English type tagging

Hi Roastedturkey, I was wondering what basis you were using to apply the various engvar templates you have been adding to talkpages? Variations are usually determined by the editors working on the articles or by application of engvar, and your tagging has caused an issue on the Taiwan talkpage. CMD ( talk) 15:23, 10 May 2019 (UTC) reply

I usually do it to cement the variety of English the article prefers per MOS:CONSISTENCY to make inconsistencies less likely. I may also do it if an article has strong national ties to the topic. It was probably a poor decision to do it with the Taiwan article, however, as it had no clear preference over which variety of English to use. I apologize for any problems I may have caused there. -- Roastedturkey ( talk) 19:25, 10 May 2019 (UTC) reply

Sea

The article Sea is written in British English, so I propose rolling back all the edits you have made today. The history of the article is that it was virtually a stub for years until Chiswick Chap and I expanded it in April 2013, starting with this edit. We then took it to GA and later FA. Do you think we could have done that if it were littered with spelling mistakes? Cwmhiraeth ( talk) 18:03, 3 June 2019 (UTC) reply

Indeed. The Wikipedia policy is not to change language settings without very good reason and wide consensus. Since the law of the sea is in English and both of us are British, that does seem unlikely. Chiswick Chap ( talk) 18:09, 3 June 2019 (UTC) reply
According to the talk page, the article should be written in American English.-- Roastedturkey ( talk) 18:08, 3 June 2019 (UTC) reply
The American English tag was added by LlywelynII with this edit on 29 July 2014‎ without any consultation, more than a year after the article had been expanded in British English, and long after it became a FA. I have removed the American English tag, replaced it with a British English tag, and returned the article to its state on 29 May 2019. Cwmhiraeth ( talk) 18:52, 3 June 2019 (UTC) reply
Expanding the article, even to FA status, does not justify replacing the spelling variation.-- Roastedturkey ( talk) 18:57, 3 June 2019 (UTC) reply

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Annexation; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Dorsetonian ( talk) 17:14, 20 August 2019 (UTC) reply

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Belligerents of the American Revolutionary War. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – American Revolutionary War. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at American Revolutionary War. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. GPL93 ( talk) 01:52, 6 March 2020 (UTC) reply

An article you recently created, Belligerents of the American Revolutionary War, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. ( ?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed ( verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Copyediting articles is welcome. Changing terms twisting what the reliable sources state is not copyediting. Regards.--Asqueladd ( talk) 10:08, 19 June 2020 (UTC) reply

Hello, Roastedturkey. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, " Belligerents of the American Revolutionary War".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
