Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. carl bunderson (talk) (contributions) 22:22, 13 July 2010 (UTC) reply

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:20, 15 July 2010 (UTC) reply

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This is the final warning you will receive regarding your disruptive edits. The next time you insert a spam link, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. Your recent edits

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. -- SineBot ( talk) 13:37, 28 July 2010 (UTC) reply

External links

I looked at your edits to Jewish ethics and to Ketuvim. The problem I see is that the links to the JPS lead the reader to a sales site rather than to an information site. There's no new information about Jewish ethics here, just a list of books for purchase. It'd be like linking to Amazon.com, and I don't think we allow that either. (See WP:ELNO, #5). The Tagged Tanakh might be more promising, if it's a free reference source for users, but when I clicked the link you listed under "external links", I was taken to a page that asked me to register first, which may be the problem (see WP:ELREG). (Still, I'm not sure why the reference links you added were removed.) I agree with you that sometimes Jewish topics get edited inappropriately by Christian editors, and I'd have to check the Bible Gateway links to see if they're similar to yours (I've had links to this Christian-text database removed, and I'm still not sure why...). But in this case, I think the problem lies in your choice of pages to link to. In the future, try to pick sites that can immediately provide readers with more concrete information about the topic at hand. I hope that helps. Just to add to those comments on external links, and the links to Wikipedia policy in the warning messages above, urls are also widely used in citations, if they take the reader directly to the indicated page of a book, or section of a work, thereby facilitating following up the cited reference. However, commercial sites like Amazon are not usually considered acceptable, while most (but not all) editors agree with using Google Books. When it comes to citing Scripture, there's a very strong preference towards widely accepted translations, and a number of conventions about how those links should be included.
To answer another question you've asked in various places, articles like Book of Genesis are not specifically Jewish or Christian but are intended to reflect all points of view. Such articles usually refer to whatever translation of the Masoretic Text an editor prefers. Obviously, if Jewish and Christian translations (or, for that matter, Catholic and Protestant translations) differ significantly, then WP:NPOV requires giving both versions, and explaining the scholarship behind them. -- Radagast 3 ( talk) 10:01, 29 July 2010 (UTC) reply
