I like the image, but it appears really dark. Would it be possible to perhaps lighten up the 5 montage photos perhaps? Good work though! :) Wikibofh 22:01, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
One thing I noticed is that the globe seems to stand off from the rest of the pics because of the black space. perhaps if it could be rotated or a similar image that has the black on the outside. Same with WWI pic. say1988
Also, a couple more pics would be nice on the WWII front page.
Don't take my sugestions into too much consideration. As I said, I don't really know anything about pictures and what makes a montage good. I just replied to begin with since that picture was basicly all black on my screen. But now it's so much better ;-).
Regarding chats: Yes, there are Wikipedia:IRC channels where lots of people hang out. I haven't been there much myself lately, though, but I believe you can get in touch with many dedikated and experienced wikipedians there.
Then there are lots of forums and projects here on wikipedia where you can get in touch with people quite quicly for oppinions and questions/discussions etc. For instance, I'd guess that Wikipedia:WikiProject Photography and Wikipedia:WikiProject Illustration would be of interest to you. Technical questions will normaly be answered quickly on Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) and there is also Wikipedia:Village pump (assistance) for general assistance things.
Hope that answers your questions ;-). Shanes 00:53, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
If you do one for WWI, I have suggestions, but I am not good with pictures and cant do anything more than tell you, so here they are,
These are a lot more ideas than could be incorporated and some images are missing, eastern front, aftermath/peace, homefront, causes could all be included. I personally think this would very much help the WWI page. I would try to do it myself, but I wouldn’t know how. There are also probably better images, but this is what I found and should give you a good idea of what I think would be good and hopefully lead to some ideas of your own. I hope you do this, and thank you in advance. And thanks for doing the WWII image, it is fairly good, but I have made a few suggestions the WWII talk page. say1988 02:47, July 29, 2005 (UTC)
There has been some discussion of this image. Can you improve the image (JPEG artifacts mainly)? LoopZilla 07:18:44, 2005-07-29 (UTC)
The en dash is used to denote elision in an element that forms a range, e.g., 1991–98. It is also sometimes used in place of a hyphen in a compound adjective when one of its elements is an open compound, e.g., post–World War II Europe. —Wayward 03:41, August 1, 2005 (UTC)
An em dash is about the width of the letter M. To be more specific, it's a typographic measurement: If we were setting eight-point type, then an "em" would be eight points wide. Em dashes are used to set off amplifying or explanatory elements, e.g., "My friends—that is, my former friends—ganged up on me." The em dash has a few various other uses, but this is the main one. —Wayward 23:22, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Dennis
Thanks for your comments on my talk page. I'm not actually as much of a contributor to World War II as you might think. It's an area I know something about, but I look on myself more as an editor than a contributor there. I see my task there to keep the page neutral and to keep its size down, especially to cut out anything too detailed and move it to a more appropriate page. With a subject like that I find there is always someone who wants some particular aspect of the war emphasised at the expense of everything else. In general I think the page is pretty OK as it stands, which is why I'm not that worried about the rewrite. I glanced at the rewrite and it wasn't that different when I looked. If it never replaces the original I won't be surprised or too disappointed.
Incidentally, if you are interested in WWII there are lots of article about particular battles and campaigns, even surprisingly major ones, that have very short and bad articles. It was only a year or so ago that I expanded the whole of the Italian Campaign from being a very short stub. DJ Clayworth 02:53, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
OK, that was me not paying attention. All my comments above were based on the last time I looked at the 'temp' rewrite of WWII. The new version of the article is much better than the old. The straight-line chronology makes a big difference. Very good work. DJ Clayworth 13:46, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

Hello. Those montage images you made for the WW2 and WW1 articles are very nice I must say. Perhaps you would be interested in making two similiar images with translated the text to Swedish ("Andra världskriget" and "Första världskriget" respectiveley), to be used at the Swedish wikipedia? That would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. / Jebur 01:56, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi Dennis:
I am a newcomer to Wikipedia. During the past week I have posted some points to the discussion page on World War 2 casualties. If you get a chance please take a chance to review my comments. Thanks, Barney Dombrowski User:berndd11222
Sorry for the late reply. From a quick glance the template looks good, and I like the idea of having similar looking templates for the two world wars. I don't know that much about World War 1, though, so I don't know how much help I can be. But if I find anything missing or see potential improvements, I'll edit or put a note about it on the template talk-page. Shanes 23:41, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
I have made a major update to the schedule of WW2 casualties. I welcome comments and corrections. The data for Asia with the exception of Japan is from the works of RJ Rummel and is less reliable than data for losses in Europe that are better documented. My hope is that Wikipedians who read Asian languages can update and elaborate on the losses related to WW2 in Asia-- Berndd11222 13:24, 24 October 2005 (UTC) Barney Dombrowski
hello,i believe that the soviet union by 1944 had absolute to take power to control europe without the help of U.S.A.I believe that the russians kept asking U.S.A. for another front ,because they endured a lot of combat and suffered a lot of causualties. When D-day happened the soviets were already took poland and started to march to berlin .with more than 200,000 forces led by marshal zukov that made the remaining 75,000 troops retreat to berlin .I can say that D-day till today is remembered as the finest honor of these courageous men who died that day.D-day led to liberating france and also led to the last german offensive Which was the battle of the Bulge, but still i believe the russians could of liberated europe with no help .
Sadly, or rather gladly, we will never know the correct answer. Regards, Dennis Nilsson.

Hi, in case you're not watching Wikipedia:Village_pump_(assistance)#How_do_I_.28easily.29_right-align_columns_in_tables.3F, just thought I'd let you know that there is no easy way to right-align (or center) columns. It's not supported by the wiki-pipe syntax at the moment. You have to individually align each cell. See Help:Table. HTH -- pfctdayelise 14:52, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

DENNIS SOMEBODY JUST DELETED THE HOLOCAUST PAGE.-- Berndd11222 15:33, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
The collages you made for the WW-articles were both very good compromises for lead pics, but the insertion of "titles" makes them both look like movie posters for Hollywood productions. It makes them seem needlessly gaudy and tactless, and brings on the connotation of war as adventure and entertainment. These pictures simply don't need to explain themselves and I would appreciate if you could upload versions that consisted of just the photos without any text.

You have tagged this image with a cc-sa 2.5 license. This license grants the right "to make commercial use of the work." You have also written a declaration that the work may not be commercially used. This stipulation is in direct contradiction to the license. Hi man:) I´ve seen you´ve deleted the Operation Anthropoid from the WWII template. I realize that it is not so known operation - so I agree that it probably shouldnt be in the template, but it isn´t so unsignificant as you wrote:) Heydrich was one of the most important Nazi - the youngest one and the most perspective one - and in the time of the operation Germany was winning in all the battle fields (this assassination was something like first (psychological) defeat. That´s only FYI - I know it isn´t the same "action" like Hiroshima;) regards User:Szalas
Hi Dennis:
I have done extensive work on OB and weapons production in WW2, including the German FHO documents in Washington DC. The files are all hand written because the work was done from 1985 to 1994. My work on WW2 casualties could be expanded to include an annual " Military Balance" from 1938 to 1945. In in format similar to the ISS annual report we could summarize the military and economic data for each of the major combatants. For example in Jan. 1943 what were the military forces of Nation X, where were they deployed. What weapons were produced and how many were lost in the prior year. What were force levels and how many casualties were sustained. If you have any ideas on future projects in this area please drop me a line.--
Berndd11222 21:56, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
I am thinking of a seperate new page that would encompass the entire scope of data for the major powers US, UK, USSR, Germany, Japan & Italy and would include a summary of data by year in a format similar to the ISS Military Balance( I have been getting this for 36 years). One
page that will summarize all the, OB, deployments, economy and weapons production for each year of the war including data on the losses in each major battle. This is a big project that will reqiure the work of serious folks that want to get the correct data and cite the sources. I wonder if other people on Wikipedia would want to work on this. Anyway the page on weapons production is hallow, real bear bones data with no sources.
61 years ago my father was with the US Army in the Battle of the Bulge. Today he is buried in the US Vetrans Cemetary in Long Island.--

hi dennis do you know what caused worldwar2 and tell me who started it thank you User:4.237.41.22
Cause of WWII: The common view ties the causes to the expansionism of Germany and Japan; Germany wanting to regain the power lost after World War I and Japan wanting to become an Asian superpower. There is also an issue of natural resources; Germany wanted to become self-dependent by expansion into East Europe, and Japan wanted to secure additional sources of oil, iron etc. Furthermore, we also have a rather complex clash of ideologies:
Axis: In Germany, the Nazi ideology was very much based on a "Darwinistic" war of the races (the strong should defeat the weak), Italy had a policy of authoritarian Fascism and Japan had a militarist leadership with almost totalitarian control.
Allies: The ideologies of Britain and USA were very much in contrast to the Axis, since they were based on democracy, which included liberalism and capitalism. And to complicate it further, the Soviet Union had the policy of dictatorial communism. The "only" thing which bonded the Soviet Union with the other Allies, was that they had common enemies.
Very generally, one could say the cause was imperialism on all parts, with Germany, Italy and Japan wanting to expand their spheres of influence, and Britain, Soviet Union and USA wanting to defend their spheres of influence. Anyway, this is just a crude way to try to summarize it. For more information, I recommend the following articles:
Causes of World War II, Events preceding World War II in Europe, Events preceding World War II in Asia.
Who started WWII?: On which date World War II started is a debated subject; but the most common date used is 1 September 1939, marking the German invasion of Poland which resulted in the British and French declarations of war two days later. Other candidates include the Japanese invasion of China on 7 July 1937 (the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War).
I hope this crude summary answers your question somewhat. For more information, see the article World War II. There is much information and many links to subarticles.

I was wondering, if you have an original (raster or vector) form of this image, if you could provide it in either PNG or perhaps SVG format? Either format should be significantly smaller in filesize than the JPEG currently used (and would also be lossless, whereas even at the highest quality setting JPEG introduces small artifacts). c 00:51, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Awesome images, I merely had a question whether the second room you mark as "Goebbels Family" represents Magda's quarters, or whether that's the (spurious?) third bunkbed? "After The Battle, No.61, Special Edition (Editor Winston G. Ramsey and researcher Tom Posch.)" The magazine is subtitled "The Reichs Chancellery" and "The Berlin Bunker Then And Now".
Yes, it has been deleted. I didn't know about it and right now don't have any opinion on if it was the right thing to do. But the page was deleted after this discussion and vote Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of people associated with World War II. It was deleted today (at 08:24) by User:Babajobu who was the admin closing the vote and deciding to delete it based on the vote. Reading the votes it looks like he did what the majority wanted. But this doesn't have to mean it was right. Many pages are deleted simply because the people voting didn't know better. If you want it undeleted you have to nominate it for such and go through a new voting session, but I doub't it will be undeleted any time soon, given the fairly clear majority wanting it deleted in the very recent vote.
But if you just want to see the content of that page, I can fix that by temporarely restoring it on some place for you to see it and get to the content. The page had had 488 edits when it was deleted. Shanes 21:55, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Someone left a note on Talk:World War II casualties feeling outraged over the ommission of Yugoslavia in your allied military dead pie chart. And looking at the numbers, it looks like Yougoslavia should indeed be mentioned. They had more military deaths than many countries now listed. Is it easy for you to make an updated pie-chart? I'm not sure if other numbers have changed since you made that chart, Berndd (aka User:Woogie10w) has made a few adjustments and additions lately, so checking the percentages in the rest of the pie-chart is probably best. Generally, I think we should keep the montage as it is, with its new license as cc-2. I think it is highly unlikely that there should be any problems (but I'm no expert on copyright stuff). Rather than deleting this montage image, it is better that I make changes to it, if problems, however unlikely, arise.

hi, rather than delete this picture it should be at the top "the key picture", as this represents the end of the Nazi, for which some 30,000,000 + Russiand died, taking thev full brunt of the Nazi war machine and destroying it, it represents the Victory of Mother Russia and the women of the USSR as well as the men of the Glorious Red Army who smashed the German Terrorists and this picture tells that story the Nazi beast is dead burned in the ruins of Berlin rather than face the just rath of the people of the FREE world. While D-day as Churchill said at the time represented "the step back into Europe" and the "Step over Hitlers wall", a major milestone on the way but not an end in itself. and as a footnote, It is not the vetrens of the USSR who spend their time wailing and lamenting their great loss or their hurts, but the current bunch of Neo-Nazies - the Isralie, who should no better than what they are up to in the Mid-East. When the Yanks retire from or are beaten out of that region we can expect serious setteling of old scores that a few nukes will not stop. Isreal has learned nothing neither have their co-religious around the world. [they lost maybe 10,000,000 or less than 25% of the USSR losses so why the perpetual wailing and the Germans based on personal experiance - Kassel - are no better]. Please move this picture to Key location. I suggest other pictures for your mountage. Hi. Just thought someone on the WPCD team ought to know; the Honey bee article was flagged as WPCD material, but has been restructured; the article is intended as a general article (I give mouse as a perfect parallel example article), but had been essentially overrun by content that was only appropriate for the Western honey bee article. The content that was earmarked for inclusion in WPCD has, accordingly, been moved to the latter article. There are 7 species of honey bees, and the Honey bee article is for the group as a whole, not just for the one well-known species ( Apis mellifera"). This content shift is in keeping with the goals of both Wikiproject Arthropods and Wikiproject Beekeeping, and expect it will be kept this way in the future. It's unfortunate that the article was left the way it was for as long as it was, because a lot of links were made to that page that REALLY should be directing people elsewhere. It's going to take a while to get that straightened out. Dyanega 21:40, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi Dennis. In your recent edits of the above article in the 'Further Allied Advances' para you have implied that the defensive lines from the Volturno Line northwards were all part of the Winter Line. Now in the various literature there is a fair confusion as to what the Winter line was. Sometimes it is used as an alternative name for the Gustav Line, sometimes for the greater Gustav defenses including the Reinhardt and Adolf Hitler lines (currently the definition implied in the Wikipedia article on the Winter Line), sometimes it is all of these plus the Caesar line just south of Rome and its subsidiary Rome switch line!! However, I've never seen a reference which includes the lines south of these (ie the Volturno and Barbara lines). I've tended to assume the second option. If you can point me to a clarification of this I would be deleriously happy!! Otherwise I would propose to modify your edit to reflect the separateness of the Volturno and Barbara identities. Hello and thanks for the suggestion about the war box and campaign box. I did notice the convention, by the way, and it seems less logical than My Way (nice song!). It seems to me that the most general item should be first and then progress down to the more specific item; that is, Italian campaign at the top, specific battle beneath it. I'm not that passionate about it, though, one way or the other, so I'll change it to fit the convention sooner or later. I have to find some more information. Thanks for the comment.
