The result was redirect to Canada at the 1936 Summer Olympics#Rowing. Consensus is he is not notable enough for a standalone article, and this seemed to be the preferred target. Star Mississippi 23:17, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

The basic reason for this is that in October of 2021 it was decided that only medalist in the Olympics are default notable for that, other people need to pass other criteria and in general meet GNG. First off the two sources here are one that is so broad and ultra-inclusive that it cannot be used to add towards notability, and another that is far as I can tell a blog. In that particular blog the one mention of this person is buried and mentions he died. Aside from the fact that he was a member of the Leander Boat Club of Hamilton, we have no leads on his later life or when and where he might have died.] I did the search of google, google books, google scholar, google news and google news archives and was not able to find any more information and unable to find even one source on Matteson that would lead to his passing GNG. - First, Olympians are not inherently notable. Second, claiming that it's unlikely that significant coverage will ever be found is not a convincing rationale for keeping an article.

- Delete. Unable to find any significant coverage, so fails GNG. Redirecting to an event article that contains virtually no information about the subject serves no purpose; and if coverage can be found, it is unlikely that one unremarkable Olympic appearance would be his crowning achievement as a rower. A valid ATD would be merge/redirect to an appropriate list, e.g. List of Canadian rowers or List of Canadian Olympic rowers, but such no lists exist. wjemather please leave a message... 09:32, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

- To be clear (for those who cannot view it), the source I added does not contain any significant coverage - it is nothing more than a photo of the crew (with a caption which states they were from the Leander club). Exactly the same detail appears in a couple of newspapers, but it is pretty much the limit of coverage I found on Newspapers.com. wjemather please leave a message... 18:20, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
