If you are still interested in this subject, please add to this effort. Cheers! BD2412 T 14:47, 9 January 2023 (UTC) reply

Many thanks for the heads up @ BD2412, As much as I want to help out there I'm not going to waste my time on this article just for some anti-porn admin to nominate it in 2 years time and it gets deleted again. Of course any article could be deleted after it's been sourced but ''that'' admin won't stop till it's deleted so respectfully I'd rather not waste my time with it, But thanks for the heads up I greatly appreciate it, Many thanks, Warm Regards, – Davey2010 Talk 23:45, 14 January 2023 (UTC) reply

Re. Waterloo Road split discussion

I was sorry to see that you didn't approve of my decision to close the split discussion at Talk:Waterloo Road (TV series). As I stated in the result, revisiting the discussion could be fruitful after the BBC has made some announcement on the future of the series, and that might be an opportune time for you to open a new split discussion, if you think that is the best way forward. _ MB190417_ ( talk) 12:39, 5 February 2023 (UTC) reply

Hi @ MB190417, I'll be honest I disagree with your close - If anything I felt there ''was'' consensus to move, I also disagreed with the fact you had !voted Support in that discussion and then closed it as No consensus, But apparently I'm the one that cares so meh, I'll start a new RFC at some point, Thanks, – Davey2010 Talk 13:36, 5 February 2023 (UTC) reply

Temu flag fixes

Hi, I have posted Talk:Temu (company)#Request for more clean up and removing flag to ask for fixes to the page about Temu (company), the most downloaded app in the United States the last few months. [1] These tiny fixes address the last issues needed to remove the flag. . I have a conflict of interest as an employee of Temu and I would very much appreciate it if you might have time to take a look. Since you are a member of the WikiProject for Internet Culture, I thought you might possibly be interested in this internet cultural moment. [2], [3]. This page is in need of careful expansion in compliance with Wikipedia policy (and there is plenty of press coverage) but getting rid of the last tiny policy violations is a good place to start.

Thanks in advance for your consideration! Snowy2000 ( talk) 02:09, 9 February 2023 (UTC) reply

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{ Ctopics/aware}} template.

Buses

Hi Davey2010 - just wanted to make sure you knew that when I said "you" I didn't mean you personally. I am just a little concerned with the current trend of people (imho needlessly) deleting articles all over the place. Someone just tried to delete Automotive timeline navboxes, I am sure a bunch of bus articles are next for the chopping block. Usually deletion discussions are not noticed until three editors have voted to delete, and to undelete can be near impossible.  Mr.choppers |  ✎  00:05, 27 May 2023 (UTC) reply

May 2023

Please familiarise your self with WP:SANDWICH that states: Multiple images can be staggered right and left. However, avoid sandwiching text between two images that face each other; or between an image and infobox. Addung images immediately to the left of the infobox as you are seeking to do is contrary to this section of the Manual of Style. Kermelei ( talk) 02:36, 29 May 2023 (UTC) reply

It's common for article text to be sandwiched there's not a lot one can do about it. I find it hilarious though that not only do you have this massive issue with galleries but now you have issues with one files too apparently. Either way take it to the talkpage and get consensus for your changes. – Davey2010 Talk 11:23, 29 May 2023 (UTC) reply

Image reversion rationale

@ Davey2010 To avoid potentially triggering WP:3RR and to hopefully get a bit of clarity, could you please explain your rationale in reverting this and so many other bus articles' images to prior versions?

I'll outline mine first: I personally believe that Wikipedia pages of buses should have, if they exist, in-service photos of the buses with their first operator and in as best physical state as possible. In this article's case, I say preserved buses stand as an adequate equivalent, too. As-new photographs (or photos in as-new condition) highlight elements of the bus as they were intended by the manufacturer shortly after it rolled out the factory. In my opinion, they also help provide context for the history of the bus type - i.e. by demonstrating them with the operator they were most commonly used by at the time they were relatively new.

I don't see why, therefore, we seemingly can't part with the images as they now stand here. Why the insistence of sticking with photos from 2006-2009 and onwards from when the buses were near the end of their service life/with second or third-hand operators, when new photos can be made available that better demonstrates them? And please, tell me what constitutes "fine", " better" or " no issue" in your edit summaries? What precedence does the photo of the back of a Paladin Dart have over a photo of a one-in-four Paladin Atlantean in this article?

Another point that I'd like to pick up on is that as a regular mobile user (i.e. both through browser on iPad and Wikipedia app on my phone), I'm very mindful of making these pages accessible for other mobile users. As @ Kermelei also probably disputes, this image reorienting you have undertaken with this article, as well as on, say, Alexander ALX400 (why have you added a new image, by the way?), is causing quite a bit of sandwiching of the main body of text. I'll admit, I've done some arguably weird orienting of images on this article before, but that was to avoid sandwiching text between image and infobox and demonstrate the Atlantean rebody under its own heading. I'd just be mindful about that as you go on.

Again, all I ask is that you explain what it is you are trying to do without just leaving it in the edit summary as "past images were fine" or something as vague as that. What's the rationale, here? Why not allow these new images to stand? Hullian111 ( talk) 06:37, 29 May 2023 (UTC) reply

Hi, In regards to the infobox - your image is too dark and you can't see a great deal whereas with the current one you can see the whole vehicle and it's obviously not dark
I apologise for removing the Leyland Atlantean image that was unintentional (I hadn't properly read the article so assumed it was just another image) - I've reinstated that image
As for sandwiching - What am I supposed to do ? ... I create a gallery and this guy removes it per WP:IG, So I add it to the text and now it's a sandwich issue and he has to remove them again. I've tried with him. Anyway I would care more over the sandwich issue if he wasn't all "removed gallery per IG". Yet again the ALX400 images were changed etc because of him - I had no real desire to add new images but was left with no option due to the article layout and him hating galleries – Davey2010 Talk 11:42, 29 May 2023 (UTC) reply
Now that I'm able to have the time to digest matters, I'll say that on the infobox image front... you raise a good point. I'll still try scouring for something from when the type was new, but I'll hopefully keep it in mind for the future.
The only real sticking point for me is the arrangement of images. Now I personally aren't a fan of galleries, either - there was once a particularly egregious example on the Humberside FRS page that eventually turned me against them in the end - and in their place, I'm in favour of a neat line-up of images that demonstrate variants of the bus type (though I'm also in favour of justifying imahes to the left in order to avoid an infobox, e.g. on Wright Eclipse Gemini). To take Alexander ALX400 as an example, I'm now sort-of seeing what you're trying to do by putting them underneath the relevant paragraphs, but having the images justified left and right all around the article kind of looks a bit messy and is prone to sandwiching on my end/smaller screens. Hence why I like to keep images on the right-hand side.
Would appreciate your feedback on the matter, hope it clarifies things so we can move on. Hullian111 ( talk) 17:19, 29 May 2023 (UTC) reply
When it comes to image replacements I always stick to one question/rule of thumb: Is it a real improvement over the one I'm replacing ? If I think no then it doesn't get replaced (i'll be honest that's happened once or twice), I don't like changing images for the sake of it,
In regards to the 400 - I'll be completely honest I agree with you it does look a mess, Unfortunately with your version [4] the London bus was in the references section which is something I try to avoid,
This version kinda works but as none of the images are matching to the text imho it still looks messy,
Out of everything tried so far I would say specifically for the ALX400 article the gallery worked better (I didn't like the gallery either and was by no means a fan of it but out of everything we've tried so far it seemed to work better),
That's a fair point I didn't give smaller devices a think, You're more than welcome to play around with it but being totally honest I don't think we're going to come to an agreement and don't really know the best way to solve this issue, Many thanks, Kind Regards – Davey2010 Talk 17:48, 29 May 2023 (UTC) reply
Yeah, clarification was really what I was after, to be honest. But I agree that we've both got our own schools of thought and that we've got our own preferences image-wise. I've always tried to keep images out of references sections, and that's half the work of me updating articles with deliveries, so to hear the DAF ALX400 was one such image - for comparison's sake, my main desktop screen for editing is a MacBook Pro - was a bit of a surprise.
Suppose I'll see what I can do with the ALX400 page, then. Maybe the way that gallery was first formatted felt a bit off, I don't know - WP:3O might be an interesting route to potentially go down on the matter. With this Paladin article, I'm trying to get some more sources together to expand on the other chassis variants, so you might have some more work cut out for you there.
Consider the matter (largely?) resolved for now, regards, Hullian111 ( talk) 18:34, 29 May 2023 (UTC) reply
Okie dokie, Thanks for coming here and discussing it it's much appreciated, Many thanks – Davey2010 Talk 18:54, 29 May 2023 (UTC) reply
To comment on the ALX400 revisions you've made since we've debated this - maybe we should've talked this over in your user talk, to be honest, this is getting a bit off-topic - I think the image layout looks quite satisfactory on my end. I'm a bit unsure still on the need for the pre-delivery Trident image, though. Maybe it could be replaced with an image of a Dublin Bus B7TL or, if you want to keep up consistency, this Trident? Hullian111 ( talk) 20:36, 29 May 2023 (UTC) reply
Hullian111, I've moved it all here as actually thought we were on the ALX400 talkpage! :)
I'll be honest at the time of adding the ALX400 images (many moons ago) and even now I wanted to show the side as these all vary between models and I just thought it was an interesting thing to see but I guess being interesting and being notable are 2 different things,
I'm pleased you're happy with the edits but ofcourse you're more than welcome to make your own - I'll add the DubinBus image tomorrow as it'll give me something to focus on,
Many thanks, – Davey2010 Talk 22:24, 29 May 2023 (UTC) reply

Note

Hi,

At this point, this is only just a suggestion. While Wikipedia is not censored, and we welcome lively collegiate debate, when commenting at AN/I, we tend to focus on calling out actions or behaviors. And calling someone a "coward", sounds like an attack to the person, and so, would seem to cross that line, and I'd like to respectfully suggest you might want to strike or refactor your comments. - jc37 00:32, 30 May 2023 (UTC) reply

Hi @ Jc37, I appreciate you taking the time to come here and politely ask me but with the upmost respect to yourself I'm afraid I'm declining your polite request,
The IP isn't a new user and didn't wonder to ANI randomly - I appreciate we aren't supposed to comment on individuals but I don't know what else you'd call someone who's making "The incivility is all the opposers fault" comments under an IP, The only genuine word I can think of to match that is "coward".
Despite that comment I'm genuinely not trying to cause more dramah but I wont sit here and allow comments such as "the vitriol being launched by some of those turning up here to defend TRM should be an issue as well" just because I opposed sanctions against TRM, I appreciate no names were mentioned but nonetheless I see it as a PA against myself. Have a great day JC, Kind Regards – Davey2010 Talk 00:58, 30 May 2023 (UTC) reply
You can still express all of that with most of your statement with out saying "...being a coward". There is a difference between calling one's actions "cowardly", and calling someone a "coward". And there are times, that that can be the difference between whether one gets sanctioned or not.
I chose to make this a suggestion here. But i'm not the only admin watching the discussion.
In any case, I hope you re-consider. - jc37 01:09, 30 May 2023 (UTC) reply
I actually didn't think of "cowardly" but I've took your feedback on board and will (hopefully not) apply that in future, Thanks, – Davey2010 Talk 11:51, 30 May 2023 (UTC) reply

"spammy author"

Hi, I see you removed a reference from John Wells (Royal Navy officer) with the edit summary "rm spammy author". What does this actually mean? I'm not immediately seeing why this author, who in this instance is published [5] by the academic Boydell & Brewer, should be removed? Happy to be corrected on why the author shouldn't be used if that's so, but please do a full job removing references if you're going to do it. Edits like [6] that remove the reference but not the inline citation just make the text/reference more confusing. Thanks, Pickersgill-Cunliffe ( talk) 18:06, 6 June 2023 (UTC) reply

Hi @ Pickersgill-Cunliffe, Back in I believe 2019 this author had spammed his books across a lot of articles - He was doing this as IPs and under a named account all of whom got blocked.
You say "please do a full job removing references if you're going to do it" which has left me confused - There's no reference errors and nothing was relying on that book? so i'm baffled but if I've broken something I would be happy to fix it, Thanks, – Davey2010 Talk 18:14, 6 June 2023 (UTC) reply
Hi, thanks for the explanation. I won't comment on the other articles you've removed the author from, but I'm going to replace him in John Wells because I was the author that added him there - there was no IP or sock involved! Re the referencing confusion, I mean that you removed the full reference, but left the inline citation in the text. Thus, for example in John Wells, citation #13 is still in the text but now leads to nowhere and tells the reader nothing. Pickersgill-Cunliffe ( talk) 18:16, 6 June 2023 (UTC) reply
Hi @ Pickersgill-Cunliffe, Unfortunately I don't know that - He was certainly on a mission back then, I feel I should add I wasn't calling you "spammy" or insinuating you were him,
Apologies I had indeed missed that - It's rare references are in that form these days so It's not something I actively remember but duly noted I'll try to remember that, Many thanks, – Davey2010 Talk 18:23, 6 June 2023 (UTC) reply

I don't think that David was trying to "poke" you, or to get a reaction out of you. It looks to me like they were simply expressing their frustration with your edits. I stand by my reply to him - no one asked him to comment and he very clearly wasn't annoyed by my edits so he had no reason to reply there other than to pour petrol on to the fire. (If he was annoyed by me then he would've come here in the first instance).
I would like the ANI thread closed (as my version) and him warned but we both know that won't happen, So I'll wait it out thanks. – Davey2010 Talk 20:41, 7 June 2023 (UTC) reply
  • I can't recall if we're currently on good terms or not, Davey; I know it sometimes changes, but I think we're OK right now? But on the off chance this is useful: If there is some previous history between you and David, then I can see how that might rise to the level of intentional poking, and my view on this would change somewhat. But if not, then you can't just assume it was poking and go to DefCon 1.
There's also the matter of previous history. I know Golbez said "fuck off" to someone else on the same page at roughly the same time, and didn't get blocked. But fair or not, you've got five blocks for "personal attacks or violations of the harassment policy" in a row; I think it would be wisest to assume you've used up your lifetime WP allotment of "fuck off"s. -- Floquenbeam ( talk) 20:44, 7 June 2023 (UTC) reply
  • (Just a bit of context: after Davey agreed at ANI to discontinue those types of edits, he immediately tried to remove that functionality from his instance of AutoEd, going to VPT for assistance, and had just gotten it working [7], only to return to the ANI thread to find DE's comment. And Davey did try to remove his response before the block.
Davey's comment was unfortunate but I do want to commend him for not only taking onboard the ANI feedback but actually following through to make changes to the script. Schazjmd  (talk) 20:59, 7 June 2023 (UTC) reply
Hi @ Floquenbeam, Yeah we're okay I don't think we've butted heads in a very long time thankfully :),
But see this is my point - If I've already said "I'll cease from doing x, y and z" and that "I will mess about with a coding that prevents x, y and z from being done" - What does telling me your frustrations with my edits actually achieve ?, Like how is that helpful to me ?, The damage has already been done and I've already resolved it by messing around with stuff so no such edits can further be made,
I just don't understand why they ever felt the need to comment - I appreciate it's ANI and all but telling me my edits are pointless (no matter how much that may be true) doesn't help anyone even moreso when like I say I stated I would stop and that I resolved it,
There's no history between me and him either, Yeah I was going to mention Golbez but I figured it was probably in my best interest if I didn't, I agree I probably should think of a better phrase but he really did catch me off-guard. I guess I should know by now it's ANI and to ignore the peanut gallery but that's easier said than done, It sucks. – Davey2010 Talk 21:17, 7 June 2023 (UTC) reply

If any admin thinks this block is unjustified, they're welcome to unblock. I'm not going to unblock, however, because of Davey's response above and because they clearly haven't learned from their previous blocks. —  Ingenuity ( talk •  contribs) 12:41, 8 June 2023 (UTC) reply
@ Ingenuity I'll be honest it has been a wake up call and Floqs comment as well as my Commons-indef block have made me realise if I don't stop my EN "career" is too going to end up the same way as Commons - indeffed.
(For context to Commons - I said this, Got blocked for a week, Replied to the admin with this which in turn got me indeffed, Not proud of it and do I regret it ? Absolutely.)
I think @ Floquenbeam mentioned it somewhere but there's going to come a time where I'm not going to have people to fight my corner and one day people will get fed up with me and have me blocked indefinitely - In some ways it's incredible I haven't already been but I am much more aware now that yeah my f offs very much need to be a thing of the past before I end up being a thing of the past.
It's only 24 hours / a day so not the end of the world but I it certainly has been a wake up call that I need to change, Thing is I love editing here but editing here is a privilege not a right and that's something else I've come to realise.
@ David Eppstein I sincerely and unreservedly apologise for saying what I did to you, I still maintain you shouldn't have commented on that thread given I had already resolved it all but still there was no need to tell you that so I apologise for that comment. Thanks, – Davey2010 Talk 13:43, 8 June 2023 (UTC) reply
My comment was neither intentional poking nor was it even "expressing their frustration with your edits". It was a good-faith attempt to explain the reason for the prohibition on cosmetic edits after Davey2010's expressed continued bafflement at why they were prohibited. Perhaps I phrased it in a way that made that purpose unclear. In turn, I was baffled by the hostile response it drew. But I am sorry for accidentally escalating the situation somehow. — David Eppstein ( talk) 16:40, 8 June 2023 (UTC) reply

@ Ingenuity Funny how you were quick enough to block me for telling someone to fuck off yet conveniently allow shit like this to continue, I may aswll have told him to fuck off but the amount of good it's done. I pinged you hoping something would be done but no as always we'll take action against me but fuck everyone elses incivility and rhetoric commentary. Utter joke but hey its fucking ANI the fuck did I expect huh. – Davey2010 Talk 01:08, 13 June 2023 (UTC) reply
Davey - please stop this behaviour before you're blocked again. I closed that thread because I don't want you talking yourself into another block. I'm really not sure what I can say that others haven't already; I think JFD's comment here summarizes it nicely. You said above that your previous block was a "wake up call", but you called another editor "useless" only a short while later. You're a valuable editor, but you need to remember to stay civil, even when you think someone is trying to get a rise out of you. You have been blocked five times for personal attacks now, so your next block will likely be longer. —  Ingenuity ( talk •  contribs) 01:32, 13 June 2023 (UTC) reply
@ Ingenuity, "Please stop rightfully being mad because someone's gaslighting/poking you" - No I wont stop - Maybe you should've done something about it instead of closing the thread indicating the moment I put a foot wrong you'll block me!
How do you expect civility from me or anyone when YOU allow incivility?. That <swear word> desperately wanted a reaction to the point of trolling yesterday yet what do you do ? Close the thread saying "closing before Dave says something" obviously saying the moment I give him what he wants I'm suddenly in the wrong,
I called him useless, I apologised, He forgave, He then proceeds to whinge and moan and as well disrupting the project to make a POINT [8] then once I make it apparent he should be blocked for his disruption I'm met with severe antagonising/poking/gaslighting comments - In what world is that okay?. Yeah life's isn't fair but that's besides the point how is that right?.
Like I said quick enough to block me for telling someone to fuck off yet allowing incivility against me to run rife despite me apologising earlier in the day to them which hilariously enough I was forgiven. It's utterly pathetic. – Davey2010 Talk 12:05, 13 June 2023 (UTC) reply
Davey, I don't know if there's any chance you are going to accept this from me if you didn't accept it from Ingenuity themselves, but I agree that beyond the slightest shadow of a doubt, his close there was in your best interest and very possibly spared you another block or other sanction. It's great that you apologized, really, but the fact remains that the thread was opened because you made another PA just days after coming back from your block for the previous one. You easily could have been blocked by an admin there without warning, and only the decision of respondents there to try another approach spared you that. Once the reconcilliation between you and the other editor collapsed and the discussion started to become a constant stream of highly combative recriminations and counter-accusations, that discussion was just about to return to examining your historical conduct and pattern of PAs/losing your cool very quickly (like, super problematically quickly), and as anyone who has spent any amount of time at ANI can tell you, there an be a very short road between that and a straw poll proposing a sanction.
Ingenuity stepping in at that moment (whether you see it or not) was actually them going out of their way and putting their administrative name on the line to intercede on your behalf (because arguably those issues do need to be addressed by the community). And I note that Ingenuity did not say they were closing the discussion "So Davey doesn't talk themselves into a block" but rather so "someone" doesn't, presumably because while the OP entered that discussion with a reasonable grievance, they too were getting worked up and hyperbolic by that point and were closing the gap between your conduct and theirs, in terms of disruption. But while their conduct might have started to get examined as well, you were going to bear the brunt of the community's diminishing patience under the circumstances, I am fairly confident in saying. I am urging you, in an honest and sincere effort to see the best possible outcome for you here, to take a pause and not look the gift horse of Ingenuity's action in the mouth. Pushing this further cannot possibly end well for you. Try to see how uniform the feedback you have gotten at ANI and in this thread has been. I'm not saying the other editor's conduct was perfect, but by far the main issue is not that you are being treated unjustly, it's that you are seeing slights everywhere, and not handling disagreement well. That has to change, and it has to change fast, or we're going to lose the benefit of your edits for more than a single day. SnowRise let's rap 21:21, 13 June 2023 (UTC) reply
@ Snow Rise I'll be honest as the day's gone on and I've calmed down a lot more - I have wondered whether the close really was to spare me a block, Just didn't feel it or seem like it at the time,
But then why couldn't they have said "closed so both parties don't say something they regret" as opposed to just my name only - Of course I understand I was the subject of that thread but i wasn't the one "trolling"/gaslighting at every second (although totally agree I was getting wound up for sure),
I also disagree with your last paragraph re not handling disagreements well/seeing slights everywhere; I can take all forms of criticism and disagreements on board and I do listen to and heed the advice I'm given - what I can't handle so well is people either popping up at ANI on resolved things and or in the case of that editor removing things without bothering to do the leg work.
@ Ingenuity - If this was your actual intent then i do sincerely apologise - When I pinged you whilst I wanted it to stop I also wanted them actioned (be it a warning or a block) - instead they recieved nothing and at that time it felt like "I could be trolled yet I couldn't say anything back" and truth be told I felt their comments were a lot worse than my useless comment but I guess we'll agree to disagree on that but anyway I also understand irrespective of that I had a long history of being incivil compared to them,
Anyway thank you for your comment SnowRise, Have you have a nice day, Kind Regards, – Davey2010 Talk 22:27, 13 June 2023 (UTC) reply
Thank you very much for receiving my observations in the spirit they were intended--really, not everybody does that when someone offers their input unsolicited here, so it is appreciated. As to whether I hit the nail on the head or not regarding tolerance of dispute, I honestly don't have enough first-hand experience with you as an editor to be absolutely confident of that assessment outside the narrow circumstances related here and at the ANI, so take my perspective with a grain of salt. It may very well be that I am catching you at a less than optimal moment where stressful situations have piled up and they involve particular bugbears of yours--we've all been there. For what it's worth, if I had been in his shoes, I would not have advanced the issue to ANI there; I just don't think it was worth it. But at the same time, as far as our behavioural guidelines are concerned, he was entitled to, so there is that. That said, my perception here is that you tend to run hot and cold on these things: you do seem to let things get under your skin and to become a little blind to outside perspective as a result--but only temporarily. Once you've gotten some distance, you seem perfectly willing to view things in a new light. And personally, I will take that any day in a community member, compared to someone who slowly builds up anger and then holds on to a grudge and/or singular vision of what happened for eternity.
So maybe if you are willing to accept a little extra bit of unsought input, you might consider doing something I have been doing of late. One of my main issues is with verbosity: because of the degree to which my professional life requires me to write, I can sometimes find myself running away with the volume of my posts, in a way that isn't always super helpful to discussion here. I got it under control for a long while, but lately I've been noticing a certain 'wall of text-iness' creeping back into my communications here. Perhaps you've seen it already--nah, certainly not! :D So, silly and contrived as it sounds, sometimes when I compose one of these and I just can't find a way to let go of any of what is in the comments (it all seems valid and useful), I copy it into a text file and leave it over night, and don't post it until I have had time for it to digest in my mind, and I can figure out what is essential and what is not. I know this clearly wouldn't work for every circumstance we are talking about here, and is a bit like putting training wheels on yourself, so forgive me if it sounds patronizing, but, you know, food for thought!
Regardless, I would just urge you to look at these situations in this way: because of the nature of communication on this project, it is very rarely difficult to correct the issue if you failed to say something you feel you should have, but it can be extremely difficult to undo the damage from rushing to say something. And for a certainty, I don't think its worth taking issues off-project to the degree you lose sleep over an article or dispute: though I think if I said I had never done that before, I'd probably be lying to myself! In any event, I am really glad I took the opportunity to reach out, despite the tenseness of the situation. I feel I now have a better understanding of who you are, and my feeling is that you are a pretty good sort. So I really hope the next time I run into you it is in much more pastoral and pleasant circumstances. :) SnowRise let's rap 23:03, 13 June 2023 (UTC) reply
@ Snow Rise, I definitely agree I do let things bother me more than what they should and agree that I perhaps am blind when enraged I totally agree with you there, Unfortunately even in real life I become annoyed too easily if something don't go right so it's not just a Wikipedia thing although saying that I'm certainly a lot more mellow irl than i used to be,
Anyway we live and we learn, I do try not to get so enraged but it's a lot easier said than done, Anyway thank you for your positive comments and for reaching out here I really do appreciate it, Take care and thanks again, Have a great day, Kind Regards, – Davey2010 Talk 23:33, 13 June 2023 (UTC) reply

Anchor tags

Hi, I'm writing about two edits you made at "Wilts & Dorset" last month.

The span tags that you removed were produced by substituting Template:Anchor, and were there (in that article's case) to keep section links alive after the section names were changed. There is no need to restore the tags now as no such section liks exist (the only one that existed I changed earlier), but I wished to let you know that there are tags like that.

I will be grateful if you would think of that possiblity in the future, and if possible, contribute to raising awareness of such tags among CW project members. Thank you. YTRK ( talk) 10:22, 1 July 2023 (UTC) reply

Hello, Davey2010,

I didn't mean for my relisting comment to be discouraging. This article could well deserve to be deleted. But it is so popular, with readers as well as vandals and sockpuppets, that if/when it is deleted, I expect it to be recreated again fairly soon. There is a stronger case for future CSD G4 deletion taggings if there was substantial support for an article's deletion and that just wasn't present yet in this AFD discussion. Sometimes it takes one or two relistings to bring an AFD discussion to the attention of a larger group of editors. But my relisting shouldn't be taken as a sign that I thought the article should be Kept or that you didn't make a good case. I usually relist when there is a deadlock of strong opinions (50/50) or when the participation in the AFD is low which can mean that the decision is later contested.

Perhaps this article warrants a 2nd AFD in the near future, that certainly has happened before. Thanks for your participation at AFD. Liz Read! Talk! 22:29, 4 July 2023 (UTC) reply

There is already an ongoing discussion at the talkpage. Go there instead of constantly reverting the main image. There is absolutely no need for the main pic to be of the most current generation, it's just a habit of some of our younger editors to add the newest generation of everything. WP:CARPIX has been the policy for ages.  Mr.choppers |  ✎  16:50, 31 July 2023 (UTC) reply

Sorry but "it's just a habit of some of our younger editors" is rubbish - It's been a thing for the past 10 years if not more and I thought this was the norm for all articles (in fact I still am convinced), All that being said I've replaced it with the logo which has been long standing for decades, I'll comment on the talkpage. – Davey2010 Talk 16:55, 31 July 2023 (UTC) reply
No, that's an assumption that pops up frequently but I have no idea why people assume it. The countless ips who spend all of their time shuffling photos around certainly agree with you, and arguing with them is so tiresome that I usually just let their choices stand, which is why you see it in so many places. Fanbois usually prefer the latest and greatest, too, and thus the situation is what it is. The wording regarding this has been there for over fifteen years and was the result of long discussions.  Mr.choppers |  ✎  14:13, 1 August 2023 (UTC) reply
How have I been here for 10 years and yet never knew this until now?, When you see hundreds of car articles all having the latest image in the lead ib especially for 10+ years you would obviously assume that's the norm - genuinely shocked and surprised it isn't!,
That being said buses certainly don't follow this way ( Plaxton Beaver and Northern Counties Palatine) but I guess the IPs aren't bothered about buses as much as they are with cars, Truly am shocked and surprised that that way has never been the official way though, – Davey2010 Talk 16:41, 1 August 2023 (UTC) reply

I had added a film called Inheritance to Inheritance (disambiguation)

You removed it, citing non-notability. Many other "Inheritance" entries remain that appear to me of equivalent notability. Is there a guideline for notability for disambiguation pages I can reference for my future edits?

It's sad how many articles have been deleted due to this human believing in Existence ≠ Notability. I'm sure your existence is notable to your parents but everyone else on the internet doesn't give two craps. Should we delete you for not being notable to the masses? You and the rest of the moderation team are hacks for removing all of those pages of unused/abandoned highways. 1) I'm an inclusionist and always look for ways at keeping articles so much so that I have in the past saved articles from the chopping block (as proven at User:Davey2010#Articles_rescued)
2) If it were down to me I would keep every article we had here .... but unfortunately I don't write the rules - I just follow them as we all do!
3) I mean lets be real here why on earth would I ever need or want an article on myself ? I'm a boring guy who likes boring things ..... and if it were an option then I still wouldn't have one
4) If you're unhappy with WP:Notability and how things are run then by all means Contact the WMF or failing that use another encyclopedia ..., I'm sure the WMF are bitterly disappointed that you've stopped giving them £2 a month!
Have a fantastic day 69.xxx, – Davey2010 Talk 12:56, 12 September 2023 (UTC) reply
Hello Davey,
Thank you for this well-written response to my red-hot rant. I must apologize for speaking so harshly to you about something so mundane that was not a fault of your own. There is no excuse, but I was just upset to come across an interesting old/removed article that I had stumbled upon in a link on an online message board. I too wish that we could archive every single article & topic out there, but I understand there are limitations to what should actually be kept online due to storage & monetary limitations. Again, my apologies for this rant. You did not deserve to have my unfounded anger thrown in your direction, but I appreciate your level-headed take. You seem like a great person, which is something we need more of in this world. 69.172.133.118 ( talk) 13:13, 14 September 2023 (UTC) reply
Hi 69.172.133.118, Hope you're well, No worries and I to apologise for my reply which digressed into grumpyness and condescension,
As far as I'm aware it doesn't take a great amount of memory or storage for articles (long ones do) - it just all more or less factors on notability and notability only,
I've come across linked stuff before to find they'd been deleted so I understand your anger here, It does suck but unfortunately that's Wikipedia,
Thank you for your apology and kind words it does mean a lot thank you, You seem like a great person too,
Could i ask what was the article that got deleted ?,
Anyway thanks again for your apology/kind words and I again apologise for my ratty reply
Have a pleasant day/evening, Warm Regards – Davey2010 Talk 15:16, 14 September 2023 (UTC) reply

Battle of Castellón revert

Hey, would you kindly telt me why you reverted my Battle of Castellón edit? ... GELongstreet ( talk) 17:02, 23 September 2023 (UTC) reply

Hi @ GELongstreet, I'll be honest I originally thought your edits hid the information above your <br> additions but I now see they actually didn't so apologies for this,
That being said could I ask what the purpose of your edit was as with or without the <br> they're on new lines respectively anyway?, Thanks – Davey2010 Talk 18:01, 23 September 2023 (UTC) reply
Just spotted the "display fix" edit summary however the infobox and everything inside displays normally with or without the br tags?, Thanks – Davey2010 Talk 18:06, 23 September 2023 (UTC) reply
For some reason the fields in the military conflict infoboxes don't display a border between their two columns if only the first side has content (works fine if only the seond side has some though). This can let the information easily appear very unclear. Entering this invisible code, which doesn't do anything since it is the only content, fixes that problem. I'll accordingly readd it. ... GELongstreet ( talk) 18:33, 23 September 2023 (UTC) reply
Hi @ GELongstreet, Ohhhh okay i hadn't spotted that, Thanks for explaining this I'll try and remember this in future, Thanks for reinstating your edit, Thanks, – Davey2010 Talk 18:58, 23 September 2023 (UTC) reply

Umalakotid source removal

Hey Davey, I appreciate you fixing some of my mistakes as a new Wikipedia editor. Can I ask, why did you remove the source I added to Umalakotid? I looked at MOS:DABNOLINK and it didn't seem to apply to that article/source. Is there a rule not to add sources to (relatively) trivial geographical data like that? Thanks. Spacemarine22 ( talk) 15:29, 24 September 2023 (UTC) reply

Hi @ Spacemarine22, Thank you so much for making me aware of this, Not sure how or why but I thought this was a disambiguation page hence the cite removal, Obviously it's not so I've undone my edit and have added a reflist to the article,
Again thanks so much for spotting this rather weird edit, Thanks, – Davey2010 Talk 17:50, 24 September 2023 (UTC) reply

I am probably wasting my time, but again can you please stop adding images that are in contravention of polict, namely. delete image causing sandwiching. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Buses/Archive 2#Images for more detail. Your response there of So then expand the articles? did not address the issue. Wikipedia is using the Georgia font on talk pages and I want to revert to Arial

Hi Davey2010, I asked you back in 2020 about how to "go retro" by using the Arial font on Wikipedia that was there before 2014 or so. Now on talk pages and Wikipedia namespace pages the Georgia font is back. Is there any code I can add or whatever (anything I can do) to revert to Arial? Thanks from Nearly but not perfect ( talk) 18:04, 15 December 2023 (UTC) reply

Invitation

Hello Davey2010, we need experienced volunteers.
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, it basically boils down to checking CSD, notability, and title). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions. You can apply for the user-right HERE.
  • If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message at the reviewer's discussion board.
  • Cheers, and hope to see you around.
