Hi Matthew, sorry to trouble you

This morning I noticed that this FLC had seemingly completely stagnated, with the original nominator apparently having lost all interest in responding to feedback. So I went through the article and corrected what I perceived to be all the outstanding issues, hoping to persuade people to come back and re-appraise the FLC. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to me, it had actaully dropped into the failed log earlier this morning. Once the FLC gets formally closed, is it permitted to immediately re-nominate the article, or is that considered bad form.....? -- ChrisTheDude ( talk) 12:33, 3 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Sure. I don't think it will be a problem. Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 14:46, 3 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Hi. I know you're one of our resident Family Guy dudes. Yesterday I wrote Not All Dogs Go to Heaven, but the plot was edited, then the production notes were removed by User:Immblueversion. I've opened a discussion at Talk:Not All Dogs Go to Heaven. Would you comment and try to clear it up a bit, please? Regards, Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 07:24, 28 February 2009 (UTC) reply

I have had similar problems with this user being disruptive on the article Ocean's Three and a Half, with similar type actions, removing whole chunks of material that were quality improvements to the article. I would suggest instead of soliciting just one editor, to make use of processes to involve more members of the community about it. If it is a content dispute, WP:RFC on the article's talk page with him, (see Talk:Ocean's Three and a Half for a current, ongoing, example), if it is edit-warring, WP:ANEW, and if it is general miscellaneous disruption, WP:ANI would be the way to go to gain input from other previously uninvolved admins. Please do keep me posted if you decide to go one of those routes. Yours, Cirt ( talk) 07:35, 28 February 2009 (UTC) reply

For now I've opened a discussion at Talk:Not All Dogs Go to Heaven. We're both at 2RR right now, so if he makes the same edit to the article, I'll go to ANEW; if he doesn't but we can't come to an agreement, I'll go to RFC. Meanwhile, are you in a position to comment on the talk page? Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 07:41, 28 February 2009 (UTC) reply
Hopefully the two of you can resolve it amicably without need for further input. Keep me posted either way and I will give a comment or two if you seek out one of the processes mentioned above. Cirt ( talk) 15:01, 28 February 2009 (UTC) reply

Country outlines project update - 2009/03/08

Things have been slowing down again, so it's time for a big push...

We've gone live

This project needed a shot in the arm. Also, its draft pages have been littering Wikipedia's categories for months. The time seemed right to move all the country outline drafts to article space.

WHAT???

Well, the drafts had been sitting in Wikipedia space for a year.

WHAT???

Development has been moving at a snail's pace and we could use the help of the Wikipedia community at large (who are more likely to find these if they are in article space).

WHAT???

Yes, we've gone live.  :)

This puts pressure on us to get the blatantly incomplete elements of these outlines done. The only glaring problem is the government branches sections. These need to be corrected ASAP.

I've mentioned THE GOVERNMENT BRANCHES SECTIONS many times to many people over the past year, but the problem just doesn't seem to have been taken seriously. So let me put it another way:

HELP!!! I need your help on this now. Almost all the countries have a government with an executive branch, a legislative branch, and a judicial branch. The links for these branches need to be completed for each country outline:

Here's a convenient list you can use WP:LINKY on to access and edit these quickly. Please copy the list's link to the top of your talk page so that you can access it easily.

If you spot any standardization in links, and ways we can automate parts of this process, or for groups of countries that have links in common, please let me know!

Administrative support for outlines

There has been growing pressure on me to write up the administrative pages for outlines - their instructions, guidelines, etc. Therefore, I'm now in the process of composing these. Fortunately, it is mostly a matter of gathering material from messages I've written to you guys over the past year. Still, this is taking up most of my time, and I will be buried in these for the foreseeable future.

Traffic control

The next big task after the government branches sections are cleaned up is link support for the outlines.

There's quite a list of links and notices that need to be put in place around Wikipedia, providing access to them to readers, and alerting editors to the need to develop and maintain these pages. This will keep our bot people very busy (and happy).

But the most important thing right now is to get the government branches sections completed. So please, put your bots aside, roll up your shirt sleeves, and start typing.

Thank you.

Talk page stalking. I personally thought this would happen ages ago. I do think we should change the FLs. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 20:01, 8 March 2009 (UTC) reply
I do. Same with the music ones. Some should be done already though because it's often something I catch. Wasn't there a discussion at [WT:FLC]] a while ago? I didn't really follow it, but when pages such as List of Lost awards and nominations pop up, it's a bit ambiguous as to whether they are lost awards, or awards for Lost. Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 20:04, 8 March 2009 (UTC) reply
Gary King did the music awards a while back. I think I will be bold and move the lists. If asked, I will cite various FL discussions and invoke the need for standardization and disambiguation. Dabomb87 ( talk) 20:06, 8 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Date formatting

Just a question. I noticed you converted the ISO style of dates to another style, and was wondering if you had a tool to do it. I'm not planning on doing anything major (I want to stay as far away from all the ArbCom date stuff as I can!) but would be interested if there was a monobook script that does it. If there is could you point me to it please. Many thanks, Rambo's Revenge (How am I doing?) 20:52, 23 March 2009 (UTC) reply

There is no script (that I'm aware of) that converts articles from ISO to other styles. Dabomb87 ( talk) 22:57, 23 March 2009 (UTC) reply
Lightmouse's script has a "All dates to dmy" and "All dates to mdy", but it never seems to work for me. In the case above, I did it manually. Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 01:02, 24 March 2009 (UTC) reply

I was going to wait for your input before posting it, but I found out that you were gone, so I decided to post it. After that, I kind of just forgot about you. Also, nobody is calling for you to step down (I'm a tad surprised that nobody has asked me to step down), and the messages at WT:FLC were mostly jokes. I'll try to wait for you to return before doing anything else (like adding a new criterion). -- Scorpion 0422 16:27, 22 March 2009 (UTC) reply

If you have a chance, could you try to comment on the revised criteria? I'm hoping to be able to implement it next week, but I'm not going to do it without your input. Also, if this goes through, we may need another FLRC delegate. I have some ideas for who we could appoint, but I'm afraid that we would lose those users as FLC reviewers. Glad to hear it! For what it's worth, I believe you are correct regarding the A/a in astronaut, and we should strive to get things as correct as we possibly can, minor or not. It is a shame this wasn't caught in earlier FLCs, but it's not too late to make the necessary similar changes to the other lists. As for the verbal back-and-forth between two Crats, you both have Wikipedia's best interests at heart so it's not worth falling out over. Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 05:21, 26 March 2009 (UTC) reply
FLC ≠ FAC. Lists are formatted entirely different from articles, and so the good folks at FAC may not be up to scratch with regards to lists. A lot of stuff over there does apply, but they also do some things differently and for good reason. Actually, the citation templates instruct that the date format should be the same as in the main body of the page. I've always believed, therefore, that if the date format for prose/table content is "26 March 2009", so too should the refs. If a table uses the ISO format, the refs can, too. Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 05:21, 26 March 2009 (UTC) reply
We are aware of the inconsistent reviews at FLC, but as DaBomb said, we're not robots, we're humans, and there aren't that many people who review. When another reviewer comes along with other remarks and concerns, that doesn't make them any less valid, nor does the fact that they weren't brought up in previous FLCs. I know that you feel that your recent FLCs have come under so much scrutiny, but I think that's a good thing (I'm always far happier when my nominations get a thorough going over, knowing they are as near to perfect as possible). Yes, a lot of issues that were brought up at his latter FLC nominations were not mentioned at his earlier ones. I don't believe that means they don't apply though. Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 05:21, 26 March 2009 (UTC) reply

FYI: This should be of interest. I am the initiator of the FLC in question but due to being overwhelmed with school Rlevse was helping out since he has authored most of the lists like this for the FT which it seems won't be nominated now. - MBK 004 02:14, 26 March 2009 (UTC) reply

This one isn't actually a fork. Someone constructed the episode list to transclude articles of all the different seasons. I think merging them so it meets the rules of not transcluding in articlespace is a better solution than deletion. Could you please revisit the debate now you know it's not a fork. - Mgm| (talk) 11:21, 27 March 2009 (UTC) reply

That someone is me. I created the season pages and wrote the episode list. There is nothing to merge them to -- the information is already given at at least 3 other places. It's still a fork; I won't be changing my mind. Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 01:20, 28 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Thank you, both. Right now it's only 6:49pm Pacific time, so I still have a few hours of celebrating left! Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 01:30, 28 March 2009 (UTC) reply

New FAC instructions

Should we ask Gimmetrow to do this with FLC too? See Wikipedia:FCDW/FACRollout. Dabomb87 ( talk) 12:32, 31 March 2009 (UTC) reply

It sounds like a good idea. If Scorp is happy, and other nominators like the idea of it, perhaps we can do it in May. (I think we should see how FAC handles it first!) Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 16:34, 31 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Maybe

I guess I could again. It is just a chant used in wrestling when the wrestler known as Samoa Joe enters the arena. He tends to be stiff in his matches as if he will kill you. The phrase is even linked to Joe's bio.-- Will C--- Joe's gonna kill you!!!) 18:25, 31 March 2009 (UTC) reply

All you WP:PW people will know that, but the average reader (like me) won't. Matthewedwards ( talk contribs  email) 18:46, 31 March 2009 (UTC) reply
Though I don't visit anything not related to WP:PW. I might nominate an article for FAC, GAN, or FLC, but they are all wrestling related when I do. But I'll remove it anyway.-- Will C--- Joe's gonna kill you!!!) 18:53, 31 March 2009 (UTC) reply
