On 6 November 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Harry Brand, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that press agent Harry Brand had 20th Century Fox insure Betty Grable's legs (pictured) for $1 million? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Harry Brand. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page ( here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Thank you Julie, do tell everyone you meet how good it is to see your articles get magically better. That's the way that DYK is meant to work. Sometimes you just get someone who wants to just explain how important they are, but most of the time its just nice people working well together. Sometimes you even get someone who shows you a whole new aspect to your article (say that Brand was a Russian spy) and that great. We give out a medal when you have done 25. Do ooze at the "did you know" project as it would be good for them to remember what the project is about. Although we don't very often get a newbie as experienced at wiki stuff as you are. Do return to my talk page if you get hassle or you want to help with fixing the low number of women bios on Wiki. You will also get a buzz when you see how many people have read your article .... tomorrow. Cheers Victuallers ( talk) 20:58, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi JSFarman - thanks for your help on my article P.G. Morgan. I have a few follow up questions I'm hoping you can help me with to get this article up and running - would removing the early life section all together help speed the process up? Additionally - how would you recommend dealing with the extra citations? As the draft suggests, I've had many different suggestions on how many citations to use/how to cite things. Would you use one primary citation on the actual sentence/statement, and list the rest of them as references in an additional section? Any insight you can provide here would be most helpful. Thanks again! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmh02010 ( talk • contribs) 21:15, 4 August 2017 (UTC)

Dear JS Farman, many thanks for your look at the article and also your super helpful comments! I have done as you suggested, including removing some of the language that I couldn't find references for, and have also included a number of new references where I could find them. The article is now a little shorter, and I hope more to the point. One issue that Ive had is with references from newspaper archives where you can only obtain access if you have a paid subscription. There are a couple of these references in the article, and I have downloaded the pdfs, but can't upload them to wikicommons. The upside of having made copies is Ive been able to be more precise about the dates of these articles, page numbers etc. The article URL is here: /info/en/?search=Draft:Bughouse_(Australian_band)#cite_note-24 Many thanks again for your help, and all or any new suggestions gratefully received. Hi Julie, I am the subject of a page you reviewed and moved from draft form earlier today. The title is "Jeremy McCoy (double bass)". Thanks for accepting the article! I see a problem that should probably be corrected right away. After reading up a bit, I think it means making a move not an edit. The article should really be named "Jeremy McCoy (double bassist)". That's grammatically better and it will also match a disambiguation note on an article titled "Jeremy McCoy". The note there lists "Jeremy McCoy (double bassist)" so it isn't linking. The other Jeremy McCoy isn't just a musician, like me, he's also a bass player!!(bass guitar, as opposed to double bass, but pretty darn close). You can imagine the online morphing and confusion - especially with google's acquisition of youtube. Having two defined articles on wikipedia should help. I hope you can make this change without much trouble and send the article out into the wiki-sphere with this better title. Thank you very much for your time and expertise! JM 24.46.150.16 ( talk) 02:11, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Julie! The disambiguation link from the "Jeremy McCoy" article works but shows in red and "not created". I deleted cookies and still red. Maybe it will self correct? Jeremy 24.46.150.16 ( talk) 00:19, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
Yep - self corrected. It's blue now. Cheers, J 24.46.150.16 ( talk) 00:24, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi Julie, When an article is renamed, do internal links (like categories) auto-correct? Is there a way to trigger that? Also, that disambiguation link is back to red. Curious why it would correct and then revert. Thanks, JM 24.46.150.16 ( talk) 03:15, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

You responded to my query about creating a text box (or whatever the box in the top right of wikipedia articles is called) a while back and I meant to respond and say thanks but it completely slipped me by. In any case, thank you for creating one in the "Laura Briggs" page that I created. And thanks for the encouragement about creating feminist-related articles! Kjburch1988 ( talk) 14:29, 12 March 2018 (UTC) Hi, regarding your comments, I am unsure how reviews in magazines such as The Florentine and Resurgence & Ecologist are unreliable or trivial. I will certainly remove the interviews and links to Godstow Press, but you also asked for reviews of her books from national and regional publications, which I have provided via both those publications. Her books have also been reviewed by the Historical Novel Society, which I can include as well.
Hello, Regarding this article that you just reviewed. Here is another article for further recent coverage. Here Blackman's creation of THE ASSOCIATES is cited in the book "Law and Justice on the Small Screen." This interview cites him as one of the writers on FARGO. This interview cites him for as a writer on BONES. Are these sufficient? This is my first attempt at creating article, so any guidance is very appreciated.

Thanks very much, JS! This is all very helpful info as I figure out how to navigate page creation, and I really appreciate the detailed response in regards to how to move forward with this article. For the time being, I would like to make one more appeal if that's alright. I think there would be considerable value in publishing this page at present rather than waiting for further coverage, due to confusion with a
prominent wrestler of the same name. The name of the Steve Blackman whose page I hope to publish already appears on multiple pages across Wikipedia, including
The Umbrella Academy,
Legion,
Private Practice, and
The Associates, due to his significant contributions to those series. The inevitable result is that anyone perusing those pages who wishes to research more about him as a creator will see that his name isn't linked, search for it manually, and then find themselves routed to the page for the wrestler, leading to confusion and misinformation. I'll also link two additional articles ([
[1]], [
[2]]) in the hopes that at a certain point, sheer breadth of sources might suffice. Regardless of your determination, thank you again for your help!

Thanks for getting back to me,
JSFarman! Totally understood with regards to guidelines. I thought perhaps there might be an inclusion criterion for situations where subjects could be confused, but I fully respect that you are following objective standards. Per your directive, I've found two more articles that I think should meet those standards. The first is from the
National Post, and it is very comparable to the Globe and Mail write-up. The second is from
Variety, and unlike other articles I previously cited, this one is solely about Blackman's work on a project, rather than only mentioning him tangentially. Finally, I do think that Blackman satisfies the third criterion for
Creative Professionals on the page you linked: "The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series)..." Because that's the very definition of a TV showrunner, and Blackman has been the showrunner on several major shows (which can be verified in some of the sources I originally linked). I hope this all satisfies the requirements. Thanks so much for your patience, Julie! Much appreciated.

Hello! Sorry for writing in English. The Wikimedia Foundation is asking for your feedback in a survey. We want to know how well we are supporting your work on and off wiki, and how we can change or improve things in the future. The opinions you share will directly affect the current and future work of the Wikimedia Foundation. You have been randomly selected to take this survey as we would like to hear from your Wikimedia community. The survey is available in various languages and will take between 20 and 40 minutes.
You can find more information about this survey on the project page and see how your feedback helps the Wikimedia Foundation support editors like you. Hi Julie. How do you propose we deal with this? There are just far too many of (almost) the same photos. Perhaps a discussion on the article talk page? Rob van vee 10:43, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
Hey J. On second thoughts perhaps collusion is not the wisest option. I'm not familiar enough with what the rules say regarding that. Maybe a photo album at the bottom of the article or a reduction of pics generally should be proposed on the talk page first? What do you think? Rob van vee 18:34, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi JSFarman! Thank you so much for the guidance. I might still have screwed it up massively. Most of the works are massive articles in bigger books or journals. I tried to do them using the cite tool but then it duplicated them into the reference section. Not sure if that is right. I also removed a few things that I could only really find on bios that were from Peters herself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Big thoughts ( talk • contribs) 22:23, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi, JSFarman.

As part of a larger plan to increase cooperation between New Page Patrol and Articles for creation, we are trying to get as many of the active AfC reviewers as possible under the NPR user flag (
per this discussion). Unlike the AfC request list, the NPR flag carries no obligation to review new articles, so I'm not asking you to help out at New Page Patrol if you don't want to, just to request the flag.
Of course, if it is something you would be interested in, you can have a look at

Dear JSFarman, Your comment upon my article as follows: "Given that "the caracat can mostly be found on the Russian media (main[17] and local[18] TV-channels, magazines) because the contribution to the breed development is being carried out to date only in Russia by felinologist Irina Nazarova" it will be challenging for the Caracat to meet Wikipedia's inclusion criteria. Reliable sources that cover the breed, specifically, are required. Also (while I love the way this is written, personally) the tone of the article should be more formal. If you're able to provide the references required, you'll need to give this an edit for tone." /info/en/?search=Draft:Caracat
PLease, when declining be more clear. First of all You mention the challenge according to the sources provided in the article. Please would You be so kind as to explan me are You trying to tell me the Russian media is not a reliable source? Next I just must say that if You could be more attentive to Your Reviewer's work - You would look through the history of the article and could see my explanations for the previous Reviewer: the only person who has been making the contribution to this breed for many years - is Irina Nazarova whom I mentioned in the article. she is the professional caracat breeder for more than 5 years. So there are no any other sources to take info from. She herself, her website and her interviews in Russian media - are really reliable sources. Other sources I used for article are also meeting the Wiki rules - no dispute is possible upon that I think You will agree. I would also be thankful if You could be more clear upon Your "tone" remark. So please show me the way the tone could be more formal - take any two pieces for example and rewrite them accroding to the "formal tone" so that I could understand what You are talking about. And additionaly please provide the Wiki rules link about the "tones" should be used in article. I would like to look through the rules about the formal tone. thank You in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alena Ross ( talk • contribs) 12:18, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Thank you for your comment on my draft of the article about Randi Pontoppidan. I have a couple of questions that I hope you have time to answer, so that I can create better articles in the future (this is my first one actually). You wrote in your comment that "The independent references used provide only trivial coverage of Randi Pontoppidan. They're great to verify the assertions of the article, but they don't establish notability. (Her CV, label sites, and the websites of groups she is affiliated with are not independent.)", which I understand since a lot of the sources simply mentioned Pontoppidan and don't go into a lot of detail about her music/life/etc. So I'm assuming that I should have included more sources like source 10, which was a half-page article on Pontoppidan? Should I also have included specific quotes from articles that talk about her place on the Danish music scene (in regards to the notability aspect)?
In regards to sources I also want to ask about the type of sources, because I stumbled across some articles written about her that I didn't include because the author then at the end says "Pontoppidan is playing at XXX on XXX date". I assumed that this wouldn't be a good reference and therefore didn't include them. Should I have?
In general I'm a bit confused as to what renders an article "good", even though I've read the guidelines. Some articles I look at, such as this one /info/en/?search=Dalia_Faitelson doesn't seem to have any independent sources but it has still been approved. Do you know why? I'm sorry what I've written here is so long, but if you have the time it would be really helpful for me if you could answer my questions/point me in the right direction before I attempt to write another article/update this one!
Thank you so much!
P.S. Just to be clear, I'm not requesting a re-review of the article at this point in time, I just wanted to ask a couple of questions.

No problem... would should there be an article regarding his brand, fear of god, or is it too young?
Hi, Julie. Thanks for your guidance on the article about] Nelson Broms (and for taking your finger off the "delete" button!). I'm working on additional citations. Rathfulman ( talk) 22:52, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
HiJulie, I added new citations to] Nelson Broms and deleted one statement I couldn't verify. Please take a look and, if you think the article now meets the guidelines, consider unflagging. Thanks. Rathfulman ( talk) 22:55, 3 May 2
Hi Rathfulman ( talk): In my opinion, based on the references used, he doesn't meet the inclusion criteria. He isn't mentioned in the The New York Times , CNN, or Washington Post references, and while the second NY Times ref does mention him, it's one sentence in a column on executive changes. Bloomberg is a run-of-the-mill listing; Funding Univese is hardly a reliiable hardly a reliable source; ASU is not independent, SEC is a press release; US News and World Report is about ASU; Distinctive Schools, LEEP, and EdisonLearning are not indpendent. That leaves the Science Network and CSPAN, and CSPAN is coverage of a "forum to discuss the idea of an alliance between Jewish Americans and political conservatives." JSFarman ( talk) 04:40, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the second look and the evaluation, Julie. I'll keep looking for independent citations to add. I continue to believe Broms is notable enough, and I don't understand why independent mentions of him proved so difficult to find. Rathfulman ( talk) 17:03, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
Julie, I found and included more independent citations, and deleted some of my assertions I found I couldn't verify. I would appreciate it if you would take a look when you have time, and let me know what you think. Best, Rathfulman ( talk) 05:16, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
(Follow-up to the above) Julie, I need some guidance, please. Some of the citations I found for the Nelson Broms article are from microfiche archives and not available online. I posted PDFs of them, with attribution, to Wikisource, and linked to those. I thought that was one of the purposes of WS but an editor there said no; that they should be on WM Commons, and they might not comply with copyright guidelines. My question for you and your experience is, how can I use a citation that doesn't exist online, for which I have a PDF that can be found in the source's archives? Thank you again for the hand-holding. Rathfulman ( talk) 15:51, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks again, Julie. Very helpful. Don't bother looking tonight. I won't have the citations plugged in appropriately till tomorrow, and then you can see the (hopefully) finished product. Rathfulman ( talk) 19:41, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi, the English Wikipedia recently created a new user permission for editors involved in off-wiki outreach work, event coordinator. This new permission allows users to mark accounts for confirmed for up to 10 days, and also allows them to create accounts for events without rate limits without some of the features of the account creator right that aren't used at edit-a-thons and other events. I have added the event coordinator permission to your account and removed the account creator permission, as you appear to have been using it mainly for outreach work.
This should have no noticeable impact on your ability to create accounts, and will give you the extra ability to temporarily confirm accounts if you need to. For more in formation, you can see the information page on the right, or you can ask me if you have any questions. TonyBallioni ( talk) 19:47, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi! You helped me a while back when my article for Manijeh Razeghi was flagged for deletion. Thank you. I appreciated that! :) Recently I had a different article that I received the notice for deletion after midnight and then the article was gone before I sat down to fix it at 6 am. I am cheesed that I wasn't given the opportunity to fix it before they deleted, but they did give me the article back in draft form. I have edited that and submitted it for review, but the notice says it will take two to three weeks to be reviewed. Is there any way you could review it for me? Best, SJT SJTatsu ( talk) 06:05, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for looking at it. I am going to continue to work on it inbetween other pages that I want to do. I did find another article about it that might address the notability issue, but I do now understand that the article needs reconstruction, which I will be working on for the next few days. I do appreciate that you took the time to read it closely and google search. Sorry, it took me a while get back to you. Thanks again :) SJTatsu ( talk) 22:09, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello JSFarman, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

I understand your policy that every factual assertion needs to be verifiable, but I am a little unclear on what Wikipedia editors consider a "factual assertion." I see on entries for other people that their place of birth, education and the like are not substantiated. I could use a little guidance on what parts of this entry or what types of assertions require corroboration. Thank you for your time.

Hello, JSFarman. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery ( talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello JSFarman,
This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.
See also the list of top 100 reviewers.
The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.
At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.
Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

Hi!
I see you are a member of the Wikipedia project for journalism. I was a journalist for 25 years so it's a topic that interests me. Anyway, I have a conflict of interest with respect to the article about the journalist Jonathan Swan as a paid consultant to his current publisher, Axios. I think the article can be massively improved and I've made a series of proposed changes here: Talk:Jonathan_Swan#Request_Edits. If you could take a look, it would be much appreciated. I don't make edits directly on the article because of the WP: COI policy. But I am an experienced Wikipedia editor. Thanks! Ed BC1278 ( talk) 19:24, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
In this edit, with edit summary "Fixed ref errors", the major aspects of the changes appear to be:
I'm undoing this edit as there is so much seeming damage. If you could clarify what error(s) you were trying to fix, perhaps I could help figure out a way to fix it without poor side-effects. DMacks ( talk) 05:49, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

for refs that are published in a static hard copy. As the cite docs say, "Access dates are not required for links to published research papers, published books, or news articles with publication dates.". It's only really needed for web sources and other non-static content where the content could be different on different days. That's pretty unusual compared to how I was taught bibliographic style in school! One of the refs was easy to fix because you found the URL, so I just re-added it. To say that someone's writing is controversial (and I believe you re correct in saying that Arnold's has been) while offering only a quasi-Festschrift of quotes seems to indicate that neutrality would lie in indicating where the disagreements lie.
Sorry that the mention of Kurt Cobain turns your stomach, but mention of Arnold's ongoing obsession with Nirvana is certainly relevant. For what it's worth, her reference to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in her paper on rock festivals didn't come close too turning my stomach but did give me a slight headache. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LimaMonk ( talk • contribs) 23:25, 30 January 2019 (UTC)

JSFarman,
I did a great deal of editing/clean up and redirecting of references to certain parts of Draft: Scott Ellsworth. I hope this clears up what you were referring to. I do have a bio pic in my possession sent to me directly from Ellsworth himself so the page can be more complete. Thanks for your help and I hope the page can go up now.
Shelyric ( talk) 02:19, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
Through the archived interviews and other links I got know Ellsworth's work. I got interested in doing the article because of his impact on interviewing jazz artists and entertainers on a nationally known level, he is a rare breed. As a kid growing up in the Los Angeles area he was well know. I contacted Ellworth so to fill in holes of his timeline, there would be no other way to do that. There is no biography written on Ellsworth. I can certainly cut more out but at some point there are certain facts about his life that only he could verify, especially the earlier years. I can cut down those references to only a few so to at least back up some of the earlier year stuff. Shelyric
re:Draft:Scott Ellsworth
I have done another round of serious edits for this page in question. The references from the 'interview' have been cut way down from 22 to only 7 (which would be necessary for that very personal information). It is far more dependent on more reliable sources you have pointed to as they can reinforce Ellsworth's notability. Un-needed information for the page has again been deleted.
Shelyric ( talk) 05:36, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
I appreciate you pointing me in that direction and whatever research materials that can be supplied. No, there are only certain things I have been able to get a hold in terms of research materials (through Highbeam, etc.?). I never saw any lengthy article or interviews from the Riverside Press Enterprise or other Inland Empire (Southern California based) media resources who might have done an expose on Ellsworth. Anything would help so I can complete this research and finish the article properly (thanks!!!). To my knowledge, the only interview outside of my own was done for the jazz/festival symposium is with the Pasadena archives; Ellsworth does not get enough into his past to verify some things from earlier in his career in Colorado/Utah...it was not until he goes to KFI in Los Anglels that he gains national notoriety (for the most part). While Ellsworth was helpful with the information he supplied, he is in his 90's and I don't think he remembers every interview and article. YES...please post any content you have on my talk page I would really appreciate it!!!
Thanks Shelyric
I am sorry and maybe I am just not getting this...I am not seeing an 'email this user' tab to the left. Is this on your talk page? On the master Wikipedia page? Sorry for my ignorance.
Thanks Shelyric
Hello JSFarman, I am not sure if my browser is not allowing this (still do not see it) but I went ahead and gave you my email on your page. PLEASE erase this after you have emailed me...we will talk there. Shelyric
Hello JSFarman,
Thank you for the resources you supplied! Please look at the note sent (to email), I hope to have whittled the Ellsworth page down to exactly what is needed and is completely justified and can be moved on.
Appreciated, Shelyric
Hello JSFarman,
I really do appreciate the help and the fact you took extra time on this. Thank for helping to move the article forward as Ellsworth is an unsung hero who did literally hundreds of interviews of very important artists and his style was unique.

Hi there Mr/Ms Farman,
I see you went through and deleted a few of my animations...mainly footwear on various pages. You said they are promotional. Please be assured they are not. I have nothing to do with any of the brands where I posted these animations. I have been putting these animations up on various pages for years now and they almost always remain up there because the community feels they are a useful visualization of the products they manufacture. I have been through this before where an editor suspected I was working for the brands in question and I was able to prove this is not the case. Please let me know how we can resolve this.

There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.
Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.
The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.
NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.
Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.
Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.
School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.
Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

Thank you for the encouraging note in review of the stub I created for Horton Barker. I saw just the briefest clip of him in Festival and I was a goner. High on my article To-Do list is finding a picture that's out of copyright. I have also found some other sources I will use to fill in more detail, soon. I hope you enjoy listening to Horton Barker. So far I can't listen to more than a song or two at a time, as his singing hits me so hard and so poignantly. Thanks again.
Also, if this comment would be better published to my own User talk page, my apologies. The "talk" functions, policies, and practicies in Wikipedia are still not clear to me. Gcampbel ( talk) 16:14, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi JSFarman,
The Wikimedia Foundation is asking for your feedback in a survey about your experience with Wikipedia and Wikimedia. The purpose of this survey is to learn how well the Foundation is supporting your work on wiki and how we can change or improve things in the future. The opinions you share will directly affect the current and future work of the Wikimedia Foundation.
Please take 15 to 25 minutes to give your feedback through this survey. It is available in various languages.
This survey is hosted by a third-party and governed by this privacy statement (in English).
Find more information about this project. Email us if you have any questions, or if you don't want to receive future messages about taking this survey.
Sincerely,

Hello JSFarman,
Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.
Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.
Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.
Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.
Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.
Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.
DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

Though there is often a backlog processing messages received at this address, we should have received your message by now.
If we don't hear from you within one week, the file will be deleted. If we can help you, please feel free to ask at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- B-bot ( talk) 14:35, 9 October 2019 (UTC)

Hello JSFarman,
This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.
There are now 809 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the
NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some
really cool awards.
Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.
Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.
Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.
The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.
There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

Hello. This is a message to let you know that a subpage of your user page has been moved to User:JSFarman/sandbox/Melody Road (Neil Diamond album). This has been done since titles with consecutive apostrophes (for example, '' or ''') have been known to cause issues with wiki markup on pages if the page title is linked on other pages. Since the end of 2014, the creation of titles containing consecutive apostrophes has been restricted by Wikipedia's title creation blacklist. The page can now be found at User:JSFarman/sandbox/Melody Road (Neil Diamond album). Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this. Thank you. This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.
Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.
Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.
Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.
Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.
While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Hi, I got a message that you reviewed by Wikipedia article Robert Lewis Byington. Thanks for doing this. I appreciate the time you guys spend on Wikipedia. I was wondering if you could review a draft for me? It is at /info/en/?search=Draft:Elwood_Walter,_No._7. I have spend a lot of time updating this wiki page with more citations and linked to other pages, e.g. Pilot boat, Joseph Henderson (Pilot), etc. They suggested that I contact someone else to review the page since the review queue is so long. I thank you in advance, if you can review the "Elwood Walter, No. 7" page. Greg Henderson 21:25, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
hi -- happy new year! I'm a bit slow getting to this draft submission. I've read the relevant materials on notability, but I don't understand why Zilm doesn't qualify, as she has substantial (not passing) references to her work in both The Walrus (significant monthly Canadian literary/public affairs magazine) and Canadian Literature (a well-known academic literary review). She was also shortlisted for a significant poetry national Canadian award (Pat Lowther Award). The Canadian Literature and Walrus articles won't show up through a regular Google search -- they will show up if a database search is done through a library. Do the sources/references have to show up through a Google search to count? It would be somewhat rare for even many well-known, established Canadian poets to appear in Publisher's Weekly. Thanks for your help! cheers, Ktrainor7 ( talk) 20:45, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
@ JSFarman: The facts simply do not support JSFarman's decline of this article. NY Times and Fortune Magazine articles qualify as significant independent coverage of Finis Conner by reliable secondary sources. His founding of three of the pioneering disk drive companies should more than qualify him as a subject for Wikipedia. We can replace the Wikifoundry references with RSs at which point the article should be acceptable. Tom94022 ( talk) 08:11, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello JSFarman,
The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.
New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.
Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Thanks for moving my article into the main article space, but I actually had intended to do more work on it before publication. No problem, though, I will continue to work on it there. fixing the title of my article, which I thought I had created in user space. However, it should technically be titled, "List of covered bridges in Connecticut" to follow the naming convention of corresponding articles for other states. If you could move it to that name without creating a link having the current name, that would be great.

Please note that I reverted your addition of a date of birth to Cara Buono as the date has been disputed (see the related discussions on the article talk page) and you didn't provide the reliable sources required for a date to be included as required by policy. Hi JSFarman, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.
Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.
To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!
Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 ( talk)

Hello JSFarman,
NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.
In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Thanks, User:JSFarman, for reviewing this page, and for the information re the acceptability of crunchbase as a reliable source. I'm working to find alternate sources to substitute for those.
I'm curious about why WP views cruchbase so. Can you elucidate? WP's page on it reports: "Crunchbase sources its data in four ways: the venture program, machine learning, an in-house data team, and the Crunchbase community. Members of the public can submit information to the Crunchbase database. These submissions are subject to registration, social validation, and are often reviewed by a moderator before being accepted for publication."

Hello JSFarman. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Billycart Kids, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The page was only recently made promotional, so instead of deleting it, I reverted it to the previous non-promotional version. Thank you. Jackmcbarn ( talk) 04:02, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Hello JSFarman,
Just wondering if you'd be able to review my new draft for the Global Task Force for Public Media. You originally declined it on June 24, because the sources used were not independent from the Task Force. Since then, I replaced all the sources by independent ones. Does it meet the inclusion criteria as it is now?
I re-submitted it for review in late July. I was wondering if you'd be able to help move things along.
Thank you,
Julien.faille ( talk) 15:06, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi!
Thank you for your review of my Wiki article. I understand how it could read not as neutral as it should be. If this topic is not heavily sourced online, do you suggest keeping the article even shorter than it is now? Is it ok to keep the links to articles (like the one in Fortune Magazine, etc.) or should those be taken out too?
I know you mentioned the tone of the article as well. Any suggestions (like an example sentence change) of how I could do that? That would be super helpful!
This is the draft for reference: /info/en/?search=Draft:Travis_Montaque
Thanks again.

Thanks for uploading File:Revolver Gallery Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. Hi JSFarman,
I appreciate your feedback but I need more clarifications as stated below:
1. "References need to be independent of S.K. Nayar." Most everything placed as references are from external, reliable sources such as, established newspapers (Hindu) a national daily in India. Also, other references pertain to legitimate websites with specific biographies and writeups on the subject by verifiable sources. (Kerala Sahitya Akademi, University of Madras, Asan Memorial etc.)
2. Can you place the references that are valid after the assertions they support? Do you mean each citation needs to be at the end of the line and not specifically where the word is referenced? (Pl clarify and point to a good example versus a bad example on my page.)
3. I changed the caption (The Quintessential Teacher) to S.K. in 1980 to make it neutral.
I will be happy to make alterations and edit further as needed.
Thanks!

Hello, JSFarman. Some time ago, a file you uploaded — File:Roger Gengo 2019.jpg — was tagged with {{ OTRS pending}}, indicating that you (or perhaps the copyright holder if you did not create this image) submitted a statement of permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. Though there is often a backlog processing messages received at this address, we should have received your message by now.
If we don't hear from you within one week, the file will be deleted. If we can help you, please feel free to ask at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- B-bot ( talk) 15:34, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Hello,
I'm contacting you about an article that you declined to publish that I created. The article in question is Draft:Dez_Cleo ( /info/en/?search=Draft:Dez_Cleo), I've provided links to independent websites citing articles about Dez Cleo as either an interview of the artist or a review of her music, I'm not sure sure why these are not being considered as reliable and failing the 'significant coverage' criteria. I have noticed other articles that have been apparently approved with less or similar citations on Wikipedia, I have listed these below. Clarifications on why some of these pages' citations are only from IMDB and considered 'Reliable' and not why that same criteria isn't being used to justify my article would be very helpful in understanding this ambiguous approval process.
Thank You.

Hi Julie! You recently reviewed my submission for EIP which wasn't accepted owing to the lack of corporate notability. I'd be super grateful if you can give me your opinion on a couple of points below.
a) I used the primary criteria check box tool to see if the references establish corporate notability. Can you please let me know which criteria were not met in the references and, if any, which references were best? b) I have noticed that most comparable firms with articles have references that don't seem to meet the corporate notability criteria. Take Bristows for example (but it's true for almost every article in the IP firm category too!). The references are of awards and rankings, mentions in court cases, and content from the company website - coverage that EIP appears to have in similar abundance. Should any of these IP firms have Wikipedia articles based on the guidelines or is there something I missed in my submission?
I think EIP needs an article, so I really appreciate your time and any thoughts/advice you have. Cheers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hambroave ( talk • contribs) 08:36, December 7, 2020 (UTC) & — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hambroave ( talk • contribs) 08:39, December 7, 2020 (UTC)

Hello JSFarman,
It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.
Rank | Username | Num reviews | Log |
---|---|---|---|
1 | DannyS712 bot III ( talk) | 67,552 | Patrol Page Curation |

9 | Hughesdarren ( talk) | 4,520 | Patrol Page Curation |
10 | Utopes ( talk) | 3,958 | Patrol Page Curation |
John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.
As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Hi,
I tried to be very factual, I took your feedback into account. Can you please explain to me how I can factual report that Dianna Cohen was interviewed in a Seaspiracy about the fishing equipment plastic? She is the CEO of one of the major NGO on that topic and the documentary was part of the top 10 views of Netflix. I fail to understand why that would be a poor source, why that would be defamatory if I only report what the documentary shows. Finally everybody seems to be ok to mention that Dianna Cohen surfs even though she is hardly important in the surfing community, however you don't think it's important to mention her view on plastics, even though she is an important figure in the movement to remove plastic from our lives? Help me understand please instead of threatening me. Accolondegaule ( talk) 11:20, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
JSFarman Ok, I understand. Just to be clear, not once did I think that she was in the pocket of the fishing industry, but simply that her priorities were wrong. That said, I hear your point about the reliability of the documentary and will let it go.
Accolondegaule, I hope you stick around. Hi JSFarman, I'm only now catching up on my Wiki projects and saw your comments. I feel stuck at the moment in my work on the page and wondered if you may be able to give me a hand with changing some of the language? I read through the link you sent over, but I really seem to be struggling to see how to formalise some of my language used. I've changed the structure of the page today, so the Critical Reception isn't interwoven in the main body. Hopefully this formalises the page a touch and makes it seem more impartial (as it is). I realise you mentioned that you knew Chuck in another lifetime, so I wouldn't ask you to edit any of the actual content, but just grammatically and syntactically it would be so helpful! If not, do not worry. Have a lovely day!

Hello User:JSFarman. I work with Black Girls Rock!, and therefore have a conflict of interest (COI) relationship. The organization is now much more than an awards show, so this article is quite out of date. I believe in adhering to the Wikipedia rules, so I’m looking for an editor that can help me improve this page. I was wondering if you might find it a good use of your time to help with article improvements? I look forward to your reply. Thank you, G Smiley BGR ( talk) 16:29, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the compliment on this new page. Glad you liked it.
I came to it by reading a Dan Chaon novel, thinking about improving his page, and as I read about him realizing that his wife's page was inappropriately missing, with a lot to say there. I still may improve his page, later.
I suggested some to-dos on the talk page for Sheila - I generally don't mess with pictures & infoboxes, for example. Sullidav ( talk) 01:18, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
Hi Julie. I work for Peter Arnell, and recently created drafts for him and for Arnell Group. Of course, I can't publish them myself due to my COI, but am looking to collaborate with others to ensure the pages meet Wikipedia's standards. I noted that you are interested in media and advertising, and that you are very active in the new pages arena, so was hoping you could take a look. Thanks! Hello JSFarman,
Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.
Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.
At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.
There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.
Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Hi Julie,
Please help me so that we can improve our sources to meet the base level to meet your criteria. All of our references except our band site and label are independent sources over which we have no influence. We were mentioned in two more online publications this week one in France and the other in Germany.
We keep getting: "None of the references currently used are valid; they must be via reliable, independent sources, and extensive coverage specifically about Nocturnal Omissions is required."
In an attempt to compare it against the artist with an album with our band name, We have significantly more independent sources.
For your requirements, we only really meet some: [Done] Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself.[note 1] [Done] This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, online versions of print media, and television documentaries[note 2] except for the

We have been featured on the radio in the UK, US and are currently in rotation in Brazil and on Latin America radio. - Has been placed in rotation nationally by a major radio or music television network. - Brazil and Columbia, a few weeks on one UK station. - Has been a featured subject of a substantial broadcast segment across a national radio or television network.
Allmusic.com also confirms that our discography is being added to their catalog and once up, I can reference that also.
As this becomes Dream So Real's only credible source, would it be an appropriate enough source for us to use?

You recently cited that the page does not have enough external sources to qualify as notable. Although multiple sources are listed can you clarify as we also cited multiple articles and other wiki pages? After the last round, we spoke to the live chat team and they mentioned his work as a scholar. Below are several examples of other scholars within Wikipedia with similar or less references. We are just not clear as Dr Bush has been a celebrity since his Venom ER days which we also listed in his filmography section.

Good morning Ms. Julie! I completed my Adam Sanders article and moved it to the mainspace. After I did that, there's a note on his talk page that says that he had an article written in 2014 and deleted in 2015. The note says "concern was: Sources do not mention Adam or are not reliable. iTunes charts are not relevant per WP:BAND. No secondary sourcing found at all." I don't think that there's a problem with notability or reliable sources today. He has articles in American Songwriter, Rolling Stone, and People magazine. I used 29 sources in the article. What do I need to do with or about the note on the talk page? Cteddie1 ( talk) 14:52, 4 November 2021 (UTC)cteddie1

Hi Julie,
I just wanted to thank you for creating an article on Remble, since he's been owed one for well over a year now. I also wanted to mention that there are some (racist, IMO) editors on here who have fought to keep articles for newer / rising rap talent off the site, including Remble. Maybe you'll encounter them? Maybe they'll be placated by the LA Times feature about him.
Pages for Remble in the past had been proposed and rejected, despite him having millions of plays on huge platforms like Spotify, Youtube and TikTok. I'm not an editor or an expert on wikipedia and don't care to be, but hopefully there are eds on here can address the clearly racist gatekeeping that goes on here.
Said differently: it really, really shouldn't take an LA Times feature about an artist who already had a huge fanbase to get them a page on here. Especially when there are literally thousands of pages for middling indie bands nobody listens to, obscure anime characters and Family Guy episodes.
To be clear: I don't work for Remble or know him. I'm just a cranky music fan and reader of Wikipedia. I like his music okay and was annoyed when I tried to read more about him on here only to find editors on here actively worked to keep him off the site.

Should I delete CD Baby from the Discography.
In my heart I know that "Brent Swanner" and "Testify (Christian band)" have the notoriety to be on Wikipedia. They were very popular between 1996 and 2005 and I can remember seeing articles & album reviews in Christian Magazines and their name in Gospel Music Charts. But all of that seems to be gone from the internet now. And when I do get close to something I run into a Pay Wall.

There is a magazine called "The Singing News". Everything before 2015 seems to be deleted from their website. There was also a magazine called "The Gospel Voice" that I can remember had some album reviews and a couple/few articles but I can't find it anymore. I guess they went out of of business. Hello JSFarman,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 809 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 861 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Hello JSFarman,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000 [a] at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size. [b]
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
There is a new template available, {{
NPP backlog}}
, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:
Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 15122 articles, as of 10:00, 28 April 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot
There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Hello JSFarman,
After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.
Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Hello Julie, I hope you are doing well. I am glad to have a chance to contact to you. These days I am more active on Wikipedia. I am editing and creating new articles here in English Wikipedia. But I see now it takes long for articles to get reviewed. I think that's because of the large number of articles are being created than before.
I would like to ask your help to advise me some to improve the quality of the articles I have created so they can get reviewed further. I am listing three articles under this message for your review and feedback so you can check them out when you have time for them.
I look forward to receiving your suggestions Thank you so much

Hello JSFarman,
Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.
Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.
Suggestions:
Backlog:
Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review
the candidates and submit your choices on the

Hello JSFarman,
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly
explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your
common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js
to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Hi :JSFarman I have written and edited this draft about a New York artist, "David Gonzalez" who is a bit difficult to classify (musician, poet, actor, teacher ....?) I have found references from independent sources of great relevance such as the New York Times, Washington Post and other news. I have seen that you are on the AfC participant list, and you have specialized in music. I ask you the great favor if you can review this article, thank you very much. Together we all make a better Wikipedia Miskito89 ( talk) 10:02, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
Hello again
JSFarman, thank you very much for giving me guidance to improve David Gonzalez's article. I have introduced new data about his works and about his role as an artist (musician, poet, actor...)
I have also found dates and made a chronology of his most important shows, I have also found out in which way he collaborated with other musicians and in which concrete projects and in which theaters, etc.
I have also included some personal anecdotes extracted from his interviews. And some outstanding phrase or quote from the NYT and some poet.
I hope you can review it, that now it will be more enjoyable and easier to read and worthy of Wikipedia.
Something that I still think is not completely solved is the title; as there are so many people (athletes, politicians etc) with the name David Gonzalez, what do you think should be the concept by which it appears in parentheses?
David Gonzalez (artist) or David Gonzalez (multi-disciplinary artist)? Thank you very much for your help

Hallo JSFarman, I moved the article about the Pasticceria Boccione, removing the article "il", which in reality is non existent. I was actually shocked to find an english wikipedia article about a place I've been going to since I was a kid, but such is the way the world goes. Actually this is not a "Pasticceria", but a "Forno", since their products are quite rustic, but I suppose that the hags working there would not accept that change, and it's better to have them as friends than as enemies. Hello JSFarman,
Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Hello, I noticed you recently rejected my article for creation on the HeartMath Institute, citing concerns about neutrality. Writing a neutral article about pseudoscience is difficult, and there's often a tension between accurately portraying the scientific consensus and being fair to the alternative view. I attempted to model my article after the articles on parapsychology and energy medicine, which are the main areas of research the organization engages in. I think my article read quite similarly to these existing ones, but I can understand why that would seem biased as they are unambiguous in conveying the scientific consensus.
I removed a few of the sentences that I think may have made it seem slanted, and I would ask you to reconsider the article with those edits. If it's still problematic, I'd appreciate some more specific feedback on how it can be improved. An early version of this draft was marked for deletion because someone erroneously thought it was self-promotion, which is part of the reason I added the contextualizing statements I did. I'm not sure where the middle ground is. Chase Kanipe ( talk) 18:58, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Hello JSFarman,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

I try to submit this article: I submitted it wrong because of watching YouTube videos so the proofreader suggested to use my nickname, not the name like PeterFitzpatrick. So I used the guidelines that the Wiki proofreader send me (many thanks to them), and I also spoke in Wiki live chat that there might be a few reasons:

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote.
If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review
the candidates and submit your choices on the
voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{

Hi @ JSFarman. Someone suggested that change "Label" to "Distributor" or something. Your comments are appreciated. Regards. 2001:D08:2941:613:17AD:95F7:2728:56E1 ( talk) 13:07, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi there! In a recent mass message that you sent, there were multiple syntax errors ( Linter errors, specifically, including obsolete tags and inline tags wrapping block content). Can you please visit Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks and ask the helpful editors there to apply these same fixes to all of the pages that the message was delivered to? And if you will be composing future messages from the boilerplate text that you used for this one, please make a note of these updates. I'll be happy to take a look at anything you have written before you send it out. Thanks. – Jonesey95 ( talk) 22:06, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
Hi! I found you by looking at the view history of the Nile Rodgers page, because I was admiring the writing! I have been involved in Wikipedia for quite some time and do organizing for Meta:Wikimedia LGBT+ and Queering Wikipedia 2023 recently. I will be in L.A. towards the end of Feb, and I'd love to meet up and discuss Wikipedia and writing if you are around. My email is dorothy@wmlgbt.org Hexatekin ( talk) 21:38, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
I know what you mean about pings and the yellow bar of super cringe. I'm usually like oh shit what have I done, lol. As for the draft, glad to know you are hyped about it. Sometimes I hesitate about pinging folks who I think can help because I don't want anyone to feel obligated. S0091 ( talk) 18:53, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
I said I'd leave a message on your talk page, as it is very much likely I will be there this Saturday. I have never been at a Wikipedia meetup before, so I'm excited for this! ShticktatorTal ( talk) 04:47, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for hosting the edit-a-thon in West Hollywood. The turnout was outstanding, and hopefully the new editors will becoming meaninful productive contributors in whatever endeavor they apply themselves on Wikipedia and elsewhere. It was great seeing you again. RightCowLeftCoast ( Moo) 11:25, 18 February 2024 (UTC) |

I published this article recently - Draft:J.M.I. Recordings - and it was speedy deleted. I'm wondering if you might be able to review it this time around before I publish it again? Record labels seems a little tricky to have published sources where it is a primary subject, because most of the articles that discuss the label are discussing particular albums or artists the label has produced.. Hi! I notice you RSVP'd to my event this weekend. Would you be willing to lead a short tutorial for participants who are new to Wikipedia? I've done some editing sporadically over the years but would love some support from a real Wikipedian.

Hello JSFarman,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Hi @ JSFarman. Take a look for which one you prefer at the "Release history" table: "Distributor", "Licensee", "Marketer" or "Promoter". 2001:D08:2910:4C95:17C3:914F:D77C:7595 ( talk) 04:01, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi! Thank you for looking over and commenting on my AfC submission for The Smubbs. As of right now, I'm a little bit confused on how to satisfy your request — as far as I can tell, every multi-paged source has an attached page number leading to the mention of the article's subject. Instead, is there some way to have the source's url link to a specific page on a pdf?
Hope I'm doing this right! Chroikey ( talk) 00:45, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi JSFarman, in the past you had helped with some changes related to the CEO of Walmart International on the Walmart article I had requested. I made some similar requests on the Sam's Club Talk page and I was hoping you might take a look. I'd really appreciate it! Cheers TJ at Walmart ( talk) 14:58, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
