Welcome!

Hi, Internedko, Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello, and welcome to the ranks of Wikipedians! My name is BorgQueen, one of very many Wikipedians around here, and let me be the first to welcome you here. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page. And don't worry—you may well have a bunch of questions after that avalanche of info I just threw at you. Yeah, Wikipedia has a bit of a culture and etiquette of its own, but you get used to it!

Additional tips

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

 • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
 • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Using the four tildes to sign your sig is policy whenever you make comments on a talk page or vote on something.
 • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
 • You should also consider (if you have not already) creating a user page for yourself, to tell us a bit about you. Don't worry if it's small at first -- most people tend to grow their user pages over a period of time, much like Wikipedia articles. Don't expect everything to happen all at once!
 • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the articles for deletion page. If you think a page should be moved to a different title, please list it at requested moves.
 • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
 • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

Happy Wiki-ing.

Hi. The ethnicity of the two brothers is not disputed by anyone, except the people who misinterpret the term "Slavic Brothers". I agree that Byzantine is synonymous to medieval Greek, but most of the sources refer to them simply as 'Greek', since Byzantine is an artificial term. There's been a wide discussion about this already where sources were provided and a consensus was reached. So please try to keep the article NPOV. Miskin 12:54, 24 May 2006 (UTC) reply

I never denied that the Greek brothers were important to the Slavic people Nedko, however that doesn't mean that we have to lie about their ethnicity now does it? You assume that they mean nothing to the Greeks, that's not at all true. Much of the history of the Byzantine Empire would have been different if the Greek missionaries hadn't spread Orthodoxy and Letters to the Slavs. They probably the most important figures in the Greek Orthodox Church, which is in fact the primary cultural Greek institution. Furthermore you say that the article contains inacurracies. You're free to make edits in order to improve the article, as long as you provide credible sources. It's not allowed to make unsupported edits in wikipedia. Britannica for example claims that Cyril and Methodius created the Glagolitic and Slavonic alphabet. Whether that's correct or not is none of wikipedia's concerns. Wikipedia's main concern is to reflect the academic consensus, and not to question its validity. Regards. link to iranian

Hello, when you want to link to the article about something Iranian, please do not link to Iranian, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as Iranian people, or Iran, by writing out Iran or Iranian. Bagatur etymology

This word is of clear "Turkic" etymology

bagatur is pronounced baatur due to the Turkic soft g the g is not pronounced, the word derives from comes form "bagater "baga" pronounced baa (emphasised a) due to soft G means young/brave/heroic man "er" means soldier/conquerer. The word means "the man who conquers"/Hero, brave person.

It entered Persian at a later date due to the Turkic migrations into Iran. Its also used in Russia "Bogatyr", in Indian language "Bahadur" is used and "Bahaduri" means bravery. All these areas have had a heavy Turkic presence and rule.

The confusion made by linking it to Iranian etymology is hence;

Iranian bhaga, god. Cf. Baghdad, god-given in Iranian.

The early exact Iranian word is 'bege' and not 'baga'. Old Iranian sound system tends to rely on 'a' rather than 'aa'. Consider English terms 'back' and 'water' where the first one is close to Iranian. Anyhow, the word should be devided to two parts: be+ge. An 'r' existed in the ending of the first part. It was ber+ge. And 'ge' is the slighter form and equal to German use of 'ke'. Totally together, the word is 'berge' which means 'great' in old Iranian texts. It was used to describe a great quantity or quality. 'Baga' is just a later distinction from the orignal version 'berge'.

1. The Iranian meaning of Bhaga is "God"- "God Given", this is not what "Bagatur" means, the meanings arn't related.

2. The original Iranian pronounciation of the word was "Berge" which is totally different to "Baga"-"Baa"

There is no evidence of "Bagatur" being used in Iranian languages before the large Turkic migrations and spread of power.

There are references referring to GokTurk leaders as "Bagatur", a Khazar Khan was called Bagatur, its used in all Turkic languages from Siberia to Turkey.

Regards

I reverted your change here. As I'm sure you're aware, the name 'Macedonia' is ambiguous, and while both you and I are a able to distinguish between the varying meanings using only the power of our minds, there are other users who are not so fortunate. There is only one group of people who are called ethnic Macedonians, so that should stay. It is unambiguous. - Francis Tyers · 08:54, 4 April 2007 (UTC) reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:GERB1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:GERB1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot ( talk) 14:44, 2 January 2008 (UTC) reply

Image:Atanas_Burov.jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Atanas_Burov.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Kelly hi! 16:34, 31 March 2008 (UTC) reply

A tag has been placed on Tadeusz Kowalski (orientalist) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.  Blanchardb - MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 21:38, 8 March 2009 (UTC) reply

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Vasil Zlatarski.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:01, 30 May 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Bkell ( talk) 20:01, 30 May 2009 (UTC) reply

Bulgarian help needed

Hello Internedko, I'm contacting you because we need some Bulgarian translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on bg.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. I also need help with a personal message for the Bulgarian Wikipedians. If you are able to help in any way, either reply here, or head over to TranslationCentral.
