For all of your hard work over the years to truly raise the standards on both WP:WPRS and WP:TVS by leaps and bounds, first with an amazing amount of DYKs, then dozens of GAs and several FAs. It has been rewarding being your 🦝 partner-in-crime on multiple tag-team efforts. Your encouragement of me to go beyond my comfort zone and work on my own articles has meant an awful lot. On 20 February 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article KOVR, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the founder of a California TV station opted not to name it for himself because the call sign would have sounded like "cough"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/KOVR. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page ( here's how, KOVR), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.
The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:
In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV ( submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.
Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. I would be interested in working on some of the articles about Chattanooga TV stations (or stations around the state). I am very familiar with the stations in Chattanooga, as I grew up watching them. On a related note, one idea that I've had for the last year or so is getting WSM (AM) or Grand Ole Opry (or both) to featured article status by their 100th anniversary next year. In case you don't know, WSM is one of the oldest and probably most famous radio stations in the world, and the Opry is the oldest radio program in North America that still airs. This isn't something I've actually taken very seriously up until this point, as I also hope to get Scopes trial (which was also the first trial in the US to be broadcast by radio, FYI) to TFA by its 100th anniversary next year; however, this is certainly something I would like to consider doing. Thank you today for KCPQ, introduced: "For a television station that didn't broadcast in color at all for its first 19 years of broadcasting, channel 13 in western Washington sure has had a colorful history. A summary would run too long even for FAC, but it can be roughly divided into six periods: its foundation as KMO-TV, the short-lived television adjunct of a long-running Tacoma radio station; the J. Elroy McCaw and Blaidon years as KTVW, which saw it run second-fiddle among local independent stations and ended in bankruptcy and a year of silence; its operation by the Clover Park School District as an educational station, curtailed by changing financial circumstances and new local exigencies; return to commercial operation under Kelly Broadcasting, which included Fox affiliation (in 1986), relocation of facilities to Seattle (in 1997), and the beginning of a news department (in 1998) and left KCPQ the definitive fourth force in regional television; 20 years under Tribune Broadcasting, which built KCPQ up substantially in the area of news, and briefly Nexstar Media Group; and its operation as an owned-and-operated station of Fox after the network had coveted it since the 1990s. Along the way, readers will learn of its status as the "funny, fuzzy" station on Seattle's TV dial; the court-appointed trustee who saw enough during an episode of Batman; and Fox's almost-plan to abandon KCPQ and build a Fox-owned station out of the TV equivalent of sticks and stones."! -- Gerda Arendt ( talk) 10:33, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi Sammi, first, I'm a big fan of your work to improve radio and television station articles and have been following them over the last year. Thank you for your contributions. Second, I wanted to ask if you entertain requests. :) I continue to volunteer as an alumnus of my college radio station WYBC (AM)/ WYBC-FM (probably should be combined) and wanted to ask if you might be interested in improving it, or if you have suggestions on missing source material. I would be able to track down some free use media, such as photos and audio (station IDs and promos) from over the years, depending on the length of the article. It's an interesting station, being organizationally student-run as an independent non-profit separate from the university, but also running a professional FM station often at the top of the New Haven market. Let me know what you think? czar 14:04, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

in the first URL. You can do a regex find-and-replace search like I did for existing clippings with clip IDs (find: \/doc\/newspapers\/image/v2*(.+?)\$?clipid\=
, replace with /newspaper-clippings//
, note the second slash), but any unclipped GBank links on the encyclopedia now need to be clipped. You can find these with a search like
Special:Search/insource:"doc newspapers image" — note that some are archive URLs that need to be kept or, ideally, replaced, and I'm fairly sure some of the pages I work on have borked archives now for GBank.Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article KASN you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. Hi Sammi, I wanted to ask a question about Talk:Renata Carvalho/GA1. Almost all of your GA reviews are exemplary, but I found this QF odd. There's explicitly no minimum length for GA per the WP:GACR, and while very short articles are perhaps more likely to have problems, I don't see why a 450-word article should immediately be failed. Did you mean that the article does not have sufficient breadth due to its missing information found in Portuguese-language sourcing (3a)? Or am I missing something? In any case, thanks for all your hard work reviewing this March - you have made a real difference. — Ganesha811 ( talk) 14:00, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi there, I hope you are doing well. I've been developing the Wikipedia article on Rahul Gandhi's biography of living persons (BLP). While I've made my best effort to include all necessary information to pass the GA nomination, I'm personally not satisfied with the content it currently contains. Consequently, I'm concerned it might be subject to quick failure just like Ayesha Takia. Could you please provide your valuable suggestions or recommendations either on my talk page or here, so that the article doesn't fail quickly? I also want to ensure that it's easy for the reviewer to assess. Thanks in advance. 25 CENTS VICTORIOUS 🍁 15:15, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
Hello, Sammi! Let me introduce myself. I have a degree in information security (that is mainly computer security also known as cybersecurity), but my hobby is medicine, so I mostly contribute to medical articles, such as one that you reviewed, HNMT. Thank you very much for reviewing the article. You were very thorough in grammar and punctuation. Can you please help me with punctuation in the other articles that I nominated, by just editing them and fixing errors that you noticed? If you find a sentense that is not comprehensible, please let me know in the talk page, so I will edit it. You introduced yourself as the nominator of many TV-related articles. I briefly looked to these article and they are perfect, I could not find any GA-related problem in them from the first glance, although, I didn't spend much time as a GA review would have required. Can you help me with fixing errors in the articles that I nominated, you will find them in Wikipedia:Good_article_nominations#Biology and medicine? Your expertise in TV-related articles is evident, and I believe your keen eye for detail would greatly benefit the articles I’ve nominated. I understand that this might be a departure from your usual area of interest, but I think your perspective could provide valuable insights. In addition to punctuation, I would appreciate if you could also look at the overall structure and flow of the articles. Sometimes, being so immersed in the subject matter, I might overlook how the information is presented to readers who are not as familiar with the topic. Your feedback on this would be invaluable. I noticed that your articles have a very engaging and accessible style. If you could give me some tips on how to make complex medical topics more understandable to the general public, I would be very grateful. Lastly, I would be more than happy to return the favor. However, I'm not sure if that would be ethical if I review your articles, as I might be biased because you reviewed my article. However, I can probably look with more details to your article and if I notice something, I could give suggestions if you wish at the talk page. Thank you in advance for considering my request. Also, I never nominated anything to "Did you know". Can you please help me in guiding through this process, as I'm a newbie in this GA/DYK stuff. Not quite sure how to reply to a DYK page given the lack of a reply function, so pardon is this is a bit forward, but I was a bit confused by your statement of adding a second call. I presume you mean add an additional source, but do you mean adding a second source to verify the hook, or adding another source to the article itself to verify the information? Has one ever considered Magneton? Pokelego999 ( talk) 22:09, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

With reference to the 2021 RfC on the Greatest Hits Radio station rollup, I note that the same thing is now happening with various Bauer CHR/Hot AC stations being rolled up into the Hits Radio brand. Someone enthusiastic is already going around moving these to the Hits Radio titles, e.g. Hits Radio Staffordshire & Cheshire rather than Signal 1. I'd support the same thing as happened with Greatest Hits - i.e. the scope of these station articles stopping at the point of the Hits Radio rebrand, to preserve the history of each unique station. I don't, however, know how to do an RfC so would appreciate any assistance! Flip Format ( talk) 11:37, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

I just wanted to thank you for saving the radio station articles with sources. You've introduced me to WP:BEFORE, something I was unaware of (maybe it didn't exist in the early 2000s?), but I appreciate very much.
