things up well I believe (my emphasis added): "Dayo Isreal is a United Nations Ambassador and an internationally recognized personality who has appeared on countless television interviews, commercials, talk shows and radio programs. He has met and addressed so many world leaders like...", and continues with a long list of notable people. - Lopifalko ( talk) 07:14, 19 October 2017 (UTC) reply

*Delete. Being invited to notable places, rubbing elbows with notable people or doing good deeds don't make one notable. Significant coverage by reliable sources does and that's what is lacking here. Niteshift36 ( talk) 20:04, 19 October 2017 (UTC) reply
