Most visitors to Mauritania may obtain a visa on arrival to Mauritania, unless they are a national of one of the visa-exempt countries.

Nationals of any country with a diplomatic passport except
Italy do not require a visa.
Holders of passports issued by any country can obtain a visa on arrival at any international airport, [4] such as Nouakchott–Oumtounsy International Airport, [2] as well as any land border crossing. [4] However, according to Timatic, nationals of Syria are ineligible to obtain a visa on arrival, and must obtain prior confirmation from the Direction General of National Security (DGSN) in order to enter Mauritania. As of June 2023, the Embassy of Mauritania in Tokyo does not issue visas; it instead directs prospective applicants to obtain a visa on arrival in Mauritania. [4]
