I have sent the Office of Security information regarding the matter. I hope it clears things up a bit. However, as I've been told by several admins and users on IRC, ArbCom most like will reject the request, so I hope my efforts @ clearing it up myself will work out for the best. If not, I might just ask an admin who understands this situation to call the Office of Security. At this point, I won't know the extent of the damage caused by the email, but I've got to say, this is one hell of a way to start off a school year on Monday. - Jameson L. You know, I have no way of knowing now whether the author really blanked the page himself or not, so I don't know how to respond to you. I know what {{ db-blanked}} means and I was under the assumption that the page was blanked by the author after the CSD tag was placed. - Jameson L. Tai ^{talk ♦ contribs} 19:39, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

The editing log seems to show that you blanked it and then tagged it with db-blanked. It's not a big deal either way - I speedily deleted it for notability problems. -- Philosopher  ^{Let us reason together.} 20:05, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Please review the logs again. I think the previous diffs show that all I did was tag the article with a notability tag or some other article-issues tag. However, when the page refreshed, I saw that the content was blanked and the only thing remaining was the old CSD tag and my article-issues tag. Therefore, (I believe I checked the history for this) I tagged with WP:CSD#G7 because it looked like the author blanked the article after the page got on CSD. I'm not too sure since I was in class when I did this, and I've already gone through three classes since I tagged this. Anyways, have a great day! - Jameson L. Hey. You probably remember me. Are you letting me keep my account, with editing privelages as well? After all I did on my page? 'cause if you are, then I just wanna say thanks, and that I'm sorry for the way I acted. I just got quite angry 'cause this is supposed to be a free encyclopedia that anyone can edit, but you guys always seem to try and delete everything. Can I please be told what was wrong with [1], exactly? The Sohnen are mentioned explicitly in X3's plot as being some ancient race, an individual of which (or at least one who appears to be a member of said race) is actually an or the primary antagonist in the game. Basically, all I did was revert my previous removal of this material, and reworded it slightly.

Meh, usually HG doesn't screw this this bad, but I've been keeping a close check of what the program's actually doing vs what key I pressed. I don't trust the stations here. And since my primary account has admin access, I don't particularly want someone getting a hold of that and breaking things. While i was working on the page for a book from 1910 titles The Science of Getting Rich, i found that you had reverted it to a redirect page. Please explain why you did this. Your only stated reason in the editorial comments field was that you did it, not why.

Because you did not state why you, in effect, deleted my good faith writing and sourcing, i am restoring the page again and will be continuing to work on improving the article for the rest of this evening. Please let me do so and do not hinder my work.

And according to this your revert replaced a perfectly good article about the Icelandic language with an article about cathedrals. As far as I can tell, the revert you made immediately after my last edit and the last revert you carried out in the article called "Icelandic language" both transformed a perfectly useful article about the Icelandic language into a list of cathedrals, having absolutely nothing to do with Icelandic or any other language. If you have any rational explanation to why you reverted the article several times into something that has nothing to do with the name of the article I would be delighted to hear it, and I think asking me to create an account and logging in is quite preposterous - who I am has nothing to do with how you use (or abuse) your rollback rights. 90.44.131.106 ( talk) 21:51, 9 September 2008 (UTC) (yes, it's still me, but evidently the hotel gives me a new IP address every time I connect)

This seems to have stemmed from an error by RussBot ( http://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Icelandic_language&diff=next&oldid=232488088), which the above IP editor corrected, ClueBot uncorrected, the IP editor re-corrected, and you re-uncorrected. I'm still not sure why exactly, but typing any kind of filler text into the interests box forces the columns to their max width, fixing the issue. Hey! I hope this isn't a bother; I've come to respect your opinion on university-related matters here. I've set up some templates for Talk:Southern Nazarene University#Merger proposal and posted info at Wikipedia:Proposed_mergers to see if I can generate any discussion on whether or not we should have separate articles for SNU history, athletics, buildings, awards, etc. I'd cast my vote with the idea that, if well-crafted, the content can all be included in the main article, but I don't feel as if one man's opinion matters quite enough to start creating and destroying willy-nilly (or if my philosophy is even reasonable). I am new to Wikipedia so forgive me if I followed protocol incorrectly. Still learning. I am writing in regards to the speedy deletion of the Alan Fine page. I have read the criteria for speedy deletion. I believe Mr. Fine meets the critieria of notority because my research found that over 15,000 people are trained a year with his coaching process. Also, he is one of the contributors to the GROW model of coaching which is widely used in the United States and Europe. I was trained in this process and became interested in the history. Initially I could find very little information on Mr. Fine so began more in-depth research. That is what led me to post this page. Thanks for your patience and I'll watch for your reply. Hey, sorry for disappearing. I have been very busy with uni and work for the past few months. My activity on Wikipedia has taken a turn for the worse as a result :( Your RfA isn't looking too healthy at this point but I don't find the reasons for opposition to be as strong as I would expect to be needed to stop a candidate passing. Dear Mr. Tai,

When you said my addition to the Jimi Jamison article did not appear to be "constructive," were you referring to the YouTube reference I added? The only reason I added that was to make sure that I left some sort of reference for where I had gotten the foregoing information. Jamison himself explained in that YouTube interview that he had actually been born in Mississippi, but grew up in Memphis. I can repaste the information, without the "sources" part, if that makes things less complicated. Let me know if that is a reasonable option. Thank you!

The page on Blackpool - especially the section on Gay Blackpool - is grossly inaccurate, however all my attempts to rectify this have been deleted. Hello Mr Tai

I see you have attached to a new article I just created, a couple of tags about third-party sources and reliable references.

That is in the page for the Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs.

I have added some sources - to the Canadian Encyclopedia and the Imperial Oil Review (not perhaps as well known as, say, The New Yorker, but Imperial Oil was for a long time Canada's biggest oil company, and its quarterly magazine was very credible. I also have noted the online video coverage of the two most recent conferences, not by someone controlled or paid for by the Institute itself.

In most of my adult life (I am about 60) the conferences of the Institute have had media coverage in national newspapers. It is a bit hard to find this kind of reference now. I doubt that the story about the upcoming (as it then was) 2008 conference on Canada Newswire would be of much support: http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/July2008/31/c8889.html In fact this looks like a press release from the Institute itself.

The main history of the organization in print was published in hardcover in 2001 - but was published by the Institute itself.

How many more sources and references would Wikipedia usually want before taking down the tags and considering the content reliable?

I think the article needs to be restructured more than anything right now. The article contains a lot of external links and lists of people. As much as they may be notable, the magnitude of the list of people who are involved takes the focus and attention away from the organization itself. This is an article about the article itself after all. I think a simple link to the organization's website and removing all of the unnecessary references to the organization's website will drastically improve the article overall. If you want, I can reformat the article for you, but I wanted you to know that I will be doing that before you think we're randomly deleting chunks of the article. - Jameson L. Just so you know, WP:RS is a good way to review on reliable sources. I don't believe Imperial Oil Review is a third-party source that is considered neutral for this type of citation. Thanks for the conversation. It may be that some of the names of people can be cut - leave it to me - but it gives an indication of the scope and credibility of the organization that so many of the speakers are themselves worthy of Wikipedia entries, and the mix of people from different backgrounds too. Likewise the list of recent conferences is of interest for that purpose. I could certainly remove a few links to the website, like the citation to the mission and history (except that I don't want to be accused of plagiarism - I suppose I could paraphrase) and re the board of directors.

I agree with you about newswires. I am not sure I agree re Imperial Oil Review - it's a neutral third party, even if it is /was a popular journal rather than an academic one.

If you wanted to try a reformat and post it to my sandbox rather than editing the main page site, I'd be happy to consider it. (Can you post to my sandbox?)

Hi, I have closed your RFA. I believe the main concern shown in it was that you need to work on a few areas.

1. Demonstrate your aptitude towards using good judgement. Using automated tools to revert vandalism is robotic. It does not demonstrate your aptitude.
2. Interaction with the community. There is scope for improvement here. Many newbies will contact you as an admin, so you need to be patient with them.
3. Value to Wikipedia. The basis of the encyclopedia is content. We revolve around content. Adminship involves maintenance and administration of content. You need to be aware of writing styles, layout and so on as an admin to understand how the encyclopedia works.

Thanks for your kind words. I think I pretty much knew that the RfA wasn't going to work out in my favor about an hour or two after I accepted the nomination. I admit there were some tense moments, which truthfully I was really waiting for Mr. IP to come back and respond (he never came back after his nap...) Once I knew the RfA wasn't going to succeed I essentailly took advantage of it and basically made it into an editor review. I don't think the comments hurt me really, in fact it helped me raised certain questions regarding the process, which I hope can turn into a Wikipedia essay pretty soon. I think that RfAs should essentially be an arena for positive feedback and construcitve criticism, not an interrogation chamber, which was essentially my upmost concern right now. I'm not bitter or anything, and I don't see my second failed RfA as indication that I'm somehow a bad person or editor - just basically my current line of work does not require these tools (yet). I have looked at your Sandbox version of the CIPA page. I appreciate your spending the time to set this out.

I am not sure I understand why you recommend removing the statement of the mission and the history. CIPA is one of the persistent and credible voices in Canadian public policy. Those who come across it today - and it is in the press every summer - may want to know what it thinks it is doing and where it comes from.

When I was a student of political science in the 1960s, the conference was written up in the media every year. The reason for the speakers' list is not glory by association but a simple demonstration that CIPA has been a forum for serious thinkers for a long time. The list also indicates the variety of topics covered over the years, and the geographical reach of the discussions - speakers have come from far as well as from near. It demonstrates the non-parochial nature of the proceedings.

I will take out the reference to scholarhips. It's not supposed to be an advertisement! But in my student days and for a good time afterwards I wondered how one got to go to Couchiching (the way I now might wonder how one gets invited to the TED lectures.) I am not the only one who thought or thinks that because of its institutional position, it must be an invitation-only conference. So it adds value to the readers' understanding of the nature of CIPA to know that it is open to the public. I guess people who have a personal and practical interest can go to the website and find out about scholarships there.

Is it not a source of value for Wikipedia readers to have links to third-party videos of proceedings of the conference for the past couple of years? Again, people could find links on the web site of CIPA - but Wikipedia does not work by simply naming an organization and posting a link to the organization's web site. Sometimes the same info is displayed in the Wikipedia writeup.

If the difference is in the independence of the sources - I have added several since your first note on that topic. I will keep looking - but what one is likely to find is newspaper articles describing past conferences. I was thinking that might not be a very authoritative source either. (There is one well-known Canadian novel - In Praise of Older Women - written by Stephen Vizinczey about 1965, whose final chapter is set at the Couchiching Conference. I doubt this is a reliable third-party source on very much...)

The problem with YouTube videos is that many of them are blatant copyright violations to the point where it is now common practice to run through the articles on Wikipedia and remove all youtube links from articles. I understand where you're coming from regarding the mission statement and history sections. The problem with those problems is that we need to remove as much "direct copy-and-paste" information as possible since a simple link to CIPA's website will provide those two pieces of information easily. Also, I'm not saying that CIPA would, but in case the article isn't updated after this and let's say CIPA decides to change their mission statement. This article would then not only be outdated but depending on how much of the statement gets updated, may become outright incorrect. The history section, as I've said before, is not a history section, but a collection of internal links to other Wikipedia BLPs. This does not accurately reflect the "history" section as stated in the section header. If you insist on keeping that section, then at least change the section title please. I'm going to change my Sandbox article to reflect some of the changes made already. Please feel free to continue commenting on this page. - Jameson L. IP 198.83.124.253 is the Borough of Manhattan Community College, where I teach in the CIS department. I have previously discussed with an admin. the idea of blocking for an extended period (if not permanently!) anonymous edits from this IP on the grounds that none of our students has a valid reason to do so from our site: research without loggin in, yes; registered logged-in edits, yes; anonymous edits, no. The response was that blocking anonymous editing is done rarely and only for short periods, but this is a recurring — nay, continual — problem from BMCC. You reverted my recent edit to Deer, and requested that I "provide an informative edit summary." I believe that I already did this, but have clarified at Talk:Deer.
I would however like to say that I'm a little annoyed at the message you posted to my Talk: "The recent edit you made ... appears to be unconstructive."
We can certainly discuss whether my edit should stay or not, but I think that under Wikipedia:Assume good faith, saying that someone's edit is "unconstructive" is a little strong and not in the spirit of Wikipedia:Civility.

I'm a bit confused in regards to wikipedia's standards for appropriate reviews. While you and other editors have deemed links to reviews by Consequence of Sound, LLC as "vandalism" other editors have allowed them.

First and foremost, I find it particularly infuriating that editors, rather than the music community, determines what reviews are "legitimate". For example, despite being highly regard by publications like the New Yorker, MTV.com, Filter Magazine, Time Out, and the BBC, among others, Consequence of Sound is deemed an inappropriate outlet because it does not have a wikipedia page? Can you please explain to me as to why these outlets, combined with over 5,000 users, read these reviews each and every day?

I ask that you review your decision and perhaps communicate with some of your peers just what determines a review's legitimacy. I can give you countless examples of hundreds of wikipedia pages of links to reviews from outlets that not only don't have a wikipedia page, but don't even come close to the reputation or readership that Consequence of Sound has.

I applaud you for your work and I know how had it must be. However, in this case, I think wikipedia is dead wrong.

Thank you for your prompt response and I appreciate your explanation. Like I said, I understand that you're job is tricky at times and I admire you for that. However, I would point out that when it comes to publishing links to reviews appearing on Consequence of Sound, I neither no it to promote the site, nor in a form of vandalism. As an author of several wikipedia pages, I realize the importance of creating an article using many different sources and references. In my opinion, the more reviews for an album the better, especially when the publication at note is well respected within the music community. In other words, I do these edits not for the benefit of the website, but for the benefit of enhancing a particular wikipedia article.

With that being said, I do agree that notability can be a tricky topic and it probably doesn't help that a majority of links posted for CoS reviews comes from yours truly, but I would like to point out that there have been a number of cases when links have been posted to reviews by others, and I would be happy to link you to those if that would help at all.

I'm not trying to start a problem and if you believe it would be in the best interest of all parties involved to stop posting links, I will gladly comply. However, I have reviewed wikipedia's notability standards, and I am fully confident that we fit a majority of the criteria necessary.

I personally believe in this case, as much as I sympathize with what you're saying, the policies on WP:EL and others are quite clear. For a source to not even have a legitimate article on Wikipedia does cast doubt on whether those EL inclusions be notable, and provide substantial content that hasn't already been covered by other ELs on the article. One other bit, I believe it shouldn't take the owner of the website to be adding links himself. If this source is widely used, a wide range of users would voluntarily cite your website on our articles. Sourcing on your website is also an issue. We cannot have articles citing themselves to be a legitimate source either. I'm sorry, but there are just too many factors and until they are worked out, I'm not sure it is appropriate to be added at this time. You, and others in the community are free to add this website in the future once these issues are addressed, or if our policies and guidelines change. You are welcome to work with WikiProject Music ( WPP:MUSIC) and collaborate with other editors focused in the music industry to review your website as well. WikiProjects sometimes can work out their own notability guidelines to allow certain exceptions to external links. However, as you have no doubt found already, more than one editor, including myself, has reverted your external links, which means that my original thoughts on this issue has been seconded. Actually I have been researching to create an Avon by the Sea article as that is where I live. And since there is articles on Sharpes, Mims and other unincorporated areas of Brevard County I felt that Avon-by-the-Sea needed it also especially since I specifically searched for Avon by the Sea and found nothing on it when I was looking to find out population of the area. True it is rather small ~ but if someone were to be doing research on it there needs to be some data available and there is nothing worthwhile online.

That's weird though ~ when I worked for the census last decade I covered Avon-by-the-Sea and it was listed as being separate from both Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral, plus unless it is an extreme emergency Avon-by-the-Sea has to get emergency services from Merritt Island (with the exception of the Sheriff Department of of course). But ambulance services and fire and rescue generally come from Brevard County and the closest Brevard County Services are in Merritt Island. Often we have to wait 15-20 minutes for emergency services even though the Cape Canaveral Volunteer Fire Department is less than 5 minutes away, because we generally have to wait for a response from Brevard County Emergency Services in Merritt Island. Plus Cape Canaveral & Cocoa Beach have both tried to annex us for decades.

I am trying to make a wiki for La Tale and it keeps getting deleted saying that it is an advertisement. I know the intro is not comprehensive yet but I am trying to make it work.
