WP:THREAD and add a colon to whatever formatting the previous response used: Use the same indentation and list formatting as what you are replying to, plus one level at the end of the indent/list code. E.g., if you are replying to something in a complicated discussion that starts with #:::*, just copy-paste that and add a :, resulting in #:::*: ...

I recognize that my post at ITN/C was a mistake, as it could be taken as a racial slur (though I didn't think so at the time).
