Procedural mistake?

Hello. Considering this redirect, there seems to be a procedural mistake resulting in an inconsistent redirect on this talk page. Chicbyaccident ( talk) 11:56, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

That looks like the result of JFG's recent move of the article to Catholicity, per the RM discussion on the talkpage. Yunshui  11:58, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
Where is the discussion about a talk page redirect separate from that of the main page, please? Chicbyaccident ( talk) 12:08, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
Ah, no, I see what you mean now. Fixed. Yunshui  12:26, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Your opinion about an unblock request would be welcome

Hi, Cloud Water. A couple of days ago you put a spamusername block on an account called Discoveryorkshirecoast. The editor then created a new account called RegHann, apparently in good faith, having taken a comment from an administrator in an unblock request as meaning that he was free to edit provided he created an individual account rather than continuing wit the existing corporate account. I have blocked the account, but he appears to be willing to change his practices, and has posted a de-spammed version of his draft article at User talk:RegHann. The draft is far from ready to be an article, but it is not in the same league of blatant marketing copy as the pages that you deleted ( [1], [2], [3]).

In the interest of giving a chance to a good faith new editor I am considering unblocking, even though the editor has a way to go in learning how to fit into Wikipedia, and I honestly don't know whether he will ever get there or not. Although this would be lifting my own block on the account, it would be unblocking an editor that you blocked, and I would be grateful if you would give me your opinion on whether we should unblock. (Or just unblock yourself if you think it appropriate to unblock.) The editor who uses the pseudonym " JamesBWatson" ( talk) 12:46, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, the "new" text he has provided has been largely copied without attribution from Welcome to Yorkshire - so add copyvios to the list of infractions as well. Honestly, I do not see that Wikipedia gains anything by allowing this user to edit. I'm not in favour of unblocking; I won't contest it if you choose to do so (you're a nice guy, I'm kinda not!) but I have serious reservations about letting him back. Yunshui  13:36, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for giving me your opinion. I know from past experience that in such cases I tend to be more willing than most administrators to give a second chance, but I have thought carefully about what you have said, and also about other issues, and decided there are enough negatives that I am not going to unblock. The editor who uses the pseudonym " JamesBWatson" ( talk) 10:25, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

hi its me mardon146

the user hamzaali124 sended me some messages to help him why you are not helping him at least unban his editing or lift his editing ban so he can make an unblock appeal

Replied (cross-posted, actually) on your talkpage. Yunshui  15:30, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

thank you i understand what you are saying
but this user asking me help help her and he claims that he is apatient of mental illness and depression i understand it that what you said i apologize for that

Please don't create new talkpage headings when continuing a conversation. The user in question is not currently permitted to edit Wikipedia; that includes evading the block to ask you for help on your talkpage. They have one avenue of appeal, which is WP:UTRS. They are aware of this. You do not need to involve yourself with this user, nor do they need you to advocate on their behalf. Yunshui  15:36, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Nice ec

Never seen an OS conflict with an edit before, got very confused when "what changed" was the entire page. I thought someone had blanked it! Primefac ( talk) 15:53, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Always nice to have a new experience, hope you enjoyed it! Yunshui  15:54, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, right up until I realized that I was actually editing their user page.
To continue the train of thought - was that last OS meant to be for the edit summary? Otherwise it looks like you didn't actually do anything to affect what's visible. Primefac ( talk) 15:58, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Editor 2050

Hi, what is this block about, paid editing you say, on what? Looking through his editing history he doesn't fit the bill of a typical paid editor. I found some serious copyvios though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:53, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

I posted a note about it on his talkpage a little while ago - the evidence was provided via OTRS. Yunshui  08:54, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
Hmm...Pretty clear-cut mess and a good block.Denial isn't going to help either. Winged Blades Godric 11:49, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
I don't know what other info I could provide. Most of my run-ins are cataloged on his talk page. While I did approach him numerous times about some edits that seemed promotional (summarising a film's critical response without referencing, or using hyperbolic language "very positive", and "unanimous praise"), the instances of this were fairly rare, and he wasn't on my radar as a disruptive user. Rather, I figured he was part of the small clique of Indian editors who work hard and well around the project. Felt kinda bad about busting his chops sometimes, so I tiptoed in my responses a bit so as not to be too discouraging. He did create an article in 2012, Y NOT Studios, which was significantly edited between April 2017 and September 2017 by the company's CEO and contained fluffy language and POV, but I didn't think that Editor 2050 was being paid. Yunshui, any way you could email me some of the details on this, please? Also, Should this guy be blocked for username violation? Seems like an impostor account, particularly when they admit to being inspired by 2050. (2050 warns them not to edit with bias or promotional slant.) Regards, Cyphoidbomb ( talk) 15:18, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
It looks very much as though Editor3050 is a sockpuppet of Passion1000 (neither of them appear remotely related to Editor 2050 from a technical perspective, incidentally) so I have blocked both accounts. Cyphoidbomb, I'll email you momentarily. Yunshui  15:27, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

Interaction Timeline alpha demo is ready for testing

Hello,

The Interaction Timeline alpha version is ready for testing. The Anti-Harassment Tools team appreciates you spending a few minutes to try out the tool and let us know if there is value in displaying the interactions in a vertical timeline instead of the approach used with the existing interaction analysis tools.

Also we interested in learning about which additional functionality or information we should prioritize developing.

Comments can be left on the discussion page here or on meta. Or you can share your ideas by email.

Thank you,

Please consider re-running for ArbCom

You are an excellent, knowledgeable, fair-minded, neutral admin, and were an excellent Arb. The community needs more, and experienced, and neutral, candidates to choose from. Please consider re-running. Softlavender ( talk) 08:54, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Wow, conflicting emotions... on the one hand, "Oh, that's kind, thank you!". On the other hand, "AW, HELL NO!" I found ArbCom to be soul-destroying; the constant abuse and questioning of our decisions was perfectly fine - expected, in fact - but what I wasn't expecting was the degree to which Arbing exposes you to the very dregs of human activity; so much of what we had to look through just made me despair of our species. I appreciate the vote of confidence, but given that I got so depressed dealing with that shit last time around that I quit Wikipedia for a year (there were RL factors involved in that as well, but being on ArbCom was the shitty icing on an already turd-flavoured cake) I'll pass, thanks. Besides, I'm on the electoral commission this year, so couldn't run even if I wanted to. Nevertheless - thanks for the compliment! Yunshui  09:05, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

List of foreign Chinese Super League players

Hi Yunshui. Would you mind watching List of foreign Chinese Super League players for awhile? Cp6379 keeps re-adding flag icons to section headings, even though the icons have been removed multiple times by myself and S.A. Julio per MOS:HEAD. Even though S.A. Julio posted a message on the editor's user talk, and I posted something on the article's talk page, the editor either does not understand the posts or is simply ignoring them. I just removed the icons again and left another message on the article's talk page, so hopefully this will no longer be an issue. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 09:28, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Little star icon duly clicked... adding it to the almost-9,000 articles I've got an eye on... Yunshui  09:30, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

@ Yoninah: Sorry, it didn't look as though there was any response required from me there. You don't approve of my hook, you've suggested a new one - the next step is presumably for somebody else to re-review it with regards to the new hook, no? Yunshui  08:41, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
OK. I thought you might have an opinion on the new hook, but if not, I'll ask for another reviewer. Yoninah ( talk) 11:14, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Ayumu Matsuo

Hi Yunshui. I'm wondering if you would mind looking at Ayumu Matsuo. This RPP (it's already been declined) seems to be a good faith misunderstanding of what actually happened: there's not only been no IP edits to the article, there's also been no vandalism of any kind by anyone.

Honyarism is "new" editor who has been trying to add content to Ayumu Matsuo, but unfortunately the content has problems so it has been removed/moved to the talk page for further discussion. The editor also has uploaded a copyvio to Commons to try and use in the article, but that has been removed as well. I've tried to discuss these things on the article's talk as well as the editor's user talk (apparently what I posted is considered a " personal attack message"), but so far no response.

Anyway, I don't really want to bite since I do think this was a good faith attempt to improve the article, I just don't think that a verbatim attempt to translate content from the Japanese Wikipedia article is such a good idea because (1) almost all that content is unsourced (Japanese Wikipedia's standards typically seem to be less vigorous than WP:BLP), (2) the translation was too literal and the English had some other problems, and (3) most of the person life section content was based on primary or self-pub type of sources and seem more gossipy than encyclopedic.

I thought about trying to communicate with this editor in Japanese, but it is after all English Wikipedia and I think it would be better for things to be conducted in English as much as possible. I also thought about adding Template:Welcomeen-ja, but that sometimes can be taken the wrong way. Since you're an admin/OTRS rep, play shogi (going by your userbox), have an interest in things Japanese/understand Japanese, and most improtantly have offered me good advice in the past with respect to things Wikipedia, I figured I'd ask for your advice yet once again. I certainly don't want to discourage this editor from contributing, and do not see my posts as "personal attack messages" in any way. I would rather try and figure out a way to best incorporate this editor's contributions into the article, but I do think a little better editorial judgment is needed on their part. I also think it's a bit unusual for who made just one edit before yesterday to know enough to go to WP:RPP, but I'm not sure if that's worth trying to examine any deeper right at this moment. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 22:20, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

I get the distinct impression that his tenure here is not going to be a long one, but I'll swing by his talkpage and try and give him a third opinion, so to speak. Yunshui  12:20, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

Biography deleted - Gerald Wingrove

Can you please explain why my editing of my biography was deleted as it was only an update and elaboration on what was already there It did not meet with A7 as all independent and reliable sources were included It ddi not meet with G11 as it is not advertising anything - I am 83 and retired - only facts are stated and references to others opinions are provided with links, further evidence is also offered.

There is mention that an e-mail has been sent on the 30th of November 0 late on the 1st of December, none has been received. Please resend to gaw@wworkshop.net If you want copy pages to verify the the Forward's to the two books, I am please to send them on to you'

Thank yu for your time, Gerald A. Wingrove MBE

Your additions were quite simply the worst sort of self-promoting claptrap imaginable. Wikipedia is not your personal website for you to list every endorsement anyone has aimed your way; if you continue to use this site for self-promotion you will be blocked from editing. The only reason I have restored the page at all is that an editor whom I respect requested it; I see you have since smeared it with the same shameless advertising as before. Yunshui  09:10, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi, can I get a restoration on this page please. It's a long established page and although I'd noted the recent additions by the likely subject GAWingrove, that's no grounds for either A7 or G11. He's been clearly notable since UK TV coverage in the '70s and any recent promotion could at most have been reverted, rather than the whole article deleted. Clearly the recent changes needed copyediting for the usual new editor cleanup, but that's no need for deletion. Thanks Andy Dingley ( talk) 11:46, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

@ Andy Dingley: You're absolutely right, of course - that was a bad call on my part. I've restored everything except the last couple of revisions. Yunshui  11:59, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Could I get the recent additions back too please. I'd been waiting for their changes to stabilise a bit, and was then going to copyedit as needed. Andy Dingley ( talk) 12:35, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Sure, if you like. I don't see a lot there that would be usable, but they're in the history now. Yunshui  12:37, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Andy Dingley ( talk) 13:23, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Aaaand now it's a hideous festival of vanispamcruftisement again. @ Andy Dingley:, shall I leave that mess for you to clean up? Yunshui  09:06, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry about that. I haven't had a working computer for some days and it's chaos here, especially as I'm supposed to be deep in the Christmas rush for orders. Andy Dingley ( talk) 10:41, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
No worries. I've got a spare fifteen minutes or so, I'll go sort it out. Yunshui  11:48, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Robert Sickinger

On 5 December 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Robert Sickinger, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Robert Sickinger, the father of Chicago's "off-Loop" theater scene, ended up running a telemarketing company? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Robert Sickinger. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page ( here's how, Robert Sickinger), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

File licensing question

Hi Yunshui. I'm wondering if you can clarify something about a file's licensing at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2017 November 30#Dragonchess images since you are an OTRS volunteer. The uploader states he has received email permission to upload and license some images for use on Wikipedia, but the license he chose cannot be verified at the source. The files are a bit old, but I don't think are old enough to qualify as "pre-OTRS" files. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 21:50, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Already commented - basically OTRS need permission from the licence holder; it's extremely rare (as in: I've-never-seen-it-happen rare) that we'll accept "second-hand" permissions. Yunshui  09:01, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for clarifying things in that thread. I tend to post too much detail sometimes which can actually be more confusing than helpful. Anyway, things seem to moving towards a amicable resolution based upon the other editor's response. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 01:57, 5 December 2017 (UTC)
No problem. I hope we do get to use those pictures, they are rather splendid. I should really get into Dragonchess, seeing as how it combine two of my favourite pastimes... seems like every time I cross paths with IHTS I learn about some cool new boardgame that I want to try out... Disclosure

Hi Yunshui, I was thinking about Siddhant2709's block. They were indeffed for a TOS violation, namely not disclosing their paid status, but they did admit to being an employee of the company here and here and here. I don't know too much about the policy because (not surprisingly,) most paid editors don't actually disclose, but per WP:COIPAYDISCLOSE it says: "Editors who are compensated for their contributions must disclose their employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any paid contributions. They must do this on their main user page, or on the talk page accompanying any paid contributions, or in edit summaries." I don't know if that means they must disclose in every edit summary related to that subject or what. Anyway, I was curious about your perspective on this. Regards, Cyphoidbomb ( talk) 16:39, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

The element of the ToU from which WP:PAID is derived states that if you go the edit summary route, disclosure is required as a statement in the edit summary accompanying any paid contributions (emphasis mine). If a paid contributor chooses this approach and fails to disclose in the summary of every edit they make regarding the COI topic, they are violating the terms of use; ergo, blocked... Yunshui  16:53, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
Agreed. I've left them a longer note on their talk page (hopefully you don't mind), giving them some suggestions and pointing them explicitly to WP:PAID which they probably didn't know about before. The talk page disclosure is so much easier for everyone involved, I honestly wish the edit summary option wasn't even there. I'm hopeful, but not confident that Siddhant2709 will be able to convince you they can be a productive editor. Too often I've seen someone from the company get involved that may have a bit of understanding, but their boss doesn't and that puts them in a really tough situation. Ravensfire ( talk) 17:01, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
I don't mind in the slightest, it was a good message you left them. Agree with you about the edit summary option; personally I much prefer the userpage notice as a disclosure; easier for both the editor in question and for anyone reviewing their edits. Just as an aside, it's not me they have to convince, necessarily; any admin who thinks they would be an asset to Wikipedia rather than a detriment can lift the block. Yunshui  08:42, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

Histmerge? Speedy delete and bold move? Simple overwrite and RM?

Sorry to ask a weird question, but do you know the procedure for cases like this? Basically I accidentally created an article on a topic that already had one, but I'm convinced the title I chose is superior to the one that already existed, and now I can't fix the problem without an admin's help. I'm not sure whether the correct procedure would be to

  • (a) merge the articles myself under the old title and request that the redirect under the new title be speedy-deleted so I can BOLD-move the page myself,
  • (b) merge the articles and then open an RM toward the new title,
  • (c) request a histmerge,
  • (d) merge the articles under the new title and redirect the old title as though the article never existed before last month, or
  • (e) merge under the old title and just forget about it because orthographic differences don't matter.

Option (e) doesn't work for me since Keene writes it the new way and the sources in the old article are mostly garbage that post-date the English Wikipedia article (so I suspect there might be circular sourcing going on with the spelling. (d) feels like a violation of some policy, even though technically attribution would be preserved because honestly there isn't much in the old article worth keeping (some of the content is verifiable, but it would need to be rewritten anyway). (c) is a process I know literally nothing about, and the process page is ambiguous as to whether it can only be done in case of cut-paste moves, which this isn't.

I don't have a personal preference between (a) and (b), but with the exception of (c) all of them require a sysop to do something and I'm honestly not sure which is procedurally superior.

As for the reason I came to you rather than either Bishonen or Alex or Drmies -- the answer's to all of them are coincidentally visible on Bish's talk page at the moment.

Hijiri 88 ( やや) 09:55, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

A merge and redirect would seem to be the most straightforward solution. I'm not a fan of histmerging unless it has to be done (it can get pretty messy, and I'm not ashamed to say I've cocked it up at least once), and it doesn't seem to be necessary here. Which way the redirect goes is another matter - I'd suggest you either work towards a clear consensus in the existing discussion (it still looks as though there's some debate at present) or alternatively merge your article to the older title and then start a RM discussion.
But hey, that's just me - YMMV and my word is a long way from gospel. Yunshui  10:25, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new section has been added to the username policy which disallows usernames containing emoji, emoticons or otherwise "decorative" usernames, and usernames that use any non-language symbols. Administrators should discuss issues related to these types of usernames before blocking.

Miscellaneous

  • Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It is requested that all administrators take some time during this month to help clear backlogs wherever possible. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.
  • The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative is conducting a survey for English Wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works (i.e. which problems it deals with well and which problems it struggles with). If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be emailed to you via Special:EmailUser.

Hillbark Hotels

Hello. I wanted to bring it to your attention that I have a user telling me that Hill Bark should actually be Hillbark and that our misspelling of it is affecting searches. The name of the user who brought this to my attention is user:81.133.142.220. 16:44, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

The only reliable sources used for the information in the article use "Hill Bark", so that is what Wikipedia uses. We don't give a damn about the hotel's SEO rankings; we are an encyclopedia, not a marketing platform. If they've chosen to contract the name of their company, good for them; it doesn't affect the fact that the house - which is the subject of the article - is called Hill Bark, not Hillbark. The art

Thank you for Morihei Ueshiba, "the Japanese martial artist who founded the art of aikido."! -- Gerda Arendt ( talk) 08:40, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Thank you Gerda. Good to see it's already getting vandalised; nothing says "quality" like a slew of IPs randomly deleting stuff. Yunshui  09:11, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
I just started looking at my watch list, will help watching ;) - I have a singer on the same page, DYK? I saw the pictured scene (the photographer was more interested in the woman). Couldn't believe that he had no article, and am sad that I didn't write it while he was still alive. -- Gerda Arendt ( talk) 09:36, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
Interesting article (but which of the two men in the picture is he? I'm assuming the one on the right...). Yunshui  10:03, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
No, sorry, - you probably have to know the story. We see him from behind, Siegfried, who has forgotten (by some magic potion) that the woman facing him (Brünnhilde) is his wife, and is dressed up for his wedding to another. She (played by Gwyneth Jones) can't believe what she has to see. The image was part of Talk:Götterdämmerung, when I was pleading, back in 2013. -- Gerda Arendt ( talk) 10:34, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

2018 just around the corner...

It's that time of the year, Yunsh. No fancy template, but just wishing you all the best for the holidays and the new year, and thanking you for all you do. It's probably a lot warmer where I am than where you are 😎 Kudpung กุดผึ้ง ( talk) 08:53, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

Cheers Kudpung. Right back at you as well. Assuming you're not enjoying a pleasant sojourn in Lapland right now, yes, I daresay you are somewhat toastier than me. But it's the warmth in our hearts that truly counts, and untemplated seasonal greetings certainly provide that! Yunshui  09:01, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

Mahfuzur Rahman Miftahi

In light of your recent delete of the page, Mahfuzur Rahman, the user has created the same article in mainspace with same content. Ernestchuajiasheng ( talk) 16:50, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

Looks to have been dealt with already, but thanks for letting me know. Yunshui  08:21, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Slowburn indeed

Thank you for this [4]. While I was dealing with the recent promotional onslaught, I completely missed the longer term appropriation. Cheers, 2601:188:180:11F0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 ( talk) 18:31, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Pretty sneaky, wasn't it? Still, I think there are now enough eyes on the page that they won't be able to do that again. Yunshui  08:22, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Possible sockpuppet

Hello Yunshui, I just noticed your unblocked user Ayeshna3194 a few months back who was blocked by SpacemanSpiff as a sockpuppet of Sanghvi6722, I just notice a day after SpacemanSpiff blokced Ayeshna3194 user Nexa9911 was registered who recreated same article earlier created by Sanghvi6722 and repeating same behaviour in AfD. I believe he is either a sockpuppet of Sanghvi6722 or Ayeshna3194 as per his behaviour so can you please take a look. Thank you – GSS ( talk| c| em) 19:47, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

Seems to have already been handled; thank you for the message, though. Yunshui  08:23, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Indefinite blocks

I ask you to impose an Indefinite blocks on me. -- Vyacheslav84 ( talk) 12:10, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Again? Make your mind up... it looks as though someone else has already heeded your plea. Yunshui  08:23, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui. Would you please move this speedily deleted entry to my draft space? I'd like tp have a look at it and see what was there and if it might be worth building on. Thanks very much. FloridaArmy ( talk) 19:55, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

@ FloridaArmy: There's not much to restore, but what there was is now at User:FloridaArmy/Angela Nagle. Good luck with it! Yunshui  08:26, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Help ME

Hello Yunshui, I want to make a template about Manmohan Singh which shall be like this. Please assist me how to make one. Thank You-- 25 CENTS VICTORIOUS  14:49, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Well, the easiest thing to do would be to copy the content at Template:Sidebar and change the relevant details. Are you sure such a template is necessary, though? I count only three pages ( 1, 2 and possibly 3, though that last one's a stretch) where it could be used, so unless you're planning on creating a slew of articles on Manmohan Singh's premiership there seems no point in creating a series template. Yunshui  16:44, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
I was going to reply and stopped, but I concur with Yunshui about this - there's just not enough in the way of pages-to-be-linked that can't already be done with a navbox at the bottom of the page (and some of the pages are already overflowing with sidebar/infoboxes). Primefac ( talk) 17:24, 4 January 2018 (UTC) ( talk page stalker)
@ Yunshui: Thanks a lot man. I will be creating few articles on Manmohan Singh's premiership in due time. And then will make a template. Thanks again -- 25 CENTS VICTORIOUS  10:00, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
No problem; best of luck creating the series. If you'd like a slightly more easy-to-adapt version of the template (the Trump one is huge) might I suggest Template:Theresa May sidebar, which is a lot shorter. Yunshui  11:26, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

Deletion/Re-Direct of Robert M. Emery

As a relatively new contributor, could I respectfully recommend that the decision to re-direct Robert M. Emery (refer to /info/en/?search=Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Robert_M._Emery) also include Emery Barracks? Although the Mira (AK-84) may sound more substantial, less than 1,000 personnel could have every served on her in her 21 years as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Port Repair Ship. Many tens of thousands of soldiers were stationed at Emery Barracks between 1945 and 1992. It was for this reason that I originally created the article for Robert M. Emery. Thanks!

Lmbowling ( talk) 04:53, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

@ Lmbowling: That sounds entirely sensible, and I'd support such a redirect; however the consensus at AFD was very clearly in favour of redirecting to the article about the ship. To establish a new consensus for the redirect to go to the barracks, you would need to start a discussion at Redirects for discussion.
Or (you didn't hear this from me) just go to [5], change [[Mira (AK-84)]] to [[Emery Barracks]] and save the page. If it gets reverted, then you can have a discussion, but if it doesn't, then clearly nobody minds all that much... Yunshui  09:01, 10 January 2018 (UTC) ::@ Yunshui: Thanks, Yunshui! I followed your second suggestion, and will add a back link to Mira (AK-84). I feel this is best, as the Emery Barracks article contains his biography.

I mentioned you in a thread there, and am posting here as to err on the side of caution, as I never know what's required. Joefromrandb ( talk) 06:29, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Request for edits/updates to information

Hello Yunshui I had tried to edit a page to update information on the university that I work for ( /info/en/?search=Touro_University_Nevada) but you deleted the edits and blocked the user account ( /info/en/?search=User_talk:TUN_External_Relations). I am not protesting that block and understand why you did so as the user account was set up 7+ years ago as a general account, not associated with a person.

I do need to know how an organization can get updates made to their information on Wikipedia? What is the process? There is incorrect information on that page that needs to be fixed. The information I had posted has been removed and the page returned to outdated and incorrect information.

thanks Melody Crickman Director of Public Relations — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.65.177.2 ( talk) 23:45, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

Editors with a conflict of interest can request changes to an article by using the Edit request process. However, requests to add promotional material, such as this edit made in November, will not be acceded to. You will also need to address the block before you are allowed to edit Wikipedia again; indeed, by evading the block to add the above message you are in breach of Wikipedia's multiple accounts policy and have made it considerably less likely that you will be permitted to edit again. Until the block on your User:TUN External Relations account is lifted or you are given permission on that talkpage to create a new account, you may not edit Wikipedia outside of that talkpage.
