Tall Tower / Al Burj ; 1400 m?

You may want to read the first post of the Tall Tower thread on Skyscraperpage. I think it's the meed.com article published on 2008-06-20 discussing the height and name change. Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 01:04, 5 July 2008 (UTC) reply

Then we should at least add a note regarding this article. Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 19:04, 11 July 2008 (UTC) reply

Dubai Tennis Championships colors

Hello and thanks for what you said on my work ! I've changed the Dubai event's default color to red because most of the other events have a specific color, and I thought Dubai should have one too, and I chose that specific red because I thought it was close to the one used in the Dubai flag. But I agree with you it makes the text difficult to read, and I'm willing to change it. I think that a lighter red, like the Terra cotta would be fine and make the text easier to read, but if you think that another color would suit Dubai better, you can look yourself here.
I also want to say that the spaces around the tournament templates you removed on the Dubai Championships pages should actually be kept, as it has been the consensus for a few months already to have them on tennis events articles, for aesthetic reasons - so I'm going to put them back, as line breaks, rather than as spaces. Cheers, -- Plafond ( talk) 20:42, 18 July 2008 (UTC) reply

Any color would work actually, so feel free to propose something entirely different if you want (if not, I'll change to burnt sienna). As for the spaces, I believe it's actually a case of silent consensus. Some users started to do this a few months ago and it has been accepted by regular tennis editors, and the line breaks are now present on every new event page created. I've put spaces on articles written in early 2008 for the sake of consistency, but I don't know if there was a particular discussion on the subject (I think the spaces improve the look of the pages, but I guess it's a matter of personal taste). Proposed deletion of Renaissance Square

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Renaissance Square, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also " What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{ dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.  Sandstein  09:07, 19 July 2008 (UTC) reply

Sheikh vs Shaikh

Hi; regarding your recent changes to Category:Shaikhs_of_the_emirates_of_the_United_Arab_Emirates and its articles and subcategories, "Shaikh" is not a mis-spelling. See article Sheikh, where it gives alternate English spellings. If you feel that the categories should be renamed to "Sheikh" to conform with the spelling of the article Sheikh, the proper method would be to propose name changes for the categories at WP:CFD. And in any case, if you think a mis-spelling has occurred, the proper place to propose the change would be WP:CFDS. In the meantime, I've changed the categories back to the original spelling. Thanks. Good Ol’factory (talk) 10:59, 21 July 2008 (UTC) reply

Thank you for leaving this message on my talk page. I am sorry if my edits appeared to be rude. I should have discussed my edits on the talk page before I made any changed, and I apologize for that. I should also apologize for the content of my edit summaries. "Spelling error" was a mistake; I should have said "spelling difference."
I know that "sheikh" and "shaikh" are both used in English. I was not attempting to change all usages of "shaikh" to "sheikh." My only goal was to change usages of "shaikh" when it dealt with people from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In the UAE (where English and Arabic are both widely spoken), "sheikh" is much more common than "shaikh." I will admit that there are some cases in which "shaikh" is used. But, the most common form of the word in the UAE is "sheikh." I was attempting to change the spelling to the format that is used in the United Arab Emirates.
I would like to change the categories back to "Sheikh," but I would like to first discuss it so we do not start an ugly edit war. Thanks. Leitmanp ( talk | contributions) 22:09, 25 July 2008 (UTC) reply
It's OK, no need to apologise, I just wasn't sure about your intent. If you would nominate these for a name change using WP:CFD, I'd be happy to support the change based on your explanation above. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:05, 26 July 2008 (UTC) reply
I have just nominated the renaming at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2008 July 26#Sheikhs in the United Arab Emirates. Thanks. Leitmanp ( talk | contributions) 22:01, 26 July 2008 (UTC) reply

Image Problem

Hey Leitmanp, why do you revert all the edits i do. You say you have to "discuss" all your edits, but they're are so many edits you do which are not discussed and they're are so many edits which other people do which are also not discussed. You don't own wikipedia neither do you own any articles. So just because you don't like how a page looks doesn't mean that someone else won't. I mean for example the Abu Dhabi article sucks. They're are so many mistkakes, wrong facts, and one of the most boring city articles. Look at the Dubai article, everything is so organised and their is a link with every word as well as keeping the page very balanced and informative.

Another point is the Dubai airport article. The page is basically messed up. It is so small. Infact they're lots of spelling mistakes and incomplete sentences, not to mention extremely wrong facts brought up. The reason i don't correct them and provide a link or a source for them is because people like you will just revert them. All these articles are so boring, they need more images, and better information. So stop acting like you control these articles, because you don't, you share editing it. CTBUH wikipedia page

Dear Leitmanp,

My name is Philip Oldfield and i am head of research for the CTBUH (www.ctbuh.org). I am contacting you as one of our interns has been recently been updating the CTBUH wikipedia page as it was several years out of date. Having made this update, we have found it has been reverted back to it's original state by yourself - why is this? Have we done something wrong with the update? All the content and pictures we have used are owned by the CTBUH and as such we are not (to the best of my knowledge) breaking any copyright laws. Would you be able to contact me to shed some light on this situation. 216.47.145.107 ( talk) 20:19, 14 August 2008 (UTC)phil reply

Hi Leitmanp. I've added a few more images to the abu dhabi article, but i've also removed a few. The images i removed, in my opinion, were not that good. So i replaced them with better images. ( MoHasanie ( talk) 18:15, 23 October 2008 (UTC)) reply

The article Westburry Square has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Invitation to workshops on editing Wikipedia

Dear Leitmanp,

We are a team of researchers at the University of Oxford and AU Sharjah, researching the experiences of editors of content about the Arab world on Wikipedia. We are interested in your experiences of editing Wikipedia and are organising two events that we think you would be an excellent contributor to.

First, we are hosting an online wiki focus group about contributing to Wikipedia in Arabic and to articles about the Middle East and North Africa. We are interested in what barriers you perceive to exist in Wikipedia, how articles can be made better and generally what can be done to expand and improve Arabic Wikipedia and Wikipedia articles about the Arab world. This discussion will take place on a MediaWiki hosted at our institution and be available in English and Arabic. We will allow users to create their own discussion pages in addition to our discussions.

Second, we are hosting face-to-face workshops in Cairo from 21st-22nd October 2012. If you are interested in this we should be able to pay travel and accommodation costs for up to twenty participants. This workshop will cover similar themes to the online discussion but will allow participants to meet one another and benefit from being together.

We will take care of the organization and planning and all you have to do is show up and be ready to discuss. But if you would like to help shape some of the discussion themes in advance, please let us know. We have booked time in the workshops for Wikipedian-led discussions.

More details can be found by expanding our “Frequently Asked Questions” below.

We would be delighted to welcome you to either (or both) event. Please let us know (wikiproject@oii.ox.ac.uk) if you would like the opportunity to participate and we can send you more details.

Sincerely,

Mark, Bernie, Ilhem, Ali, Ahmed, and Heather

I am trying to take Skycity to DYK, considering what an interesting hook it will make. For which, I intend to expand the article as much as I can (to meet DYK expansion standards). For this I request your help to expanding the article and making it a truly great hook.

I am trying to keep all edits at User:TheOriginalSoni/Sky city so that we have more than the traditional 7 days to finish this hook. Hope you shall help!!!
