Hi Jeff, thanks for your input here. I thought seeing as the blog was referencing another printed published periodical from 1990, "Code 13", which he says was supplied to him by Tony Collins it would be alright. But I can see why that would be a problem. What do you suggest we do here? As you might have guessed I'm not a very experienced editor, just started doing things a few years ago, but keen to imporve content on rugby league history, so i would appreciate a bit of guidance. I know that the blog is accurate from personal experience, and the version of events which is more widely know is not the whole story of this. I was reading the article as it stood on the world cup thinking 'if only people knew the true story, but I guess there's nothing out there that references it', when i came across that guys blog, and I didn't know about the policy on blog usage. I can pull the article out from "Code 13" which all his info on that blog is based on and get the publication details but that might take some time. Can you give me a few days to get the reference? Short of going to Bradford library and pulling out copies of the T&A on microfiche I don't know what else to do. As I said also the links to the old newpaper article from the sun herald from the previous edit are dead, so something needs to be done about that, as at the minute there is no reliable source for the tale in any version. - Hi, the Sun Herald link isn't dead. It is linked from the part of the reference that says "Archived from the original". The article title links through to an archived copy at webcitation.org. - Ha, that's funny, history repeating? Well I suppose they found it because it's 'safe' in Auckland now. Are you going to add that into the article?
- I was thinking about the 'value' of the world cup. That it cost 8 million francs in 1947 sounds astronomical. I am assuming that is a figure for the design, making it, promotion and maybe even the formation of the entire world cup, not just the trophy. Picture licensing. I want to use this picture
http://nla.gov.au/nla.pic-vn3562091 on the page for
Johnny Raper. The copyright is held by the national Library of Australia. I contacted their pictures department for permission to use it and the librarian granted written and signed permission which I have a copy of. However I looked at wiki's policies for creative commons licensing and now I'm not sure the signed permission form they've given me is enough. What should I do now? Do I need to further clarify under what copyright terms this picture can be used?

- Thanks, glad to be appreciated. Well, I've been loitering around wikipedia for a few years before I got an account, made a few crap IP address edits that were always reverted straight away because I didn't have a clue what I was doing or what wikipedia was about. I suppose that made me look into why they were taken down, and make sure future edits were water tight so they'd stay there, so I learnt from the experience. Learning how to do citations was a big sticking point, but the Cite tool has really made that easy, and if I have a problem I look at how the coding's been done on other pages.
- I've recently been doing mostly musician biographies work, so I've been grappling for a few weeks with all the things relevant to this Lucifer article, so it's all quite clear in my mind. Otherwise i don't think I'd have had a clue. Still a lot of things here are a mystery to me. Like I just did a hell of a lot of work on the Ike Turner page, using a musicians page layout and then realised the format for a R and B musician is completely different! any suggestions what to do in that case?
- I thought I'd give Luciferfan the opportunity to improve the page himself before I dive in, as I've got enough on my plate at the mo. I think he's goning to stuggle with the references though, but maybe he'll work it out. Is there a specific article explaining how to make references using the Cite tool? I couldn't find one. - Hey, no worries Bob, I can see why you would assume that I'm a guy, seeing as only about 5% of the fans of this film are women! Thanks again for the barnstar and the nice comments, I like that people on wikipedia are very appreciative and helpful generally, which makes editing on here worthwhile.
I agree with you, thought the article was very mediocre before, just obsessed with the tiny details of the plot and the car park. I picked up the excellent book on Get Carter by Steve Chibnall which was the impetus for doing this I suppose, but I was actually surprisedat the vast amount of source material out there once I started looking. I thought at first I'd end up plagarising Mr Chibnall, which I hope I've avoided (still a bit sketchy on what counts as plagarisim and what is 'referencing').
Not sure what to do with the citations template, There are still a few bits in there added by other people which I didn't remove but still need referencing. I'm thinking in particular of the bits about the poster artwork and a couple of bits in the influence section. I think there might be some relevant bits in the Chibnall's book, but I have to check. I didn't want to be presumptuous enough to remove the template myself, I'd rather someone else removed it after they'd checked it was OK. If you want to do it go ahead.
I also think the article needs a section on 'critical reappraisal', as a big part of the film's story was that it was a mostly forgotten cult throughout the 80s, when it was seen as a sexist throwback or an undistinguished pulp film. Gangster films were not classed as having artistic merit in the UK for decades, until the 90s really. I think this differs from the influence section because the film was not really recognised as important or ground breaking for years. The endorsement of Quentin Tarantino and the rise of 'lad culture' did a lot to get UK critics interested in the film again. - Whoops, and of course a discussion of the themes in the film, which are its basis in revenge tragedy, corruption hypocrisy and crime, the north-south divide, death and maybe something about hodge's signature touches- I think he's a bit of an auteur in his own way, and terribly underrated. - Well, with 124 references spread across a wide variety of sources, it definitely doesn't need the template any more, so I've removed that. To be honest, I would say that if there is any content in the article that was there previously and not cited that you aren't happy with, then it should definitely go, as it was probably speculation anyway, and that stuff about the poster sounds rather original researchy. You raise some interesting points about revenge tragedy - I note Chibnall's book makes the comparison on page 7, but there must be an article out there that compares it thoroughly to Titus Andronicus or the Duchess of Malfi or something! I must admit, other than this and, ahem Flash Gordon, I'm not particularly familiar with Hodges' other works. Bob talk 23:10, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for removing the template. I think there is information about the poster in Chibnall which reads very similarly to the stuff in the article. I just need to find the reference and maybe simplfy it a bit. When I first looked at the article parts of it read like they had been written by someone who had read Chibnall but hadn't cited the book. I've referenced this book briefly, but I haven't had chance to read the article thoroughly to see what it contains. Hodges has a really small filmography, he had a lot of misfortune in his film career, and Flash Gordon is maybe not the best example! I recently watched Pulp, the film he did after Get Carter with Michael Caine and Michael Klinger again. It's maybe not a masterpiece like Carter, it has a few flaws but I found it very interesting in its style and entertaining, and I'd like to watch it again so I would recommend that. I also want to watch his sci fi The Terminal Man (film), Croupier (film) and I'll Sleep When I'm Dead (film) (which is meant to have a lot of similarities to Get Carter, but with a different tone).

I'm a bit out of the loop with regards to GA standards these days, so I probably ought not to review it myself, but I've given it a look over, and one thing I have noticed on a quick skim-through for potential banana skins is that although the references are mostly consistant in style, or or two are just weblinks or have slight formatting problems, ie 39 and 47. - Hi Bob, sorry for the delay getting back to you. If you wouldn't mind sorting out those weblinks that'd be great. They were links that were added before I started working on it. Cheers. Now I've nominated it I keep seeing bits that I think are not very strong, the filming bit needs a lot more work so it reads like a consistant account of the filming rather than a series of anecdotes. There is maybe some irrelevent detail in there too. I think the pre-production section might be too long, I wonder if there is a case for including a locations section in this article, seeing as so much information seems to be available about them?
