Tennis reverts

Edits like this one are introducing mismatched tag errors. Please adjust your scripts. It might help to install the LintHint script so that you can check for Linter errors before you save. – Jonesey95 ( talk) 18:27, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

The edits you're referring to simply reproduce the bolding that was there before, while changing HTML <br> tags to use {{ ubl}} instead. There is no visible difference and there are no error messages. There is no justification for your reverts. Colonies Chris ( talk) 18:38, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
The edit linked above resulted in this invalid code: {{unbulleted list|{{flagicon|GRE|size=22px}} '''[[Eleni Daniilidou|E Daniilidou]]|{{flagicon|GER|size=22px}} [[Jasmin Wöhr|J Wöhr]]'''}}. The bolding starts in one item and finishes in the next item, which is not valid; each item needs to be bolded independently. This is why I recommend installing the LintHint script, which will let you know if your output has errors before you save. Happy editing! – Jonesey95 ( talk) 19:35, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
I'll repeat. The bolding was that way in the original article text. My changes didn't introduce a problem - there is no visible problem, the formatting appears exactly as it did and as it should. Quibbling over the presence of an obscure error message that no reader sees is not a justification for wholesale reversion. Colonies Chris ( talk) 22:24, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
I agree with you that you didn't move any bold tags that were in the original text; it is valid for bold tags to wrap two in-line items separated by a <br> tag. Hence, there was no error in the original text. When you replaced that br tag with a pipe inside of {{ ul}}, you introduced tag misnesting. Each item in a {{ ul}} needs to have its own bolding. It is not valid to start bolding in one item and finish it in another item. It's not a quibble; you introduced Linter errors to a group of articles, and there is no guarantee that the rendering software will continue to render this invalid syntax in a way that you intend. This tag misnesting error type has been completely eliminated from article space by a group of hard-working gnomes who are now working on other errors so that the renderer can someday have various workarounds and kludges removed. I encourage you to fix your script or regex. – Jonesey95 ( talk) 01:31, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
Nonetheless, this does not justify you reverting all my changes. If you are unhappy with an error of which you are aware but no reader can see, then by all means fix it yourself, but don't revert all my changes. i will reinstate them. Colonies Chris ( talk) 09:11, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
It is absolutely not my job to go around cleaning up the messes that you make. I reverted one or two of your edits before these, with explanations in the edit summary. That should have been enough for you to be more careful in the future. It appears that another editor was generous enough to fix your errors this time. Again, please fix your script using the information above and in the edits that fixed your errors. – Jonesey95 ( talk) 14:01, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:F5 tornadoes by date indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. plicit 14:50, 17 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Colonies Chris,
I was going to ask you why you were emptying this category and then noticed that you had created it! Ordinarily, I'd suggest taking it to WP:CFD and proposing deletion but if you want to have it deleted, you can just tag it for speedy deletion, CSD G7, since you created the page and no other editors have contributed to it. Did you just not find it a useful way to categorize tornadoes? Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 21:18, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Tornado categories have been a mess for a long time, and to some extent still are. The original plan was to have two subcategories - by date and by location. But it turned out that categorising by location was impractical, so that just left the one subcategory, which is pointless. So I've emptied it - everything from it is now in cat 'F5 tornadoes' and ordered by date. Colonies Chris ( talk) 22:52, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
