Time for a Malaysia Wikiproject!

Hi Earth, you are one of the more experienced Malaysian editors. What do you think about setting up a Malaysia wikiproject along the lines of the Indonesia one? I think our project has helped organize our articles and facilitated collaboration between editors, allowing us to make great strides. Would you and a few other Malaysian editors be interested in setting up a Malaysia wikiproject? It needn't be a huge amount of work to setup if you copy across the design for the Indonesia project. Where do I put this Image?

This is a picture of the KL Police HQ. If you know of any suitable article to place this picture in, then please do so. You can also change the licence if necessary. A better image would be appreciated since I seem to have taken it at the wrong time... -- Bruin_rrss23 (talk) 05:41, 17 March 2007 (UTC) reply

UPDATE: I have also taken a picture of the Maybank Tower. It has a better view, but the picture is of a lower quality than the other one in the article. Is it suitable enough? You might be able to take a better picture of the tower. Regarding the licence, it's quite suitable enough so there's no need to change it. -- Bruin_rrss23 (talk) 06:15, 17 March 2007 (UTC) reply

This article’s not in a very good condition but such a significant part of Indonesia, the cultural heart of the Javanese. Please contribute! Thanks to all those contributed to the previous collaboration Sidoarjo mud flow particularly Indon.

The next collaboration...

For the next collaboration in a fortnight, I’d like to try something different. Let’s chose a stub rather than an already well-developed article. Here is a list of Indonesian stubs to choose (there’s two pages). Please check the article's importance rating – let's chose an important and significant article that will appeal to a broad range of people. Please do not choose an obscure and/or esoteric topic that is not very important. Please place your nomination here.

Your revert in ketuanan Melayu

I'm sorry you misunderstood my edit and reverted it. My edit reasons are as follows:

  • The references from Jeff Ooi's blog given could not be reached. I tagged it so that a better citation can be given.
  • For Aliran, if it is a publication please put a precise citation format for it.
  • A source was cited twice, which was better if it shared the same source tags.
  • A citation must be accessible to everyone to verify its claims. The Malaysiakini link needed a reader to subscribe to it.

In Wikipedia, encyclopedic content must be verifiable. I can't verify a statement if I can't read the source given. The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. Good day. — Bluerです。 なにか? 12:28, 12 May 2007 (UTC) reply

You are dead wrong. Reference stripping is considered grossly antisocial behaviour and has attracted extreme penalties in past arbitration cases. Don't do it. - David Gerard 17:33, 15 May 2007 (UTC) reply
That these were subscription links is of course no reason to delete them--but they are dead links -- I may or course be wrong, but isn't that another matter--how do links that lead to no information contribute? (I'd suggest not deleting them, but commenting them out) DGG 19:04, 15 May 2007 (UTC) reply
Some of the links is available in periodical, despite dead link. The (deleted) reference provide the titles of that articles in the periodical. My main reason of wanting to keep them was to keep from losing the ref. The format maybe wrong but that best way is to turn it into proper format, not deleting it outright. After all, the article is a featured article. Any deletion might downgrade the article quality. __earth ( Talk) 19:08, 15 May 2007 (UTC) reply
if it had the reference to the print, then you are undoubtedly completely correct to keep it--the ref. to the print is, among other things, intended for this purpose. as for other dead links,I see it needs further discussion. DGG 05:02, 17 May 2007 (UTC) reply

Hello Earth,

You seem to have looked at the binary economics article and could only comment that it was weird, sounding like pseudoscience.

I am really surprised that you, interested in environmental issues and a keen recycler, found nothing remarkable in this economic theory apart from its "weirdness".

Reading a blog entry of yours I find this:

Economics somewhat completed my ideological transition and thanks to it, my political thinking reached some sort of maturity (still idealized nonetheless; not too matured still).

and am further surprised that you do not see much wrong with the dominant economics framework.

However misshapen the presentation of binary economics is in the wiki article, the new economic paradigm it offers can free the world from bad economics that is driving us to make a living on the planet by destroying it.

I hope you will not dismiss me for my obvious lack of NPOV, but looking at the world in turmoil at the start of a new century (at the age of 70) makes me sad (no longer angry).

I think that too many words bury the truth, so I come to my point (which is not necessarily to do with binary economics):

All the environmental, social, and political problems facing the modern world are symptoms of bad economics. Neoclassical economics has gutted political economy by making the most important factor of production -- land -- disappear under "the skirt of capital" (The Corruption of Economics, Gaffney and Harrison (1994)). How can we hope to stop abusing the earth if economics does not see natural resources (land as living space being one category) as a special, primary factor on which the other two depend for their meaning and existence?

Thanks for listening. -- Janosabel 14:29, 28 May 2007 (UTC) reply

So, Earth, you find it weird. Four universities have made agreements to teach the subject and about ten are likely to want to in the immediate future. Are they weird as well?

External link deletion for perak

Hi Earth, i have some question on the external link and need to understand from you the reason for the deletion for perak.info. www.Perak.info containing information for perak state. If you really browse through the website, there are lots of useful information about Perak State. Is there any reason you delete the link? Under which rules allowed you to delete the link? Thanks Regards --KeithChee 14:19, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Earth, what do you mean by above? Are you trying to warming me or what? I'm trying to be polite and please be polite too. I'm here for discussion. I do nothing wrong here and I'm not affraid to stamp my name in every action i have done. You haven't answer me why you consider www.perak.info as spam and delete it? If you check the website content, it is all about the perak state information and not in the Perak . The website match WP:LINKS criteria. How to you charge on it? Thanks --KeithChee 04:54, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Just my two cents. I suspect that the sites were removed because they can be construed as falling under the criteria of Links to sites with objectionable amounts of advertising in WP:LINKS. Almost all the pages that I visited in www.perak.info contains some generic information about the State and seems primarily to consist of Google Adsense links; which I suspect is the main reason why this site along with a few others that I've seen around have been posted on Wikipedia articles. - Bob K 05:17, 31 May 2007 (UTC) reply
Thanks Bob. Just want to have some discussion. How about __earth? Earth put his own external link www.maddruid.com, probably a blog with google adsense and etc. Is this same case as www.perak.info and violate the rules? Anyone will take action on this? I just want to get some answer by comparing the content. Or does it mean google adsense is doesn't matter as long as the content is helpful? In this case, www.perak.info should be useful and helpful. Thanks --KeithChee 05:40, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't place my blog on Wikipedia articles; it is on my user page instead. You might be free to place your site on your own userpage. Besides, if you are connected to the site, read WP:COI. Therefore, the case is quite different. __earth ( Talk) 06:14, 31 May 2007 (UTC) reply
Thanks Earth, thanks for your reply. Here is my reply on your doubt
  1. Perak is not able to provide as many and up to data. Does Perak contain enough photos and info? i dont think so.
  2. if you didn't tell me that it's selling thing, i dont realise it. It only have a link to the store.
  3. Frankly speaking, I'm not the website owner. I got the URL from the web and i find it useful.
  4. I'm not sure about the adsense. As far as i understand is the website have lots of information about the perak state and it's more compare with perak official tourism website. i have check both. Please correct me if i'm wrong, else please advice if the website is suitable to put in wiki. thanks --KeithChee 06:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
  1. wiki Perak State should display all the information about Perak including travel. This is what i understand. If not, why Tourism Perak allowed to be in? Need your explanition.
  2. This is not my problem. I'm just want to be a contributor.
  3. Wiki is a place to share information. Useful information. If this is useful for me, i can share with others? Am i correct? Else if i think Perak state is not important in wiki, can i delete it? Definately cannot, right? I think we need to discuss your point 3, which is "You find it useful not it violates Wikipedia rules. So, it would be best if you use it for yourself.". Is this what wiki should be? Are you insulting me?
  4. Tourism Malaysia is more to official thing and not really give enough info on certain place. Perak.info do.
I want to get thing right and know what is the reason, you can based on your own judges but please be fair. --KeithChee 09:28, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia articles are supposed to be encyclopedic, not promotional in nature. Arguably one can say that historical and administrative information is more important and there isn't enough information of such as well. To quote from WP:5P; Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Wikipedia is not a trivia collection, a soapbox, a vanity publisher, an experiment in anarchy or democracy, or a web directory, nor is Wikipedia a dictionary, a newspaper, or a collection of source documents - Bob K 10:10, 31 May 2007 (UTC) reply
Thanks Bob K, That is why i put it as External link. I believe this external link can help wiki visitor to know more on Perak state. Perak.info containing history, culture, heritage, events & festivals, travel guide and etc. I believe this info can help wiki visitor to understand more on the term "Perak" in wiki.

Hi. I was curious if you could explain that... if the image is unfree then you should label it as such and have it put up for deletion... if it's not deleted as unfree then it should probably remain in the article. gren グレン 09:12, 13 July 2007 (UTC) reply

You may very well be right but you need to put it up for deletion because... it should be deleted if it's not in any articles and unfree... but, I don't think you should remove it unless you at least try to have the image deleted as a copyright violation. gren グレン 18:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC) reply

Thank you for making a report about 219.94.58.219 ( talk · contribs · block log) at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators generally only block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. In this case the editor has recieved no warnings. Hi, I entered the Khazanah Nasional public lecture yesterday which you deleted by saying its a one time event that gives too much emphasize on lecture whereas khazanah is a sovereign fund, not about organizer of public lecture. Although they are a sovereign fund, this public lectures do hold strong importance. I attended both the Kofi Annan And Prof Yunus lectures and I can assure you this event goes along with Khzanah Nashional's role in the country. If you just walk around near KLCC or attend any of the next lectures you will understand what it is more than just a "one time event". And after your visit to any of them, if you still feel it doesn't deserve a place, you can keep it deleted. And talking about one time event, why does wikipedia have entries on sept 11 ?

undoing of Sabah's Indepence Date

Why do you undo all the references, legal documents and school history books? The pretext that they are repetions is a fallacy. The fact that there are disputes as to the dates must be recorded but it is offical wikipedia policy to favour offical and legal documents over websites or news editorials as references.

I shall therefore undo what you've undone. If you insist on a war, then I shall refer you to wikipedia. Revamping bus route lists on railway station articles

If you haven't notice, there has been quite a number of tables of bus routes added in articles on railway stations by some anon on a rotating IP, including those of the local LRTs and Monorail. It's not so much the usefulness but rather the proportion of the table against the rest of the article, which often drawfs more relevant info on the stations (ie KLCC LRT station), all while list of RapidKL bus routes could be used as a centralised article, while all the redundancy could be minimised into links of routes (ie 66th Street–Lincoln Center (IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line)).
