Thanks for the welcome! I am enjoying what I am doing and I look forward to making useful contribution in developing some of Wikipedia articles. P.K.Niyogi 20:37, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Mr. Niyogi, I'm assuming you are Bengali. So, would you like to contribute to the Bengali language wikipedia too? You can check it out here: http://bn.wikipedia.org . Right now, 20+ people are actively editing there ... we have only a few from west bengal. So, please join us there. You can see a tutorial here. For Phonetic Bangla typing (নিয়োগী would be N-i-y-O-g-I), you can use the Avro keyboard, downloadable from here. Also, how to enable Bangla rendering can be found here. Thanks. -- Ragib 18:30, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
I am new to Wikipedia. I do not know how much time I will continue to get for this. I was born and brought up in Bihar and therefore I am not that well up in Bengali. Then I will have to learn how to type in Bengali! I don't think I will join your project now but keep it up. Once it gets noticed there should no dearth of writers in Bengali. Best wishes. 59.93.193.134 05:51, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

I agree with you. A name must be spelled as the person did. The problem is, I try to get the real spelling and when failed, do as mind says. Actually, wrong spelling does not matter where persons like you are to correct thouse. Would you please keep an eye on the articles started by me? When there is something wrong, you can enrich and even rename them. Thanks for the suggestions. Hope I will get a senior and experienced colleague like you.-- Maksud3 09:18, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I keep forgetting to reply to you, sorry about that. I agree with you that proper names should be written in the spelling used by the person. The thing with non-English names is that they can be written in more than one way, and often many of the older spellings were assigned by the British (e.g. Tagore).
I try to keep true to the original spellings, but sometimes contemporary spellings have become widespread. For example, Keshab Chandra Sen, is perhaps the term people are looking for when searching for him.
Anyway, I don't know of any text where Keshab Chandra spelt his name as Kesub Chunder, but if I did, I'd have used that spelling.
Thanks again for your message and comments. -- Ragib 07:41, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

In case of duplicate articles, the correct step is to put the {{ mergewith}} and {{ mergeto}} tags, rather than AFD. Thanks. -- Ragib 03:41, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

We haven't been formally introduced but I've enjoyed reading many of your articles. Shubho Bijoya. Take care. -- Anirban 03:44, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi P.K.Niyogi, I've tagged the above article as copyvio which would get deleted after a week's time. I've also informed the user on his talkpage. The next time you come across a copyvio, you can use the procedure mentioned in WP:CV by yourself. btw, there is an alternate article available at the title Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar. Thanks for letting me know abt this copyvio. -- Gurubrahma 13:45, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Mr. Niyogi, Thanks for starting all those articles about prominent Brahmos, especially those hailing from East Bengal. I learnt a lot about this through the articles. Before that, I assumed the Brahmo Samaj movement was limited to Kolkata and the nearby regions ... I'm surprised that many people hailing from East Bengal had such prominent roles in it.
Now, I'm curious about some points, perhaps you can clarify some of these, since you are quite knowledgeable about this.
1. Many of these leaders of the movement seem to be from East Bengal. Is there any particular reason for that?
2. A lot of them seem to have settled in Hazaribag. Is there a reason for that? Or is it because you wrote about people who settled there?
Thanks again for starting the articles. -- Ragib 04:51, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Excellent job on the Birbhum district page. I was quite busy yesterday and couldn't respond. I was reading a book recently on the tribals (Santhals) in Birbhum, Purulia, and Paschim Medinipur. I am planning on writing an article soon on the Santal Revolt and I will link that to the history section, if you don't mind. I might add some information on the culture of adivasis in the district, but overall, it reads well. I am hoping to get Paschim Medinipur and Purba Medinipur up to the same standard but there is so much to do and so little time. lol.
Thanks also for the note on the Portal. I will try to help as much as possible, but my help might be restricted to Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, due to work pressures during the week.
I am glad you have dicovered the DYKs. It brings much greater exposure than simply creating an article. I didn't know about DYKs either until Dwaipayan mentioned that I should nominate Stoneman for a DYK and I did. Then after that since many articles were meeting the criteria, I kept adding them. Hope you will do too since your articles are informative and referenced.
Take care. I have to run in to work now. :) -- Antorjal 14:08, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi! I would have really liked to support Birbhum in selected articles in West Bengal portal. But I cannot for some reasons. Some sections are small compared to other sections.( I know it is tough to find out resources). Again. some portions, like the small poem on palm tree ( It was nice to remember tal gach ek paye dariye...) is unencyclopedic, even if I sound rude. Demographics may be enhanced with religion data (may be deducible from the following sites: please see: [ http://www.censusindia.net/religiondata/] and [1]) . I shall contact u again soon. Bye the way, how about starting a "selected biography" section in west bengal portal? You have created some excellent biographies so far. Regards.-- Dwaipayan ( talk) 16:36, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Thnanks to Atul Sur's book, I have enough information on west bengal.. I can make the ethnocultural history section much longer.. But that would look disproportionate. So I am waiting to let the other sections expand to a more balanced form. -- Dr.saptarshi 01:55, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Ya... I'll tell Dwaipayan who put the request for the map up to remove it. I think he's forgotten about it. Thanks for noticing the DYK nominations. I was happy to write on Rajnarayan Basu and Sannyasi Rebellion and felt the need for an article on Partition of Midnapore as well. Please let me know of any new articles relating to Bengal that you create since I have read quite a few of the ones you wrote in the past. I especially enjoyed the ones relating to the history of Bengal. :) Take care. -- Antorjal 04:22, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi! A belated Happy Diwali and Kali puja!-- Dwaipayan ( talk) 19:31, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you dada for the encouraging comments. I am going to recreate the Birbhum map and then I think the Birbhum article will be selected for Portal:West Bengal. Also you are going a great job keeping the portal up-to-date with information. Unfortunately, last week or so, I didn't have any time to contribute on wikipedia so my activity was a lot less than usual. Take care. -- Antorjal 23:53, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi! I am afraid the images in Birbhum District do not follow selected article criteria 4. The images do not follow acceptable copyright status point. "Pic by courtesy Information & Culture Deptt., Govt. of West Bengal" is not public domain. Govt of India pictures, unlike "works of US govt", are not in public domain...that's a problem.-- Dwaipayan ( talk) 21:22, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi! West Bengal is in FAC. Express your views in the nomination page. Regards.-- Dwaipayan ( talk) 17:20, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Does the DSP PR dept have any online announcement/statement saying the photos are free to use? If so, you can give a link to that web page while uploading every photo from them. Or, if there is some notice in their office stating this policy, you can take a photo of that notice and upload that photo wikipedia, and then go on uploading photos from their collection. That's what I can think of now. I shall refer this case to wikipedians who know more about these things. Regards.-- Dwaipayan ( talk) 04:43, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
I'll help out in any way possible with the Birbhum map. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time for wikipedia in the last 10 days. I'm hoping that'll change soon enough. Take care. Good news is looks like West Bengal will go through the FAC. Thanks. -- Antorjal 18:34, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
You must have noticed that selected biography has been started in Portal: West Bengal. i request to prepare summaries for so many biographies you created. Please see Portal:West Bengal/SC Summary where the selected contents are listed. Also see the biography summaries (link is there). You can just shift to edit mode and see how the templates have been used.
Unlike selected article and selected pictures, I decided not to go through the tedious selection procedure in case of selected biographies. Please comment if you don't agree with this. It will be great to have biographies of lesser known people appearing regularly in the portal.Regards.-- Dwaipayan ( talk) 05:12, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm glad that you liked the maps. I was taking a bit of time, but I've finally added maps for all 19 districts of West Bengal one by one. Let me know if you need any map work done for Birbhum. Take care.-- Antorjal 00:27, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Please see Portal:West Bengal/Selected article candidates, where Bengali language has been nominated. Please comment. Regards.-- Dwaipayan ( talk) 06:38, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
That's a very interesting and well written article. I did not know that tulsi leaf was used for swearing in at the time and the other information regarding this fascinating personality. Thanks for writing the article, it was a great read! -- Antorjal 15:47, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks a lot for upgrading the article. I've copyedited the notes and reference stuffs. However, do you think the DYK text ("...was mother of 8 and deft at needlework...") is ok? How about just "...was the first female doctor of European medicine system in South Asia..." or something like that? May be " Kadambini Ganguly, a prominent Brahmo and social worker, was the first female ..." - like this?
Another thing I noticed in the Banglapedia article - a libel case against Bangabasi editor. How about incorporating that in the article? Regards.-- Dwaipayan ( talk) 08:15, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
If you worked on the article that would be great. Thanks in advance. Antorjal
Mr. Niyogi, just wanted to explain my edits there. I have removed those people who were born in Eastern half of Bengal, what is now Bangladesh. The article is about people "From" West Bengal, so it will be better to include only people born there. This is unlike the category "People of Kolkata", which can easily include people who lived there in their later lives. I hope you understand my point. Thanks. -- Ragib 01:33, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

People from western India may not know about Kadambini Ganguly. All these years I was under the impression that Anandi Gopal Joshi was the first indian women doctor...I firmly agree with you that the dates are contradicting...I am still unable to digest that Mrs. Joshi went to US in 1883 and completed her masters in 1886. School children in Maharastra are taught that she was the first Indian women doctor... May be our educationalists should be given more information..But I would like to thankyou that you throwed some light on Kadambini Ganguly IndianCow Talk 21:25, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

I have reverted the test edits on Bhatpara. As for Kalyani, West Bengal, you will have to discuss with the editor that wikipedia is not a Yellow Pages for his college. If any of them repeat, give them a final warning. If they still don't listen, you can leave a message on my talk page. As of now, they cannot be blocked. - Aksi_great ( talk) 19:05, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
