WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.
LAST YEAR'S EVENT

- Commons:Wikis Take Manhattan (our cool team galleries)
- Streetfilms: Wikis Take Manhattan (our awesome video)
WINNINGS? The first prize winning team members will get Eye-Fi Share cards, which automatically upload photos from your camera to your computer and to sites like Flickr. And there will also be cool prizes for other top scorers.
WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, October 10th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.
WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!
REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.
WHERE Participants can begin the hunt from either of two locations: one at Columbia University (at the sundial on college walk) and one at The Open Planning Project's fantastic new event space nestled between Chinatown and SoHo. Everyone will end at The Open Planning Project:

I'm discussing the Zoe Saldana article here. That user has asked me why Zoe is called "Puerto Rican", as though she's from Puerto Rico. I tried to explain that since Puerto Ricans are US citizens, the "American" was deemed to be redundant, here at Wikipedia. But then, why is there Category:Puerto Rican-Americans, with she in it? Hi XLR8TION. You do not have to add Category:LGBT people of Puerto Rican descent for people who are already in Category:LGBT people from Puerto Rico. I created Category:LGBT people of Puerto Rican descent because the user Bearcat deleted Category:LGBT people from Puerto Rico from the articles for 15 LGBT Puerto Rican people who were not born in Puerto Rico. I ask why did you erase such a distinguished person. - Gildo Masso - Lebanese ancestry is not referenced or mentioned on his Wiki article or on the 2 sources provided that I can find. (Both links seem broken in my browser).
- Gilbert Mamery - Biographical Wikipedia Article lists no references, and since the list does neither there is no merit for the claim of Lebanese ancestry.
- Gricel Mamery - Biographical Wikipedia Article lists general magazine, television, and newspaper references without links or citations, thus no merit to the claim.
- Charlie Masso - Lebanese ancestry is not referenced or mentioned on his Wiki article or on the single reference that is provided.
As for Sandra Zaiter, I added a good Biographical External link on her article which would help in providing future citations.

Hi - I did remove your text and think these are just not worthy of inclusion as being only tangentially related to UBS and therefore inappropraite due to WP:UNDUE. I also think your edits have WP:NPOV issues. Please note that I have incorporated material events that paint UBS in a less than favorable light including (1) the UBS tax evasion situation (2) the massive losses as a result of the mortgage crisis (3) the losses related to Long Term Capital Management, (4) the Holocaust unclaimed accounts. I have also kept what I believe to be material events (i.e., certain lawsuits). I think my edits are very neutral in providing a history of the firm. I would like to explain each edit in turn
- Swissair - this situation is not even mention in the Swissair article. You wrote "UBS was portrayed as responsible" By whom? This is completely unreferenced and constitutes an attack against the bank and Marcel Ospel whom you name specifically. And why is this important? You wrote "the day after the grounding, thousands of demonstrators marched in front of the Swissair headquarters" not in front of UBS's headquarters. If anything this belongs in the Swissair article, but I have a hard time seeing this as a controversy worthy of note.
- Healthsouth / Richard Scrushy - You describe HealthSouth and Richard Scrushy as a UBS client. From reading the articles a number of banks were involved with HealthSouth. You wrote "Three senior bankers at UBS, Howard Capek, Benjamin Lorello and William McGahan, testified for congressional hearings, but no one was convicted of any wrongdoing". First of all this is an issue of WP:BLP but also why is this important? UBS was not fined or implicated? This was a healthsouth scandal.
- The $100 million penalty - you give no context for this text. Additionally your reference does not apply to the events you describe. If you want to build out something in the appropriate historical section, I would not be opposed but still don't see this as a major event. It was not covered extensively. See this [ NYT article. Please don't add back just this one line however.
- The insider trading section. This is just very poorly written. I would suggest you redraft it and add it to the history section. It could reasonably go (1) in the section marking the end of UBS's successes in the mid-2000s (2) somewhere in the mortgage crisis section as this news came out right as the first losses were being reported (3) with the tax evasion section to show that US gov't pressure was mounting on UBS. But you need to show the outcome of this. THis was 3 years ago so I am sure there is some resolution to this which you do not cover.
- The Brazilian investigation - investigation for what? What was the resolution? Especially because this business was sold in 2009 I think there needs to be something more material here to keep this text. This would more appropriately go into the article about BTG Pactual.
So in the meantime I have removed the text you added. Please do not simply revert my change but think about my comments. I am happy to work with you but given the work that has gone in I don't want to see this article just become a dumping ground for tidbits, goossip and news which it was before. Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.
A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be ' Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying " WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

Including the name doesn't turn the section into a "resume", it's perfectly legitimate: we routinely include the architects of buildings, for instance, and interior design is often acknowledged where such information is known and pertinent. Is there something specific about this inclusion that you object to? If not, I think it would be best to leave it in, as accurate and relevant information. - Yes I agree the article is being vandalised. Also Demographics of Puerto Rico has experienced similar vandalism. Another editor suspected a sockpuppet as shown HERE and HERE and HERE and HERE. Probably a good candidate for protecting an article would be if vandalism is occuring by several/many different people on ONE same article. If the same ONE user, on teh other hand, vandalises one or more article then the appropriate action would be blocking the user. That's my view. For now, let's wait and see what happens next. In my experience vandalisers eventually become victims of their own actions: either get tired of it, lose interest and leave, or realize that it's too many good editors against him/her and stop vandalism, lose interest and leave, or simply want to be disruptive for a while (maybe some sort of mental ailments I suppose) and, after drawing some attention, lose interest and leave. But they almost always leave before producing any real, permanent damage. Thanks for your note, and again I think either protection or a block would be in order soon. It has been suggested that the "List of Puerto Ricans" be moved and renamed "List of notable Puerto Ricans". The current name reflects a misleading title since it is politcally incoreect and may lead to the misconception that any Puerto Rican may be included regardless of the explanation given in the introduction. Wikipedia does not allow that the term "famous" be used since that term depends on the perspection of what an individual may consider what the term "famous" means, however the term "notable" is widely accepted by Wikipedia since there is an established criteria of the meaning of the term and there are variuos "lists" in Wikipedia which currently use the term notable. Therefore, I am calling on a 7 day consensus as to the renaming the current list to "List of notable Puerto Ricans". Hi there, I noticed you made an edit on Jessica Wild that since he remains a man, the prounouns should be "he." If John Leguizamo does not publicly respond by June 18th to the acusations that his father made that he (the father) is 100% Colombian and not Puerto Rican as John has always claimed, therefore making John Leguizamo a full Colombian and not a half Puerto Rican, Leguizamo's name will taken off the list. - This is a tough and embarssing situation. His father is not Puerto Rican as he claimed with his lies, Leguizamo's parents are both Colombian therefore he does not have one once of Puerto Rican blood; and he has never resided in Puerto Rico. The fact that he is not Puerto Rican will be deleted from his bio and there is nothing that we can do. He my "feel" Puerto Rican, but to be a Puerto Rican and to "feel" Puerto Rican are two different things. I can accept the fact if he comes public and sets the record straight. For example if Leguizamo faced the situation and said something like this "I may not be a Puerto Rican by heritage, but I consider myself Puerto Rican and I'm proud of it" then that would be aceptable, but up until today, he hasn't been man enough to publically face the situation. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and even felt proud that he was Puerto Rican, but unless he comes public and tells the world exactly what he feels, I personally feel that he has lied and cheated us all. - Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are south of the (Greater) Cauacasus Mountain range and thus part of Asia but are considered politacally part of Europe.
- The categorization here is not done according to religion and "culture", which is not relevant in these list of diplomatic missions pages, but continents. I will put Azerbaijan a ("Muslim" country, no importance again) which also geographically lies in Europe, is politacally part of Europe. So do not forget to include Azerbaijan as well. And I will put the region of the Middle East under Asia, which it is part of.
- Can you continue to remove Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia together from Asia and the "Middle East" and put all three of them under Europe. Thank You. - Like the three Caucasian countries, Turkey is also included and listed under Europe, despite the overlapping bicontinental geographical categorization of all these four countries, regardless of their religion and culture. So yes Turkey is included as well. Turkey is also memeber of the Council of Europe and virtually all European political, sporting and cultural organizations and is also a canditate country for the European Union (the only European organization that it is not a memeber of), and none of these four countries are members of any Asian political, sporting and cultural organizations.

I noticed you have made a large number of changes to the Diplomatic Mission by Country (DMBC) articles by moving Turkey from a country listed in 'Europe' to a country listed in 'Asia'.
There are many good reasons to argue it should be in one continent or in the other, such as membership with other bodies, physical geography, ethnic heritage, historical factors etc. People advocating Turkey's inclusion within Europe will rely on one set of arguments; people who believe Turkey is not within Europe will rely on another.
At the end of the day I do not want the DMBC articles to be a battleground for some contest. It is just a list.
So we rely on the United Nations geoscheme to determine on which continents are particular countries located. In the UN geoscheme, Turkey (as well as Cyprus, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, amongst others) is listed as being in Western Asia.
I believe the UN's Statistics Division is sufficiently apolitical and agnostic on whatever identity questions Turkey (and Europe) might have. Whereas arguments based on geography, history, demography, political membership are contestable, it is hard to argue that a more consistent scheme exists for categorising countries by continents.

- Tukey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan are members of teh COuncil of Europe. Furthermore Turkey is a candidate member for European Union membersip. Another editor brought up the same fact that the countries as part of the continent as Europe includes anything north of the Urals like Armenia and Azerbiajan and Turkey is considered part of Europe due to the presence of Istanbul in Europe. I will not revert no article until a LENGTHY discussion is conducted. The UNited Nations is not the only multinational organization in the world as a member of NATO, the COuncil of Europe and possibly the European Union, Turkey does not fall under Western Asia. Armenia and Azerbaijan also are georgraphically part of Europe. Please read the criteria for Member states of the Council of Europe. Article 4 of the Council of Europe Statute specifies that membership is open to any "European" State. That says enough and therefore the category will remain unchanged. - The problem with the membership argument is that it can be trumped by itself. Yes, Turkey is a member of the Council of Europe. But it is not a member of the European Union, which is a far more significant organisation with treaty-based obligations on its members. There is no sign that Turkey will become a full member anytime soon.
- I may agree that Turkey is a "European" nation. But it is also an "Asian" nation, demonstrated by its membership of other regional bodies. So do we list Turkey twice? Expanding coverage of Jewish women on Wikipedia makes these women and their creations discoverable, addresses the gender bias on Wikipedia in a positive way, and works to correct imbalances archival collecting practice and institutional projects that have historically silenced women's narratives. Featuring an opening Artists' Panel at 10am, with Sol Aramendi, Sharon Lee De La Cruz, and Marisa Morán Jahn, to be moderated by Rocío Aranda-Alvarado, curator at El Museo del Barrio. The Museum of Modern Art and Fundacion Cisneros/Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros are uniting with international allies to focus on the lives and works of Latin American artists, architects and designers. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

 On the last Sunday of every month, the Boardroom at Ace Hotel New York hosts Action Equals History — a unique opportunity for New Yorkers to learn hands-on in a technology training/workshop session about the mechanics, practices and benefits of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects. This is an opportunity for all to gather, share and work collectively towards a more robust account of history. Watson Library at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City. The Met is excited to make available over 375,000 images of public domain artworks for contribution to Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse collection onsite and remotely. The event is a key marker too of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's first Wikimedian-in-Residence program, with resident Richard Knipel ( User:Pharos), along with Wikimedia NYC. Join us for an evening of social Wikipedia editing at the Museum of Modern Art Library's third annual Wiki Loves Pride Edit-a-thon, during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles pertaining to LGBT art, culture and history. All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required. Themes for this event include art related to HIV/AIDS activism and on LGBTQ artists of the African Diaspora as part of the Black Lunch Table project. Experienced Wikipedians will be on-hand to assist throughout the day. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will have library resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics on hand.

 The Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ The Met will be the Metropolitan Museum of Art's second edit-a-thon, hosted on Sunday November 19, 2017 in the Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education (81st Street entrance) at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City. Following the first Met edit-a-thon in May 2017, the museum is excited to work with Wikipedia Asian Month for the potential to seed new articles about Asian artworks, artwork types, and art traditions, from any part of Asia. These can be illustrated with thousands of its recently-released images of public domain artworks available for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse Asian collections onsite and remotely.
Attendees should bring their own laptops and power cords. Light snacks, drinks and cake will be provided. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

This edit to the article for Eastchester, Bronx added Christopher Williams (singer) as a notable. There was no source added, no mention of Eastchester or Edenwald in his article and no reliable and verifiable source found in a Google search to connect him to either Eastchester or Edenwald.

All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

At this event on Thursday evening and during the day Friday this week, anyone from the public is invited to LaGuardia to join students, professors, and CUNY faculty in translating Wikipedia articles among any languages which attendees understand. Themes for this event include public health and the history of New York City. New York City has a large immigrant population and great diversity of speakers of various languages. Among all schools in New York City, LaGuardia has the highest percentage of immigrant students, the highest percentage of students who speak a language other than English as their first language, and the greatest representation of language diversity. It is a strength of LaGuardia that it can present "Wikipedia translatathons", which are Wikipedia translation events. | |

The Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ The Met will be hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday November 16, 2019 in the Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education (81st Street entrance) at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City. The museum is excited to work with Wikipedia Asian Month for the potential to seed new articles about Asian artworks, artwork types, and art traditions, from any part of Asia. These can be illustrated with thousands of its recently-released images of public domain artworks available for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
